Transcript
00:00We're here at Ludlow Assembly Rooms and we're with Jess Laurie. Hello, Jess.
00:03Hello.
00:03So what's your role here, Jess?
00:05I'm the Programming and Marketing Manager.
00:08And you're holding a little flyer there for an event that's coming up.
00:12Just fill us in on what it is and what it's all about.
00:16So from the 11th to the 13th of July, we've got an event called the Rural Remix,
00:21which we're participating in with three other independent cinemas around Shropshire.
00:24So it's us, Ludlow Assembly Rooms, the Wemtown Hall, the Wellington Orbit and the Old Market Hall in Shrewsbury.
00:31And we've all come together, shared resources, to put on an event that really celebrates rural cinema.
00:38We're redefining rural cinema.
00:40Cool. So what sort of films are going to be shown then?
00:43So we've all been looking at films that reflect that kind of brief.
00:46So how we view a rural location or rural landscapes or life in rural areas.
00:52So we're showing this, a new kind of wilderness, the, I think, 1969 Ken Loach film, Kess.
01:00Oh, yeah.
01:01We've got six inches of soil, which is being shown in collaboration with the Green Festival.
01:07And the Shropshire Young Curators have chosen Withnail and I.
01:11Cool, great stuff. Good dialogue. Known for its dialogue, isn't it, that film?
01:14Yeah.
01:15You know, can you believe it? I'm 14, 6, 7. I've never seen Kess. I've never seen it.
01:21Actually, nor have I. I'll tell you, I've never seen Withnail and I either.
01:24Withnail and I is great. I can vouch for that.
01:26But Kess is an absolute classic, isn't it?
01:28And I can't believe I've got to this age and not seen it.
01:30So to see it on the big screen would be pretty awesome.
01:34You have some amazing stuff going on here, don't you, at the assembly rooms.
01:37It's just a bit of everything, isn't it? Theatre, spoken word.
01:40Yeah, we really do try to make sure that we have something that will appeal to everybody.
01:46We've really tried to broaden our programme to include everyone.
01:51Yeah, like you say, live music, we've got a lot of folk music.
01:54Yeah.
01:54Trying to sort of widen our family programming.
01:57Interesting film.
01:59And yeah, live theatre too.
02:01Great stuff. So just chuck out those dates again. When's it happening?
02:04So the Rural Remix is from the 11th to the 13th of July this year and we'll be showing four films as a part of it.
