00:00Last time...
00:06Nova Twins!
00:07Stop it!
00:09The MUAs delivered looks for alternative rock band Nova Twins.
00:13The one thing that doesn't quite sit in right is the brows.
00:16But Sharice and Jake missed the mark.
00:18We're just looking for more subtlety here.
00:21At Glow Up Studios, it was a different story.
00:24I've got to give you a ding-dong and I don't know why I'm crying!
00:27As both beat the seat.
00:30You did an excellent job.
00:32But what I'd love to see is something that's not a monster.
00:37Before Jamie sent Josh home in the face-off.
00:39Next week, I'm definitely going to bring something big, bold,
00:42and the judges are going to love it.
00:45With just five MUAs fighting for their place in the competition,
00:49the stage is set for one of their toughest industry assignments yet.
00:54Can't believe it's 86.
00:55I just can't believe, like, how empty it feels now.
00:59There is literally only five people left.
01:02That's, like, actually half now.
01:04Yeah.
01:04That's really scary.
01:05And we've got two more weeks until the final, which is even crazier.
01:10I feel like this is a top five where everyone is, like, actually different.
01:15I'm definitely riding high from the little win and coming back from the face-up.
01:19But I do feel like I really need to bring it up.
01:23The MUAs assignment this week has brought them to London's West End.
01:27Hi, guys!
01:28Hi!
01:29So do you know where we are today?
01:31Yes!
01:31Cabaret!
01:32Let's go inside and find out what you're going to be doing!
01:36Yes!
01:40For almost 60 years, Risqué Musical Cabaret has been a favourite for theatre-goers,
01:46attracting big-name talent and bagging multiple awards.
01:49The latest version at London's Playhouse Theatre is no exception.
01:55Having won seven Olivier's, its current leads are global superstars Billy Porter and Marisha Wallace.
02:02I absolutely love Billy Porter.
02:05I feel like I could just jump up and down in excitement.
02:08My God!
02:09Oh, this is so beautiful!
02:11I've been praying for an interesting assignment that's theatre-related for ages.
02:14I actually haven't done theatre since.
02:16I was back in college maybe, like, six, seven years ago.
02:18Mate, this is sick!
02:21Yeah, super excited to be at Cabaret.
02:23What a sick opportunity.
02:27MUAs, welcome to the Kit Kat Club.
02:30Let me introduce you to your guest judge for today,
02:32the super-talented makeup designer behind the West End and Broadway revivals of Cabaret,
02:37the amazing Guy Common.
02:41Hi, MUAs, or should I say, Vil Common?
02:44Make-Up Powerhouse Guy is known for his theatrical looks.
02:51He's showcased his artistry in films such as Cruella,
02:54collaborated with Paloma Faith and Grace Jones,
02:57and designed the makeup for award-winning productions in the West End and on Broadway.
03:01So, Cabaret is set in pre-World War II Germany,
03:06during a time of rising fascism.
03:08The carefree world of the Kit Kat Club is an escape from the grim realities of what was going on outside.
03:14As our host, the MC, says,
03:16in here, life is beautiful.
03:18And I want you to make up five of our Kit Kat girls.
03:21Oh, my God.
03:23Yay, darling!
03:25Yay!
03:27Cabaret takes place at an underground venue in 1930s Berlin,
03:32the Kit Kat Club.
03:34Central to the story are the club's dancers.
03:37These larger-than-life performers each have unique characters with makeup looks to match.
03:42Welcome to the Kit Kat Club!
03:46I've designed them to look like they're at the end of a long night out.
03:51It's all very disheveled glamour.
03:53I want you to choose who you're going to do today, right now.
03:57Oh, God.
03:59So, ready?
04:00First up, we have Frenchie.
04:02Oh, very cute.
04:03Who is confident with line work?
04:04I will give that to myself, yeah.
04:06That looks like a good fit.
04:07Next up, we have Lulu.
04:09Who wants to have a go at Lulu's pinched Cupid's bow lip?
04:12You, your greater lips.
04:14Oh, take her.
04:15Thank you very much.
04:18Jamie chooses 90s club look Helga.
04:22Yes.
04:23And Mia takes on neon beauty Rosie.
04:27So then, that leaves you with Texas.
04:31Oh!
04:32I like this.
04:32Let me see it.
04:33So, is everyone happy?
04:34Yes!
04:35So, remember, guys, your makeup has to look good on the front row,
04:41but it's also got to look amazing right up there in the gods.
04:46So, you've got to bring it.
04:49Ooh.
04:50This is so exciting.
04:51By 7.30pm tonight, this theatre will be full of paying customers.
04:56So, if I'm not happy with any of the looks today,
04:58I will have to step in and let you know.
05:00That being said, the makeup artist who does the best today
05:03will be invited back to attend our gala performance as a VIP guest.
05:07Oh, my God.
05:08Starring our lead actors, Billy Porter and Marisha Wallace.
05:12Oh, my God.
05:12Stop it!
05:13Oh, my God.
05:14I just want to start.
05:21I feel like this is definitely in my skill set,
05:23and, yeah, I would love to win this.
05:28Okay, MUAs, you've each got a place,
05:30so if you look for your Kit Kat's name.
05:32As soon as they get in your chair, then this is your time to start.
05:35I need them in two hours for costumes, so it's go, go, go.
05:38Each MUA is working with a performer from the show
05:41who know the looks better than anyone.
05:44Hi.
05:45Do you think it's here?
05:45Yeah, sure.
05:46To make sure I win to them,
05:48I'm literally copying and pasting up makeup on Rosie's face.
05:53I'm so excited to do this.
05:55It's looking so cute.
05:57As soon as I saw that it was cabaret, I was like, yes.
06:00As industry assignments go, this is a big one.
06:04We're talking cabaret.
06:06The West End.
06:08It's in a genre all of its own.
06:12It's got to be big, bold, and tell a story.
06:16I mean, this is major.
06:19Such an amazing choice to be part of.
06:21Like, the stage as well is insane.
06:24It's such a special joke.
06:25The golden rule when it comes to theatre makeup is remembering that you've got a front row,
06:30but you've got a back row.
