00:00BNP Paribas, partenaire des plus belles histoires de Roland Garros, aux côtés des ramasseurs de balles depuis plus de 50 ans.
00:30Au revoir.
03:16want you to win and want you to fail
03:18how do you cope with that as an athlete
03:20yeah I think there's
03:22two ways I've done it in the past
03:24either A just pretend they're cheering for you
03:27and B just
03:28using it and not letting
03:30that get to you
03:31I've been in crowds where they're
03:3499% for me so
03:36I don't have an issue with it
03:38and I hope everyone will be
03:40respectful and if not it's
03:42cool I think
03:43it makes sports exciting and I can't get
03:46irritated the fact that
03:48someone's rooting for their hometown
03:50hero because I would do the same
03:52so yeah I think it's just something
03:54that I will mentally prepare for if it were
03:56to happen and expect and be ready
03:58for
03:58well done you mentioned
04:02on the court that you just
04:04went up in tension
04:05was there anything did that solve
04:08everything or it could
04:10seem like there was more rockiness
04:12throughout and it was just like that
04:14kind of match where everybody was kind of up and
04:16down were there other things that you did
04:18was there a sort of plan B that you
04:20went to or anything else that you do
04:22in those situations where you're not
04:24feeling feeling your
04:26game or the ball like you would like to
04:28yeah I mean I wasn't feeling the ball
04:30obviously to start to match
04:32so I changed like tension
04:34just to see if it helped and
04:35maybe it did and maybe it didn't I mean I
04:38did go from 4-1 to 5-4 so I
04:40like to think that it helped a little bit sometimes
04:42the stuff could just be mental
04:44maybe you're thinking oh I changed my racket I'm going to play
04:46better and you start doing it I don't know
04:48but I was just trying
04:50to be aggressive and I had chances
04:52in the tiebreaker I don't like the way I played
04:54that tiebreaker I think you know although it was
04:56close I think I played two passives so
04:58you know usually
05:00if you're playing two passives in the
05:02end the more aggressive player is going to win
05:04so I knew in the
05:06second and the third that I had to
05:08try my best to be aggressive
05:10against Maddie is tough aggressive
05:12against Maddie looks different and aggressive
05:14against somebody else so
05:16yeah
05:17Coco did you watch
05:20Carlos Alcara's documentary on Netflix?
05:22No I haven't watched
05:24the documentary
05:27no
05:27but for sure you heard about his
05:29like philosophy that he likes to
05:31spend time with friends and parties
05:33in order to achieve his
05:35things
05:36how about you?
05:37do you feel like you also need
05:39that kind of normal life
05:41to achieve your goals?
05:43yeah definitely
05:44it's something that I'm trying to do
05:45more just because I feel like so much
05:47of my life I was so locked in
05:48and obviously it's great to be locked in
05:50but
05:51it was a little bit easier in juniors
05:53just because we would play a tournament
05:54and then you're home for three weeks
05:55and you go play another tournament
05:56home for another three weeks
05:58so
05:58obviously on tour it's
06:00quite the opposite
06:01so yeah it's something I do
06:03try to
06:04model
06:05him
06:06off of I've told him
06:08that I've tried to
06:09like have fun on the court
06:10like him
06:11and smile as much as he does
06:12and
06:12that is something that
06:14he inspires me
06:15to do that more
06:16and
06:16just enjoy the life
06:18in general
06:18I find you play better
06:19so yeah for sure
06:20I think he has
06:21a great philosophy
06:22and it's something that I am
06:23trying to model
06:24I don't think I'll be
06:25out there smiling
06:26as much as Carlos does
06:27sometimes when he loses
06:28wins a match
06:29but
06:29every now and then
06:31to try to crack some
06:31and I'm usually a more serious person
06:33on the court
06:34but I try to remember
06:35that it's just a game
06:36and try to treat it like that
06:38hey Coco
06:40hi
06:40when I was in Madrid
06:42you told us that your
06:43your strength in this tournament
06:45was your service
06:46yeah
06:46and right now
06:47you seem to be
06:49struggling a little bit
06:50with it
06:50can you explain it
06:52yeah I think in the
06:53first set
06:54I think
06:54well in that tiebreaker
06:56honestly was just a little bit
06:57of nerves
06:57and knowing that
06:58I had to try to hit a good serve
07:00because she was crushing
07:01my second serve return
07:02and then after that
07:03I felt that I served
07:04a lot better
07:05in the second
07:07and third set
07:08obviously
07:09so I was just trying
07:10to go for it more
07:11and honestly
07:12just try to kick it
07:13as much as possible
07:14and try to get it
07:15out the court
07:16because she was running around
07:18and crushing
07:18forehand returns
07:20so yeah
07:20it's something that I
07:21will always have to work on
