00:00Dean of the Faculty of Food and Agriculture at the University of the West Indies, Professor Mark Woodovero, said his faculty will continue to further their research, educate persons, and boost food resilience in the region through capacity building.
00:15All we do is about building that resilience. It's about building that capacity. Because you cannot achieve resilience if you don't have the human capacity that will drive it forward. And that is why, as a university, we are dedicated to that.
00:35And with respect to food safety, that is something that we have taken as very important. We have our MSC in agri-food safety and quality assurance. Because we know that if it is not safe, it is not food.
00:50According to Minister of Agriculture Ravi Rattaram, the safety of citizens is the government's number one priority. The minister also welcomed Trinidad and Tobago's hosting of the second meeting, but first in-person meeting of the regional task force taking place in TNT, noting the importance of the collective work being done.
01:10We are so happy for the conversation, because at the end of the day, you know, when we look at our food import bill, we have a huge food import bill of over $7 billion. And we cannot be having, you know, food being brought in, food being on the table.
01:28And you don't know what are the phytosanitary conditions. You don't know what are the different parts of the region that these food bring with it. And the risks associated and involved. At the end of the day, we have a huge responsibility to ensure safety of the consumer.
01:48Minister Rattaram said this project is huge, and it requires all hands on deck to ensure the safety of consumers by avoiding any negative incidents or impacts.