06:31So you need to make it bold enough to be able to be seen at the back,
06:35but it has to be polished for those people at the front.
06:37This is Gorge.
06:38Love, love, love.
06:41I've done theatre makeup before, but only for just like a little show.
06:45It wasn't like anything too big.
06:49A performer as a child, Mia is no stranger to stage makeup.
06:53It really reminds me of, like, the dance maker I used to do when I was younger.
06:57So I'm kind of excited.
06:59The makeup reflects the individual characters themselves, and this is something that I work
07:04on with the costume designer and the hairstylist.
07:07For example, Rosie is very flirty, so we did her palette in pinks and oranges to kind of
07:13give that flushed look to her skin.
07:16So I have Rosie.
07:17She's cutesy, flamboyant, flirty, but feisty.
07:21A neon shock of acid, a bit of punk girl in pink.
07:24So Frenchie, she is a strong-willed, feisty, in control and alluring.
07:29Watch out for her magnetic allure with this old Hollywood look with pencil-thin eyebrows
07:33and a moustache to match.
07:34Love that.
07:35Are you nervous about the moustache?
07:37No.
07:37You know I'm a line-work girly, though.
07:39That's what I love.
07:40That's what I live, love, love.
07:41You have really good brows, by the way.
07:44Thanks.
07:47All of the looks require a blocked brow, which means making the brows invisible, blending
07:52seamlessly with the skin.
07:54I love gluing an eyebrow down.
07:56It's my favourite thing.
07:58Getting that flat, laminated, natural brow first before you start anything else is essential.
08:04I do not want to see any cornflake, crunchy eyebrows.
08:07Oh, my brow covers are getting so good.
08:09If you saw the journey from when I first got here, it was looking like porridge.
08:15So, Jamie, Kit Kat club, cabaret.
08:19I am so happy to be here.
08:21I love theatre make-up.
08:23It's big, bold, dramatic.
08:25How are we feeling about, you know, coming out of the face-off on top and now we're here?
08:30I have literally not got a nervous bone in my body.
08:32I don't think you have any, to be honest with you.
08:34No.
08:34What's your character's name?
08:36I've got Helga.
08:38The clown, full throttle, a little unhinged.
08:41It's literally me.
08:42I feel like definitely the eyes are going to be, like, the main sort of focus.
08:46Like, make sure they're really pigmented.
08:48Make sure that they can be seen from a mile away.
08:51Well, I'm very excited to see Helga come to life.
08:55I'll see you later, my confidence queen.
08:57See you later.
08:58Bye.
08:58So, I have a Texas in my chair, hooting, hollering, Yankee Doodle, full of beans.
09:05And I feel like they've got a very, like, sort of glam, but also grungy sort of look, which
09:09is really cool.
09:10And I just want to ensure that I get all the main features down, like the beauty mark and
09:15the gap tooth.
09:18Are you excited to be here?
09:20Yeah, I am, honestly, because I'm very proud of myself, because I thought I was, like,
09:24giving first out, so.
09:25No.
09:25I feel like the reason why you feel that way is literally your own self-doubt, because
09:30actually you've been impressing, like, every single week.
09:33Yeah.
09:33So, I need to get out of this negative mindset.
09:36Flip it on its head, mate.
09:37For sure, yeah.
09:40So, just doing foundation at the moment, and then just blending it out with a beauty blender.
09:47My character's Lulu.
09:50Sultry, mysterious, seductive.
09:52It's more like reds, burgundies, golds on the eyes.
09:55And then I pinched past look to the lips.
10:01Right, I feel like I need to move on now.
10:03I really like these colours.
10:07Very dramatic.
10:08Yeah.
10:11The part of the brief I'm excited about is the eyeshadow.
10:14I love bright, colourful things.
10:17Very bold.
10:19I used a lot of different textures, so metallic, shimmer, gloss, glitter, because it's important
10:26that it can be seen from all angles.
10:27And also, those textures read amazingly with the lighting.
10:32Wow.
10:32Old.
10:32I'm a little bit of a perfectionist and do more beauty makeup, so I just need to remember
10:44that just as much as it looks good up close, it also needs to look good from the back row.
10:49I feel like I might have gone too much with the blusher.
10:53It's never too much.
10:56The makeup definitely needs to read from the back and the front, so you need to make the
11:01shapes and the colours bolder and bigger.
11:03It needs to be high impact.
11:05Yeah, that's really bright.
11:06In theatre makeup, you never want to blend too much, because we do want some sort of harsh
11:12line so that people all the way back over there can see it.
11:19I feel like we've definitely got this in a bag.
11:21She was already in my basket before I left the house.
11:27I'm definitely in my element.
11:31With performers due on stage for tonight's show, Guy will step in if the looks aren't
11:36right.
11:38One thing I'm just noticing is that Jamie hasn't even opened his eyeshadow palette, and I think
11:43he's been distracted by the pot of pigment, which is really meant to be used very sparingly,
11:48because it's UV reflective.
11:50Oh.
11:51Which, under the lighting design, I think that amount will just look crazy.
11:56Whoops.
11:57Yeah.
12:01One little thing that I'm a little concerned about is the amount of the neon pigment.
12:06I think if you can try and take a bit of this off...
12:10Just brush it.
12:12Give it a good brush, but try not to disturb your brow blocking, and then go in with the
12:16matte shadow.
12:17Yeah.
12:17I think that will give you a bit of a better start.
12:19Is that okay?
12:20Yeah, yeah.
12:20Of course, yeah.
12:23You literally look at it, and it's screaming UV.
12:30Yeah, I feel like that's definitely dialed it down.
12:31I feel like this is the only time where it's acceptable to actually have mascara underneath
12:37your eyes.
12:39The Kit Kat girls, it's kind of like the end of the night, so we're looking for great
12:45makeup that's grubby.
12:48It's perfectly imperfect.
12:51Obviously, like, this look isn't supposed to be, like, as if they've just put on the
12:57makeup.
12:59We would never on this show have tape under the eye, because that just implies that you're
13:03worried about fallout and everything.