07:23but
07:23I'm glad I didn't let
07:25what happened in tiebreaker
07:26and you know
07:27earlier in the match
07:28affect the next two sets
07:29congrats
07:31in sports
07:34you obviously
07:34have to have
07:35great skill sets
07:36but
07:37fighting spirit
07:39is
07:39a key
07:40does your fighting spirit
07:43give you the most
07:44satisfaction
07:44in your game
07:45and secondly
07:46you're
07:48a great sports fan
07:49who
07:49what athletes
07:50what players
07:52and other sports
07:53have inspired you
07:54in terms of that
07:55and
07:56what players
07:57specifically
07:58yeah
07:59with the fighting spirit
08:00I think it's something
08:00that
08:01you know
08:01I've
08:02you know
08:02I've had naturally
08:03but trying to be more
08:04positive is something
08:05I had to work on
08:06and
08:06yeah
08:07I'm really happy
08:08with how
08:08I'm able to
08:10reset
08:10and be positive
08:11and try my best
08:12to give
08:13you know
08:13the best mentality
08:14to show up
08:16and
08:16people from other sports
08:18that I've looked up to
08:19Sidney McLaughlin
08:21is someone that I
08:21really like
08:22and
08:23look up to
08:24in that way
08:25Simone Bows
08:27I think
08:27she just pushes herself
08:29and
08:29to me
08:30that's
08:30you know
08:31crazy
08:31because
08:31you know
08:32in tennis
08:32we had
08:33Rafa and
08:33Roger and Novak
08:34all pushing each other
08:35but in gymnastics
08:36she kind of
08:36doesn't really have anyone
08:37so
08:38the fact she's able
08:38to move that needle
08:39against herself
08:40I think is
08:40pretty cool
08:41and then
08:42you have
08:42the obvious
08:43like LeBron
08:43and Michael
08:45with those
08:45and Kobe
08:46with that
08:46Mamba mentality
08:47I think
08:47those are people
08:48I look up to
08:49outside of tennis
08:50but in tennis
08:50you know
08:51the usual
08:51Serena
08:52Rafa
08:52Novak
08:53Roger
08:53the best of the best
08:55is people
08:56I look up to
08:56since you just
09:02talked about
09:02that you
09:03changed the racket
09:04to adjust
09:05the condition
09:05I was wondering
09:06how normally
09:07how many
09:08rackets
09:09do you bring
09:09on the court
09:10and how many
09:11variety
09:12of like
09:13tension
09:13of strings
09:14do you prepare
09:15if you don't
09:15forget to bring
09:16it on the court
09:17yeah
09:18if I don't forget
09:19when I forget
09:21zero
09:21when I remember
09:22six
09:23and went
09:240 for six
09:25but usually
09:26I have like
09:26four of the
09:27tension
09:27that I
09:28most think
09:29I'm going to
09:29probably use
09:30the whole match
09:30just because
09:31of the ball
09:32changes and things
09:32and then I have
09:33two either
09:33tighter or lower
09:34and today
09:36they were tighter
09:37because I
09:38didn't
09:38the racket
09:39I started
09:39with for sure
09:40I knew
09:40I wasn't
09:40going to
09:41want to go
09:41any lower
09:41than that
09:42so yeah
09:43I just went
09:43tighter
09:44I thought
09:44you know
09:44colder day
09:45start the match
09:46off with a
09:46little bit
09:47of coolness
09:47I've practiced
09:48with the
09:48looser racket
09:48on the
09:49colder days
09:49but I
09:50don't know
09:51and also
09:52I don't know
09:52if it was
09:53a tension
09:53thing
09:53it's really
09:54two pounds
09:54so yeah
09:55it matters
09:55but it's
09:56also just
09:57two pounds
09:57so it
09:58probably
09:58didn't matter
09:58that much
09:59just on
10:01the sort
10:02of roller
10:02coaster
10:03nature
10:03of the
10:03match
10:04in this
10:04both in
10:05the second
10:06set
10:06and the
10:06third set
10:07you were
10:07like
10:07double break
10:084-1
10:09yes
10:09how do you
10:11what are you
10:12telling yourself
10:12in the third
10:13set when
10:14you're in
10:14that same
10:15position
10:15to avoid
10:16what happened
10:17in the
10:18second set
10:18yeah
10:19honestly
10:19I felt
10:20like it was
10:20an important
10:21game
10:21just because
10:21she was
10:21up double
10:22break
10:224-1
10:23and I
10:23came back
10:24and then
10:24that happened
10:25in the second
10:25so I was
10:26like this is
10:27you know
10:27usually in a
10:28match when you're
10:28up double
10:29break
10:294-1
10:29obviously
10:29you want
10:30to win
10:30that game
10:30but you know
10:31you're a little
10:31bit more
10:31relaxed
10:32but I was
10:32just like
10:33I gotta
10:33be more
10:33aggressive
10:34and put
10:35the ball
10:35on the
10:35court
10:35the 4-1
10:36game
10:36in the second
10:36I think
10:37I missed
10:37like four
10:38balls
10:39in the net
10:393-4 ends
10:40and a back
10:40end
10:40and a net
10:41so I was
10:42just telling
10:42myself
10:43like make
10:43her earn
10:44those points
10:45make her
10:45hit winners
10:45on those
10:46points
10:46don't give
10:47her so many
10:47errors
10:48so yeah
10:49and then
10:49I was happy
10:50to you know
10:51get through
10:51that game
10:52and you know
10:53after that
10:53I felt
10:54pretty
10:54comfortable
10:55you
10:57you
10:57you
10:58you
