00:32Just curious first, how do you assess your year over the last few months and you've won a lot of
00:37matches, you've played some great tennis, I'm curious how you're feeling
00:40100%, it's been an unbelievable start of the year, won a lot of good matches, a lot of tough matches,
00:46I've really turned a corner and now I'm just trying to get back to that, I lost a little rhythm,
00:52I'm taking some weeks off, so I'll get back to that
00:54Hopefully this is an event where I kind of catapult myself to get back to winning two, three, four matches,
01:00getting the business and the big event, but ultimately it's been a really, really good start to the season, I've
01:07won a bunch of matches and gave myself a chance in a lot of weeks
01:11This is a great tournament for Americans overall last year, I mean you made quarters, Tommy met quarters, Coco won
01:16it, a bunch of deep runs across the board
01:19Just wondering for you overall what you think of the current state of American tennis now heading into this
01:25Men's side maybe we can stick to especially like Ben being ahead of Taylor now, Taylor coming back, you've had
01:31a good year so far, what do you think about the overall state of the union of U.S. men's
01:35tennis?
01:35I think we've been nice for a long time, I think we've been killing, it's a matter of, we just
01:40have some guys that's just top heavy man where, you know, they're gatekeeping hard
01:44I mean I think, you know, Fritz has been top ten for a bunch of years, Ben's cracked in there,
01:48he's kind of solidified himself being a top ten guy
01:50Tommy, I mean I've been top 20 majority of years, last four years, Tommy as well, he's been flirting in
01:55and out
01:56So, we got Korda, you know, if he's healthy, you know, he's always, again, top 20
02:02But it's just a matter of kind of putting these weeks together and trying to do the ultimate goal and
02:07one of us try to win in this type of event
02:10You know, Ben won a thousand, you know, Fritz has won a thousand, you know, I've made finals of a
02:14thousand
02:14So, we're all flirting with the top of the game, we just got to kind of get over the line
02:18You talk about the gatekeepers, obviously here lately, that means center
02:22I'm curious for you
02:23I mean, tell me if you see another one
02:24Yeah, exactly, I'm curious for you, what do you think it'll take for someone, anyone in the draw out of
02:30the other 127 guys to knock down that gate
02:33Because it seems like it's really him versus the field
02:35Yeah, I mean, look, I mean, he's a hell of a player, I'm not going to sit here and continue
02:40to put him on a pedestal
02:42He's a hell of a player, and obviously he's doing monumental things, but I think, you know, we've got to
02:47believe that you can do the ultimate task and beat him
02:51I mean, everyone's capable, especially the top guys, guys are capable, but
02:56I think the biggest thing is trying to get him out of his high horse mentally
03:01Because I think we're all kind of putting him on a different stratosphere, which he is, but you kind of
03:05create a little bit of an illusion to get you to get over the line
03:11How much of a difference does it make, Francis, when Carlos isn't here, because obviously the two of them have
03:16been kind of, you know, so hard to beat at the slams
03:19I'm not going to do that, though, man
03:21You know, shout out to Carlos, a really good friend of mine
03:24The game needs him, it hurts him, he's out, you know, here in Wimbledon, but, you know, I'm not going
03:29to, you know, rag on a tour like that
03:31You got a ton of great players, and especially a guy like me
03:35I'm not losing to Carlos in the center every week, there's a bunch of guys I've been losing to, so
03:38I'm not going to sit here and say that's a huge opportunity
03:40Is that a fact? Sure, but I'm not going to sit here and say, oh, because Carlos is out, oh,
03:45man, it's wide open
03:46That's not the case
03:48That's not the case, so, yeah, the game is really, really strong
03:57Hi, Francis
03:58Francis, I've been speaking to players about their relationship with fame
04:02When was kind of the first, different degrees, obviously, for different players, but for you personally
04:07When did you, do you remember a first time where you felt like, okay, I am actually relatively in the
04:12public
04:12I need to take care of what I'm doing, and then over time now, how comfortable are you being someone
04:19that
04:20There's expectations on you, there's, you know, you hang out with a lot of also famous people, all of that
04:24Just how comfortable are you with all that?
04:26I don't think I'm famous at all
04:29I don't think that, you know, I just think I'm a regular guy, I just kind of roll the sleeves
04:36up and try to just make a dollar
04:38I don't think I'm famous at all
04:39But for those people who are famous, I mean, I think it's just a matter of kind of just taking
04:47it day by day
04:48And understanding what the main thing is, and it's tennis
04:50Like, I don't think other people's expectations don't really matter, I think you've got to put more expectations on yourself
04:55But it's kind of just walk every day, and be better than you were yesterday
05:00And don't put any added pressure on yourself
05:03A lot of us would have loved to be where we were sitting at 10 years ago, 15 years ago
05:09And just kind of having that perspective, but yeah, I don't think I'm famous at all
05:18I'm curious to know if you are taking part in the 15-minute protest today, and if yes, why?
05:24And I'm also curious about how you organized the scene, was it improvised last minute or last week already?
05:30To be honest, I mean, I was trying to get my clay court season going
05:34I wasn't a part of many of these, but yes, I will be participating in that
05:38You know, it's a lot of unity right now with the players, and I want to support that cause
05:44Last question
05:47Last one
05:50Sometimes in matches, you'll see players get frustrated when an opponent cheers their unforced errors
05:55Like when they're playing badly, I guess, and making a lot of errors
05:59And the guy's cheering against, like fist-pumping and cheering
06:03I'm curious, how do you feel about that? Do you think there's a line, or no?
06:10It depends, I mean, it's like, if it's like
06:13You know, guys are spraying balls all over the place, and you're saying, come on after every point
06:17Or if you're saying, come on after every point, and you're not doing anything, you're just grunting loud
06:20And you're not even hitting the ball hard, and dudes are spraying
06:23I'm like, alright bro, you gotta tighten up a little bit
06:25But if, I mean, if it's a big point, you get an error
06:29I'm trying to win out here, man
06:30Like, I mean, but
06:32There's context to that, but I get why people get annoyed with that
06:34There's some guys out here that are not afraid of a bunch of comeons
06:38But, uh, it is what it is
06:41I mean, look, we're all competitors, and we're all trying to win out here
06:43But it gets, it gets funny out here, for sure
06:45Wow, thank you
06:46Bye, bye, bye, bye, bye, bye, bye, bye, bye, bye, bye, bye, bye, bye, bye, bye, bye, bye, bye, bye,