13:05And in truth, we encourage that.
13:06So I'll be looking out for how she adjusts that later on.
13:09I do love blush.
13:12This is, like, needed in a playground right now.
13:15And how do you think Jake's doing so far with the application?
13:18I actually think that he is really nailing the fact that it doesn't have the sort of
13:23super smooth blending everywhere, and I like that.
13:25Okay.
13:28Okay, everyone.
13:30So that is your one-hour call.
13:31You've had one hour.
13:32What?
13:33So I'm going to need my Kit Kats in costume and wigs in one hour.
13:37Okay, I'm not speaking.
13:38I'm sorry.
13:38I can't speak.
13:39Brows.
13:40Okay, now I'm going to go in with the brows.
13:42Having created a blank canvas, the MUAs now need to draw on a perfect 1930s brow.
13:49The thing is, like, when I do these brows, there's no going back.
13:52Going in for the kill.
13:55Right, let's go.
13:56We usually say, like, the brows are sisters, not twins.
14:11No, but they need to be twins because it's my reputation.
14:13I think I'm doing stupidly well for time, which always makes me panic because I'm always, like, finished early and sometimes it really doesn't work out for me.
14:41The neon look is definitely coming together.
14:44Would doing theatre makeup be something that you want to go deeper into, maybe?
14:48100% I mean, like, this especially.
14:51Bright, colourful, bold, like, eyeshadow looks that I love doing.
14:55So I would never say no to doing something like this again, honestly.
14:58Say that louder.
14:59Guys, just over your shoulder.
15:02Hi, MUAs.
15:05Okay, MUAs, that's your 30-minute call.
15:09Oh, my Lord.
15:1130 minutes.
15:12Thank you very much.
15:14Now the MUAs need to focus on the elements which make their looks unique.
15:20Pinch it on gap two.
15:23Right.
15:24Pinch past look to the lips.
15:26So cute, isn't it?
15:31I'm obsessed with a little moustache.
15:33That moustache, to me, I'm not reading it.
15:36It's definitely way too small.
15:38The shape's good, but it needs to be about five times bigger.
15:41So what's going on with Jade now?
15:42The lip, it needs a lot more definition.
15:44And I'd go in with a darker pencil or even a dark shadow to do that.
15:49Oh, perfect.
15:49I'm literally just doing the lips now.
15:53Then it's going to be just, like, constantly staring at her to make sure, like, everything's perfect.
15:58How's Mia getting on?
15:59I think she really needs to make it look a lot more lived in and get a bit more grunge going, because Rosie is a bit of a punk.
16:05Right.
16:06Yeah.
16:07I thought I'd quickly glue on the lashes and then obviously do, like, the smaller details, like the dots.
16:17Most of the girls in the Kit Kat club have got beauty spots.
16:21What is the, you know, story or the history behind the beauty marks?
16:24Well, they originally came from when people had diseases and they left scarring.
16:28So they would cover them up with a little black spot and then it became a fashion trend.
16:32Oh, wow.
16:33Mm.
16:41I am finished.
16:46Are you done, Mia?
16:47Yeah.
16:48Are we shocked?
16:49No.
16:50I don't really think there's anything else I can do, to be honest.
16:54OK, MUAs, I've got two people who'd love to have a look at your make-up.
17:00Is it Billy Porter?
17:01No, no, it can't be.
17:05MUA.
17:05All right.
17:07Oh, my God.
17:08Oh, my God.
17:09Are they dressed up?
17:10Hi.
17:11Hi.
17:14Here to assist Guy in judging the looks are the leading actors themselves.
17:19Tony, Grammy and Emmy Award winning Billy Porter
17:22and double Olivier nominated Marisha Wallace.
17:27How are you?
17:28Of course there.
17:29I'm good.
17:30Oh, my God.
17:33Send me home.
17:35I don't care.
17:36I don't need to win.
17:37Look at this.
17:39Yes.
17:39Amazing.
17:40There's a tradition in musical theater where the ensemble are all alike.
17:47Hmm.
17:47This ensemble is not.
17:50Every single Kit Kat girl is specific in their own character.
17:56In this production, makeup is so important.
17:59And it shows you how makeup does give people individualization.
18:03And it kind of shows you their personality.
18:07All right, MUAs.
18:09You got 15 minutes.
18:10Oh.
18:11So snatch it up.
18:12Showtime, honey.
18:13Showtime.
18:13Let's go.
18:16With the Kit Kat girls' performance looming,
18:19Guy has one last chance to suggest any changes that MUAs need to make.
18:24Jamie, quick little bit of feedback.
18:26If you turn to the side, do you see this gap?
18:29Yeah.
18:29Just make sure that this connects to the eye so that you see there's no space in between.
18:35Yeah.
18:35And then I would say lip needs to be darker, a lot darker.
18:39Yeah?
18:42I just want you to think about having the mustache bigger.
18:46Okay.
18:47Thicker or longer?
18:48A bit of both.
18:49Okay.
18:52I think that we need a lot more blush.
18:54Just get that color a lot stronger.
18:57And the same with the lip.
18:59I think we can have a little bit more of a sort of roughness to it.
19:04Cool.
19:04Yeah.
19:05Lovely.
19:16I've got my checklist done.
19:18I'm just trying to intensify this blue.
19:20Look at me from...
19:26Yeah, that's good advice from him.
19:31These are very minor changes.
19:33Easily done.
19:34Okay, MUAs, that is brushes down.
19:42We need to get our Kit Kats into wigs and costumes.
19:45Thank you very much.
19:51Nice to meet you.
19:52I'm pretty sure I've finished with like 30 minutes left.
19:56But I do feel like it looks like the photo.
20:01That was so much fun.
20:02My comfort zone is very much perfection.
20:04So just being able to actually just go a bit crazy and just make it look a bit like worse for wear was really fun.
20:09I feel very confident that I can win.
20:15Guy, Billy and Marisha will now assess the looks to see if they're ready for the stage.
20:22The MUA with the look closest to Guy's original will be invited back to the Kit Kat club to see a gala performance as a VIP guest.
