00:00So South Shields manager Ian Watson has made his first appointment since he was named as Mariner's boss last week.
00:07It is former Gatehead manager Carl Magnair that has come in as his assistant.
00:12Last week when Ian spoke to the Shields Gazette, he spoke about the need for trust, the need for experience and the need to bring in an assistant manager who knows his methods and knows demands that he'll place on the players at the First Cloud Arena.
00:26He's got exactly that and Carl Magnair, the duo have worked together at Gatehead, at MK Dons and at Carly United so it kind of works on several different levels.
00:37From Carl Magnair's point of view, he may well feel he has a point of proof after leaving Gatehead on Monday.
00:43Setting off last season in his first main role as a manager didn't go as planned.
00:49Gatehead of course sliding out of the National League playoff places and missing out on a top seven place on the final day of the season.
00:56with a home draw against South End United.
01:00So Carl, back in the game, has plenty of contacts in the Premier League, in the EFL and the non-league scene.
01:06Knows the North East non-league scene inside out, will be keen to maybe prove a point at South Shields, working alongside someone who he trusts.
01:14There was another twist at Gatehead on Tuesday when head of recruitment Luke Clarke confirmed he was leaving the club.
01:21Luke has done a brilliant job there over the last 18 months to two years.
01:26Oversaw something of a mid-season rebuild during the season before last when Gatehead won the FA Trophy and of course were cruelly denied that place in the National League playoffs.
01:36But you look at that, it's another blow for Gatehead.
01:38It means four key departures since the end of last season, bear in mind that was only just under a month ago.
01:44You've now got the head of recruitment that's left.
01:46The chairman, Neil Pinkerton, of course, stepped down to be replaced by Bernard McWilliams.
01:52Club captain Greg Orley has departed as well after his contract came to an end.
01:57And of course, then Carl Magnet himself.
02:00So there's got to be a lot of rebuilding done at Gatehead on and off the pitch this season, of course, trying to get that managerial appointment done as quickly as possible.
02:10Fans understandably concerned.
02:13There is a need, I've said this before, but a need for clear and concise and some sort of sense of direction via communication to the supporters, which I'm sure will come in the coming days.
02:23But back to South Shields, just to round off, Carl Magnet in his number two experience at all levels, someone that knows the game at all levels and someone that will provide Ian Watson with exactly what he's looking for from his assistant manager.
