Join Gary for Update 16 as he shares the joy of his first night back home in his own bed after his radical prostatectomy at Gold Coast University Hospital. Despite the amazing care from the hospital staff, Gary is thrilled to have gotten his first good night’s sleep since the operation. His surgeon is delighted with the surgery’s success, and Gary is now recovering with a catheter for two weeks until it’s removed.
A catheter is required post-prostatectomy to allow the bladder and urethra to heal properly, ensuring proper drainage and reducing complications. Gary’s optimism shines through as he continues his recovery journey with gratitude for the support of his loved ones and medical team.

00:00Hi everyone. I just wanted to give you an update on my cancer treatment. I'm back home. I've spent
00:09my first night last night in my own bed, which is absolutely a fantastic feeling. Don't get me
00:17wrong, the Gold Coast University Hospital staff and everything just did an amazing job, looked
00:24after me fantastic, but we all know it's good to get back home and get a good night's sleep in your
00:30own bed, which I did. I had the best night's sleep since the operation. I was only in hospital. I went
00:40in on Wednesday, had the operation on Wednesday, and I came out around lunchtime on Friday, so I was in
00:48shorter than I thought. After speaking to the surgeon, she said that everything went fantastic
00:55and the operation went all good, so I was pretty happy about that, to get that from her.
01:04And now I'm just in recovery. I've just got to take it easy, not allowed to do too much for the next
01:11six weeks really. So I can't drive for a couple of weeks and can't lift anything. Obviously doing
01:18too strenuous, but I'm feeling pretty good. Go back in about two weeks time, get the catheter out and
01:28then go from there. So yes, I just thought I'd let you know that everything went really well. And yes,
01:35I'm in recovery now and we'll see how it goes from here. So thanks for following the journey.