20:34Over to Billy.
20:36Oh, Lulu!
20:37Does she make you a little Lulu?
20:41Do I make you a little Lulu?
20:44Ooh!
20:46Do you think that because a lot of you guys do a lot more beauty that you found it hard to get that theatre intensity?
20:53I did struggle.
20:54Like, I am a perfectionist.
20:56It doesn't matter, like, my opinion.
20:58I needed to replicate what was on my reference picture.
21:04So Jade's Kit Kat.
21:06She's definitely nailed the shapes.
21:09I would like a little bit more contrast, just so that we get that depth from far away.
21:13For me, if I was sat up in the gods, that's going to look very natural.
21:18Yeah.
21:18I think Jade has achieved a really beauty version of Lulu's look.
21:23She's going on a first date, and I want to see her at 4 o'clock the morning after.
21:29Thank you, Lulu.
21:30OK, so next up, Billy.
21:33Rosie!
21:34Oh, Rosie, she smells so sweet!
21:40Was there any obstacles that you guys faced doing your look at all?
21:46Yeah, because obviously, like, they need to see it from the back, but it can't look crazy for the people in the front.
21:54Rosie is Mia's Kit Kat.
21:56I actually think it's executed beautifully, but it is a little bit too well-blended. Probably would have liked it a little bit rougher.
22:05Once again, for me, it's the Kit Kat club on a TV.
22:08Yeah, yeah.
22:09This is Kit Kat club on a nice day.
22:13Yeah, like if you want to recreate it on TikTok.
22:17She finished really early, and so I would have taken that time to just stand back so you can see it as it would be on stage.
22:28Texas!
22:28Yeah!
22:33Texas is from America!
22:39Jake, how do you think it went for you?
22:42It's done.
22:44And you've got no notes, that's a good sign, because the rest of us did, so I'm worried now.
22:50So, Texas is Jake's Kit Kat.
22:53I think that the skin was executed so well.
22:57No brow hair, no pores, no nothing.
22:59He knew exactly how to apply the tooth gap, which is good, because if you don't know what you're doing, it just comes straight off.
23:05What I love so much about this one is that there is a roughness, a grittiness to it.
23:12I think it's an all-round fabulous make-up.
23:17So, our next Kit Kat is Helga.
23:20Helga!
23:20Helga is my baby!
23:24And I loved sort of doing that outrageous, crazy, like, make-up, and it was very bold.
23:30And, obviously, I'm, like, very bold and very out there.
23:33You don't say.
23:33Helga is Jamie's Kit Kat.
23:41Slight issue with the amount of the neon pigment that he was using, so I had to just step in and make an adjustment.
23:49And, again, I did give a note to make sure that the blush would meet the eye.
23:53And he followed that note and has given a lovely job.
23:57For me, thus far, this is the closest to what it looks like in the show.
24:02This feels like Helga.
24:03Yeah.
24:03But would Jamie have got there in the time had you not jumped in?
24:09Because it sounds to me like the original make-up was never going to be seen on stage.
24:13Frenchy.
24:18Frenchy is like a croissant.
24:21Hard and crusty on the outside, but warm on the inside.
24:30Cherise, how did you find doing that?
24:32It was very liberating, honestly.
24:34Yeah, yeah.
24:35Doing, like, a character-based look that was, I don't know, just a bit more messy and, like, forcing myself on my comfort zone was just so, so fun.
24:41Frenchy is Cherise's Kit Kat.
24:45Again, this make-up is beautifully blended.
24:49I love the blush, but I would have just gone ten times stronger on the eye.
24:54And the brows and the moustache could be thicker.
24:57Yeah, yeah.
24:58It's beautiful.
24:59Yeah, but we want fierce.
25:00But we want fierce.
25:01More make-up.
25:02It just needs that extra bit of welly to get it seen right up there.
25:06What's welly?
25:07A bit of welly.
25:08Welly.
25:09A bit of welly.
25:10Go get a bit of welly.
25:11Who here thinks that they have got this in the bag?
25:19No key.
25:20A hand win.
25:20Why did no one ask for that hand?
25:22I don't know.
25:23I never know.
25:25I think it's time for us to see what the judge's verdict is.
25:28Let's exit stage right.
25:29There you go.
25:30So, the make-up artist who is the winner today really impressed me.
25:43They delivered my design to a tee.
25:46It was imperfectly perfect.
25:48And I loved it.
25:49And the winner is...
25:51And the winner is...
25:52Jake.
25:53I completely did not expect that.
26:00That's crazy.
26:01That's a huge honour.
26:03And that's very surprising.
26:04Because of this win now, I do sort of feel seen.
26:08And at this point in the competition, I do feel like that's important.
26:12You just knew exactly what you were doing the whole way through.
26:14It looked just incredible.
26:15I did.
26:16It was incredible.
26:17It was really, really beautifully done.
26:21And I think the imperfectly perfect part was also really achieved beautifully.
26:27We love that you really made it look rough and tumble and, like, we've been in a Kit Kat
26:33club dancing all night long.
26:34You know what I'm saying?
26:35You did a great job.
26:36Yeah.
26:37I feel like I'm on my way to, like, be more positive about things now.
26:40Who lost you at the oven?
26:47Oh, it's here.
26:48Never mind.
26:49Today was super fun, though.
26:52Like, it was definitely worth the early wake-up.
26:54Oh, yeah.
26:55Yeah.
26:56Like, Billy Porter.
26:57Mad.
26:58The Billy Porter.
27:00The Billy Porter.
27:01Mr. Winner Winner, can you please get out of your head now?
27:04I know.
27:05I need to.
27:06I said it's literally 50-50 chance of being in the red chairs and that.
27:09I actually have no clue who's going to be where.
27:14Same.
27:15Apart from, obviously, Jake's safe.
27:16Mm-hmm.
27:17Bring it on.
27:18Yeah.
27:26The next day at Glow Up Studios, the show must go on.
27:31But not before the MUAs find out who were the bottom two in yesterday's cabaret assignment.
27:37And we'll start today in the red chairs.
27:39Let's go.
27:42Let's go.
