One of the less visible aspects of my work in Parliament is serving on the Health and Social Care Select Committee, says Farnham and Bordon MP Greg Stafford. It’s a cross-party group where MPs from all sides come together to hold ministers and health bodies to account. Each week, we take evidence from frontline staff, senior officials and patients – digging into issues that touch all our lives. One week it might be cancer waiting times, the next pharmacy access, children’s mental health, or social care reform. Whatever the subject, someone in our community – in Farnham, Bordon, Haslemere, Liphook or nearby – is likely living that experience and deserves a voice.

00:00So I'm on the Health and Social Care Select Committee here in Parliament and every week we meet in a room like this one where we speak to ministers, to charitable organisations, to the health structure across the country and we make sure that we are raising the issues that matter across the country to people who have health and social care interests and needs.
00:24But I always try to make sure that whatever I do here in Parliament, and especially in the Health and Social Care Committee, is linked to what's going on in Farnham and Borden, Lippock, Hazelmere and our surrounding villages.
00:36So, for example, talking to ministers about social care and how the impact that things are having locally, such as when I talk to Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice, raising their concerns and issues.
00:48But I also raise things about mental health because it's such a big and growing issue across our constituency.
00:54And I'm actually going to be on the Mental Health Bill Committee starting next week, making sure that we can pick up the key issues that matter to local people.
01:03And as I think many of you know, one of the big challenges we have across our constituency is that we don't have one single NHS provider.
01:12We have three integrated care boards, which makes it really challenging to get joined up, good local health services here in our constituency.
01:21And that's why, actually, this week, some of you may have seen that I raised the issues around health and the lack of provision in our constituency.
01:29And my commitment to you is, whenever I raise something, whether it be on the floor of the House of Commons, whether it be here in a committee room or in meetings with ministers,
01:38I will always make sure that the issues that matter to the people of Farnham Borden, Hizmir Lit Book and our surrounding villages are the ones that are put first.