27:43Let's go.
27:52Slay.
27:53Charisse, Jamie, sadly you guys are in the red face of Ches, meaning you'll have 15 minutes
28:09less to complete today's creative brief.
28:12Jamie, on stage your look was so strong, but you did use too much of the wrong product
28:16on the eye, and I did have to step in for the blush placement, so unfortunately I wouldn't
28:20have put that look on stage.
28:22Charisse, it was a softer version of my look, and I did ask to make those brows and moustache
28:28a bit thicker, but it wasn't enough.
28:33Yesterday, your looks took us to an edgy, outrageous, 1930s cabaret club.
28:42And outrageous is exactly what you have to bring today to smash your look.
28:49Today's creative brief is decadence.
28:52We don't mind how or what you interpret as decadent, as long as it's extra.
28:58So, are we ready?
29:00Yes!
29:01Well then, bring in the models!
29:03You have two and a half hours to complete your creative brief.
29:16Charisse, Jamie, I'll let you know when you can start.
29:18But the rest of you, your time starts now.
29:21It's just a 15 minute wait now.
29:28You know what I mean?
29:30Yeah.
29:31Yeah.
29:32Yeah, I will be fine.
29:33Give us a quick ride, can we?
29:35The MUAs today have to go above and beyond because, let's face it, they're all fighting for a place in the final four.
29:44All of them are so good, so, you know, it's going to be a hair's breath.
29:49And you have a bit of block out your eyebrows.
29:52Gorgeous canvas.
29:54Hey girl, I have an itching to come and talk to you.
29:57How are you feeling right now?
29:59I'm not going to cry again.
30:01No, I know.
30:02Don't be upset because there's literally nothing wrong with what you did.
30:05It's just the tiny, it's splitting hands.
30:08So, I just wanted to, I was trying to communicate with my eyes.
30:10I tried to use the South London telepathy there.
30:12I was like, please, don't cry.
30:14I think it almost feels like the moment I feel confident that that's when I do the worst.
30:19And it's frustrating.
30:20But what you do know is that you can get out of this.
30:23I hope so.
30:24I hope so.
30:25Hello, Jamie.
30:34Hey.
30:35How are you?
30:36I'm good.
30:37How are we feeling right now being in the red chair?
30:40Weirdly, I feel fine.
30:41That's not weird.
30:42That's just always you.
30:43You can definitely, like, beat the seat.
30:46You sure you're not about to be the face of the assassin, babe?
30:48I feel like I already am.
30:50I've already done two, so.
30:51Sway the day.
30:52Yeah.
30:56Today's brief is decadence.
30:59So, what sort of looks do you think we're going to get today?
31:01We're going to be looking for indulgent, rich, luxurious makeup.
31:08I feel like this is a chance to show the judges that there is, like, another side of me going to be trying.
31:20Is that it?
31:21As someone who loves a bit of maximalist, I don't even see a millimetre of skin.
31:26I don't really see myself as a very decadent person, so I'm not feeling good about this brief.
31:31I want stick-ons.
31:33I want big pieces.
31:35Think of, like, a high-end charity shop.
31:38That is what I think of when I see you.
31:40Is it?
31:43It's funny because it's true.
31:46I just need to make sure that my look is enough.
31:50I think I would go down metals.
31:53Precious gems.
31:54Yes.
31:55Costume jewelry.
31:56Costume jewelry, there you go.
31:57I'm Indian, so I grew up going to a lot of Indian weddings.
32:03So, as soon as we got the brief of decadence, I immediately thought of Indian jewelry.
32:09But as I researched a little bit more into decadence, obviously it's not necessarily a positive thing.
32:16I mean, if you go by the actual definition, it's kind of the downfall of society.
32:21So, I have researched into what jewels were stolen in the colonial loot from India.
32:30So, I've gone with the Tamir ruby.
32:33So, I'm just blocking my model's brows out.
32:38Rubies don't have brows.
32:41When they say go, I'm like, I'm taking the shelf with me.
32:46Cherise, Jamie, your time starts now.
32:49Ooh!
32:51I'm going to pull that away!
32:55Cotton pads.
33:02I'm taking decadence in a completely different mindset.
33:06Mia is also exploring the negative effects of decadence.
33:11Rather than, like, big, bold glamour, I'm kind of doing it and then, like, the overindulging
33:15and something and it going wrong.
33:17My luck is based on the over-consumption of technology.
33:22Also, mixing the characters from the Capital and the Hunger Games.
33:25They're overindulging in the technology.
33:27They're getting these procedures to make themselves half robot.
33:31And then this one's gone really wrong.
33:33All of these precepts are completely different shaped.
33:36There's no need for symmetry because they're all completely different.
33:39This is going to actually kill me cutting a bald cap.
33:46What is this?
33:49It looks like a strip of a bald cap.
33:51Oh, so what I've done here at the moment is I've slicked back the hair and placed a bald cap over the top.
33:59And then I'm just sort of blending it out.
34:02Talk to me about your idea of decadence.
34:04I'm doing, like, the overindulgence of wealth in the music industry.
34:09They sort of have all this money and then they're like, oh, I'm going to buy a new jet, a new car, another mansion.
34:14So what exactly are you going to be doing with the makeup then?
34:17So, I'm basically going to make it look like luxury has branded the skin.
34:21So, she's going to have, like, burns coming up into the hairline and then covering the eye.
34:28Oh, I'm excited to see this.
34:39Decadence can be, you know, it can be positive, but sometimes it can be negative.
34:44Decadence or decadence, oh, I'll spray my ankle.
34:52I wanted to lean sort of more into the consequences of decadence and overindulgence.
34:59My overall intention with this look is that just because things sort of may look pretty or expensive, it can also be toxic and harmful to you.
35:08I've made some, like, mushroom, like, 3D bits I'm going to put on to kind of represent the decay.
35:16Five, six, five, six, seven, eight.
35:22Oh, M, G. Look at the amount of paintwork.
35:29Can we just go to Jake?
35:31Wow.
35:33He is not afraid of colour.
35:36Hi, Jake.
35:38You feeling good today? I mean, congratulations on yesterday.
35:41Thank you. Winning yesterday was quite important.
35:43I feel like it's given me some confidence.
35:45Once you prepare for, like, a disappointment, it's of such a nice relief to be like, oh.
35:47Yeah.
35:49So it's like, trick yourself.
35:50Yeah.
35:51I did bad. Actually, I win.
35:53So what is the inspiration behind this look?
35:56This is, like, the sort of, like, character that I'm imagining called, like, Sweet Tooth, who's, like, all my, like, childhood, like, sweets, like, altogether, like, rock from the seaside, ice cream, chewed up chewing gum, nerds.
36:07My nan used to just make the most decadent display of, like, sweets and treats.
36:14Is it going to be a monster style, or...?
36:17It's not going to be monster this time, because, obviously, I got the critique of, like, you know, we've seen you do a monster, can you show us pretty?
36:23Like, I just want to show that I can step out of the darkness and do something a bit more light.
36:28Well, Grandma, this looks for you.
36:31It is, yeah.
36:32I feel like almost every look is, like, inspired by her.
36:35Oh, I love that.
36:36Yeah.
36:38I love it.
36:39I love it.
36:43Where's your eye falling?
36:45It could be an eye open.
36:48What do you want, Blah?
36:49I think she's got her eye on the prize.
36:56You know that clown emoji?
36:57Yeah.
36:58Yeah.
37:03This is basically to make it look like the face has bent.
37:07I am very determined to get out of this red chair.
37:12It's very non-creepy.
37:14It's very outside my comfort zone in that respect, for sure, 100%.
37:22That was really funny, Jake, over there.
37:24He, like, usually does, like, cool monster things,
37:27but, like, he's never done pretty.
37:29And I usually do, like, pretty things,
37:31so we basically, like, did, like, a switcheroo.
37:35MUAs, we have just one hour left.
37:38I need to get my knees on.
37:44So decadent.
37:45So decadent.
37:47For, like, the most decadent people in the room
37:49are definitely bow and dumb.
37:51They give off very decadent vibes.
37:53How is it orange?
37:55Is it orange?
37:56It's all right, but I prefer a satsuma.
37:58A satsuma, I know.
38:06What are you up to?
38:08I have made these little mushrooms.
38:11I made these completely by hand using foam clay,
38:13just sort of layering and moulding.
38:15Nice.
38:16I've never sort of made my own, like, 3D elements before.
38:19Yeah.
38:20From a theatre perspective, this would read amazing.
38:24That's good to know.
38:25Yeah, this would literally pop.
38:26Wish I knew that yesterday, don't you?
38:29Listen, I literally can't wait to see those mushrooms stuck on as well.
38:32They'll be on shortly.
38:33Shortly.
38:41I'm trying to work out how I want this to look sort of glossy.
38:45Like a hard-boiled sweet.
38:47Yeah.
38:48You'll probably want to keep your mouth and eyes closed for this.
38:50Mm-hmm.
38:51Like, you don't want to breathe this in.
38:53Like, you won't die, but it's not pleasant.
39:00Hi, Jake.
39:01Hi.
39:02Congratulations for yesterday.
39:03Thank you very much.
39:04Now, tell me about this.
39:05So, I'm trying to do something a little bit more beautiful this week.
39:08Yeah, well, it definitely is.
39:10I love your use of the white highlights to get that shiny texture going.
39:13It's really cool.
39:14Yeah.
39:15So, tell me a little bit about what you kind of aspire to do in makeup.
39:18I just want to get back into the industry,
39:19because I've had to take, like, two years off.
39:21Okay.
39:22To look after family members.
39:23Yeah.
39:24What sort of realm of makeup, though?
39:25Like, special effects is my dream.
39:27Like, I want to watch a horror film with a really cool monster in it
39:29and say, dig me as well.
39:31I love that.
39:32MUAs, you have just 30 minutes left.
39:36Ooh.
39:42So, time-wise, how are you doing?
39:43I need to do the sort of beauty element.
39:45Okay.
39:46I think I'm going to do more of, like, a dark smokey eye.
39:47Okay.
39:48And then I'm going to have some gold dripping down as well.
39:50Ooh.
39:51Love it.
39:55I am applying my 3D mushrooms currently.
40:01I have some feather lashes here.
40:04Oh, bidets.
40:06We've got a feather lash.
40:09Ooh.
40:10I despise feather lashes.
40:13Feather lashes.
40:14A feather lash is just quite predictable.
40:16I am yet to see a make-up look where a feather lash has looked good.
40:23MUAs, you have 10 minutes left.
40:25It's only the last we've got left, babe.
40:26We are good in the hood.
40:27I'm just going to make it really look like it's on fire.
40:42You don't think I am.
40:43I'm usually finished by now.
40:44God.
40:45So many sprinkles in my belly button.
40:46Oh, my God.
40:47I'm so sorry.
40:48MUAs, your time is up.
40:49Rushes down.
40:50Please take your models next door to be photographed.
40:51Just take all the sprinkles off.
40:53Yeah.
40:54I think the prosthetics went really well today.
40:55I mean, I am personally proud of it, but I feel like it is a very complicated story.
41:02I'm so sorry.
41:03MUAs, your time is up.
41:04Rushes down.
41:05Please take your models next door to be photographed.
41:07Just take all the sprinkles off.
41:08Yeah.
41:09I think the prosthetics went really well today.
41:14I mean, I am personally proud of it, but I feel like it is a very complicated story.
41:23I hope I have done enough to beat the seat.
41:28There is not as many of us, so it just feels like the odds of being in the bottom are so
41:32much higher.
41:37I am definitely fighting to keep my place here.
41:40There is no way I want to be in that face-off chair again.
41:49Cherise, please step forward.
41:53Please tell me your story.
41:57I wanted to lean more into the decay element of decadence.
42:01I kind of wanted to make decay look beautiful.
42:04I think this is a beautiful makeup.
42:08The way you've laid down colour onto the face.
42:11I mean, this is a master painter.
42:14For me, did you need the lash?
42:17I felt like it looked really imbalanced without it, honestly.
42:20What I would say is the real lash, curl it.
42:24That was very Bristolian, wasn't it?
42:25Curl it.
42:26Why didn't you curl it?
42:27Curl the lash so that when you put the fake lash on, they blend together more.
42:33But I think it's a superb makeup.
42:36Thank you so much.
42:38Yes, I agree.
42:39I think you've adhered the mushrooms perfectly.
42:43I think it's beautifully executed.
42:45Thank you so much.
42:47You've taken this concept of decadence.
42:49You've moved it into the realm of decay.
42:51But you've taken it so far over.
42:53I wonder whether you've taken it too far.
42:56So without the story, we wouldn't really know what we're looking at.
42:59Fair enough.
43:00Jade, do you like to come up?
43:02Yeah.
43:06As I researched the actual meaning of decadence,
43:09it's kind of the moral decline due to the excess of luxury.
43:13I came across the Tamir ruby stolen from India during the colonial loot.
43:18What I love is the over-embellishment of this,
43:22the use of those chains and the studs.
43:26It creates a real opulence.
43:29It screams regal to me.
43:32If I'm going to be really picky, I look at this
43:34and I don't necessarily see the facets of the ruby around the edge.
43:39Yeah.
43:40I don't get the ruby.
43:42I get a red shape on the face.
43:44Yeah.
43:45I think if you're going to do a big sort of graphic shape,
43:48make sure your edges are kind of like they're cut sharp.
43:52Yeah.
43:53You know, like a ruby.
43:55Lots of sharp edges.
43:57But overall, it's decadent.
44:00It's opulent.
44:02You're a queen.
44:04Thank you so much.
44:05Mia, please step forward.
44:09So my look is based on my love of like dystopia movies of like the Hunger Games and the over-indulgence of technology.
44:22And how it's like the theory that robots are gonna take over the world.
44:26So I've kind of made a look based on that and it's gone wrong.
44:30There's so much going on.
44:32Yeah.
44:33In this makeup.
44:34But we know that you're the prosthetics queen, right?
44:37Mm-hmm.
44:38They're just so well done.
44:40That veining under the eyes.
44:42So real.
44:44But your prosthetics are so far back on the face.
44:49Yeah, you can't see it.
44:50I agree with Val.
44:51There are so many elements that it becomes confusing.
44:56And I've never hidden from my hatred of a feather lash.
45:02I have to thank you because you've given me proof as to why feather lashes are the devil's work.
45:10It is chaotic.
45:11It is misplaced.
45:12They are too heavy.
45:13So they droop down.
45:14They give the model a bit of a sad eye.
45:17So knowing how to work around what you're trying to do, I think that's the next step for you.
45:22Yeah.
45:23When I would have been planning your look and I would have thought,
45:26I'm good at prosthetics, I would have leant into that.
45:29But you think decadent, I would have been, I would have covered the whole face in prosthetics if I could.
45:33So I think when you come to create another look, just think, what am I best at?
45:38And lean into that.
45:39Make your job easier by doing something that you love and that you know you're good at.
45:44Thank you so much.
45:45Thank you, Mia.
45:46Thank you, Mia.
45:47Come on up, Jamie, and tell us your story.
45:54So my makeup look is based on the overconsumption and overindulgence of wealth in the music industry.
46:00The application of the bowl cap, cutting it up, I thought was really clever.
46:04The layering of the silicon to create this sort of mottling, she looks tarnished.
46:11That is really good.
46:13My worry is that you concentrated so much on the illusion aspect that the actual beauty makeup that's applied lacked.
46:21When we look at this eye, is it meant to be pretty?
46:25Is it meant to just look dusty and burnt?
46:27And the lip, I don't feel the wealth, I don't feel the luxury, I don't feel the decadence.
46:35I can see the decay, but I can't see the overindulgence.
46:41Right.
46:42Is the glam big enough?
46:43Does she look rich?
46:45No, I didn't want to go too extreme.
46:48You didn't want to go too extreme?
46:51The brief was maximalism.
46:54But I love the sort of luxury of the gold that you've created, and I think that that technique is really amazing.
47:00Thank you so much.
47:02Thanks, Jamie.
47:04Jake, please come forward.
47:11The idea of this is this is a character called Sweet Tooth, which is all my childhood sweets as one thing, and it's all dripping and it's all together.
47:21Thank you for your story.
47:23Oh, my God, I love it!
47:25Oh, this is everything.
47:28It's stunning.
47:32I am obsessed with you and your use of color.
47:36You start with a wide wash, and then you get closer, and then you get closer, just giving more nuggets.
47:44It's just everything.
47:47The overall effect is just one of beautiful light play.
47:51I just thought this is trompe l'oeil, which is the French for trick the eye.
47:56Chef's kiss.
47:57J'adore.
47:59Thank you so much.
48:00I think that I see you as a painter.
48:04That's why you do the canvas first.
48:07This is the best painting that I have seen in this room.
48:12You know, you've got your monsters, and you love your monsters, but you have created a hero.
48:18This is original, maximal, and unique.
48:23This is such a major ding dong.
48:31Unbelievable.
48:32Thank you so much.
48:34I guess I've just had the perfect week.
48:36I just, I won the industry assignment, and now I've just got a ding dong.
48:40So I'm starting to, like, believe in myself a bit more.
48:44MUAs, if you'd like to go next door, myself, Val, and Guy will be having a chat to work out which two of you will end up in the Face Off elimination.
48:51Let's start by talking about the two artists in the Face Off chair.
49:00Should we start with...?
49:01Charisse.
49:02Okay.
49:04I think we've seen people in the past that they've done incredible makeup looks, but they're not thinking it's read the brief, and that's still kept them in the red chair, so I don't feel safe.
49:11I mean, Charisse did a number on us because it's so beautiful.
49:17It's, it feels like something you'd see in the National Portrait Gallery.
49:21I mean, I think it's a work of art.
49:24Glamour and decay, isn't it?
49:26Jamie.
49:28It is a shame.
49:29Jamie has talent, but he gets caught up in one part of the makeup and doesn't really look at the bigger picture.
49:38I don't think I've beat the seat because of how strong everyone else's looks were.
49:42They really like the mottling over the eye.
49:44In fact, she did it with a bald cap as well. It was crazy.
49:47What Jamie has done is good.
49:50Does it tell the story?
49:53No.
49:54And I don't think it's a successful meeting the brief.
49:57No.
49:58So let's talk about Mia.
50:00There's like five different ideas in there.
50:04And they don't fit together.
50:05Yeah.
50:06But her vain work, I really bought into that.
50:09But see, that's where her heart is.
50:11Maybe she just wants to work on a film.
50:13Yeah.
50:14Well, is that good enough to become Britain's next makeup star?
50:17Maybe not.
50:18Oh, they didn't really get the look.
50:20I feel like I could be in the chair.
50:22But I just kind of hope my comments on the prosthetics keep me out of it.
50:25I think we all agree who's going into the face-off elimination.
50:31Yeah, I think so.
50:32I think so too.
50:34So guys, who here thinks that they could be in the face-off today?
50:38Well, guys, this has been tough.
50:50Charisse, Jamie, you both started today in the red face-off chairs.
50:55Charisse, your story wasn't completely clear.
50:59But you gave us an absolutely beautiful makeup look.
51:03Your use of colors, shades and textures was sublime.
51:08Once again, you beat the seat.
51:10Oh, my God.
51:11Oh, my God.
51:14Yes, I'm so proud.
51:16Well done.
51:18Jamie, we couldn't see your story.
51:21You spent so long with your prosthetics that it meant that the beauty was lacking.
51:26Unfortunately, you will be the first MUA going into the face-off elimination.
51:31Which means we have another seat to film.
51:38Mia, your prosthetics were amazing.
51:44But your look was over-complicated.
51:50So we couldn't see your decadence.
51:54So, Mia, you'll be the second MUA going into the face-off elimination.
52:00Thank you, judges.
52:03All right, guys.
52:05Get ready and say goodbye.
52:07Staying here is helping me grow as an artist and, like, really pushing my creativity.
52:12So I am definitely going to fight for this.
52:14Third time's a charm, I guess.
52:16I was sort of expecting it.
52:17But, yeah, I am definitely not going home today.
52:20I'm going to fight till the death.
52:22To create a level playing field, the MUAs will face-off over a set of identical twins.
52:33For today's face-off, we're going to be putting your line work to the test.
52:37We want you to create a striking doll eye.
52:40You must create a liner underneath the lower lash line with seven bold, sharp under-eye lashes.
52:50These must be evenly spaced to create a balanced, symmetrical shape.
52:58To create the illusion of a dull eye, big, bold lashes are key.
53:03Firstly, leaving a small gap, draw a line under the lash line to make the eye look bigger.
53:09Then draw a lash either end of this line and one in the middle.
53:13Now you can add your remaining lashes.
53:16A top tip, use a cotton bud to help with the equal spacing of those lashes.
53:21Finally, use some concealer on a cotton bud to clean up any rough edges.
53:26And that is how you create a pretty cutesy doll eye.
53:31Mia and Jamie, you will have 10 minutes to complete this face-off.
53:36Good luck.
53:38And your time starts now.
53:43Well, so far, it's neck and neck.
54:04Jamie was confident with his application.
54:07But he's spending longer to make sure that that bottom lash line is symmetrical.
54:13Look, Mia, it was very timid.
54:16And I think when you're doing a liner like that with a pen, you've just got to go bold.
54:23You've just got to go...
54:24If they both started by putting the first lash in the middle, what I would have done was go to either end and work my way with the distance in between.
54:40MUAs, you have just two minutes left.
54:4410,
54:459,
54:468,
54:477,
54:486,
54:495,

55:071,
55:082,
55:092,
55:102,
55:111,
55:122,
55:133,
55:142,
55:151,
55:16Brushes down, MUAs.
55:18Ah!
55:42Film Club?
55:43I think so.
55:49They both delivered on a smooth, sharp liner.
55:55Yeah. Jamie delivered really great precision and symmetry, but what Jamie lacked was the sharpness and the cleanness of those lines.
56:07Definition.
56:08Mia has delivered lashes that are unevenly spaced because there's seven lashes on one side and six on the other.
56:19Oh my God, I didn't count that.
56:20Yeah.
56:21It all comes down to one absent lash.
56:26MUAs, we both want to say just how incredible it is that you both have done so well in this competition to get here.
56:39It's amazing.
56:40Jamie, you delivered seven lashes on either eye that were beautifully balanced and evenly spaced.
56:54Mia, you had an absent lash on one side and for that reason, please pack your kit. You'll be going home.
57:08The competition has been hard. I'm still proud of everything I have achieved here.
57:14What?
57:15Everything happens for a reason.
57:16Yeah.
57:17Very true, very wise.
57:18And, you know, it starts now.
57:20You've got a future in prosthetics. You really do.
57:23Being here has very much changed my make-up career and I really love it.
57:28She's back!
57:30Oh my God!
57:31I'm now in the semi-finals, which is amazing.
57:37I am bringing out every single thing that I have in my book.
57:42You are literally the cat with nine lives, babe.
57:44Yeah.
57:45I can smell the final.
57:47Someone has to go home, someone has to go in the face-off and it will not, definitely not be me.
57:53Next time...
57:54It's awards!
57:56The red carpet beckons.
57:58Oh, fuck.
57:59Yes, honey.
58:00In a high-stakes celebrity semi-final.
58:03Think Hailey Bieber.
58:05And at Glow Up Studios...
58:07I gots to go.
58:08I'm running.
58:09The race is on.
58:10Go, go, go.
58:11To make it to the final.
58:13A lot is at stake right now.
58:15This is it.
58:16This is it.
58:17And we're making itHow.
58:18And there so are things that we can move towards.
58:20I cannot buy ivory remains.
58:22And here's why the powerful gold is not drawn Canada.
58:25The name ofonya Beta looks of the fissurman.
58:28I said that.
58:29The Insight YouTube is so shut and spit is welcome.
