Oregon Coach Mark Wasikowski Reveals Why This Ducks Team Is Special
Transcript
00:00Right. What makes this Oregon Ducks baseball team special or maybe different from years past?
00:08Ooh, that's a great question. I really, first off, I think their physicality,
00:17they're really strong. When I first got here was the first thing that we really wanted to do
00:22is invest in the weight room. And I think it's kind of a cliche. A lot of people say it.
00:26These guys really did it. And specifically the position players, we've been able to break a lot
00:33of home run records now. And I really do kind of think there's a few elements there. I do think
00:38the ball is wound a little tighter and it's going further. They've improved a little bit of technology
00:43in the bats, but I can't. And Jack Martin, the hitting coach here that works daily with our
00:49hitters is really good at what he does. I do think that strength in the weight room has been a huge
00:54factor with that. And so one is the physicality. Two is the fact that I think that the locker room
00:59itself, it hasn't always been this way. Now at the beginning of the year, it probably wasn't as
01:04awesome as it is now, but the locker room culture has continued to improve and develop since we've
01:10gotten here. And it was something that the first group actually, when we first showed up in the town
01:14really wanted. And so they, they really peeled away without getting too long winded. My wife would
01:20kill me, but they really wanted to peel away from kind of what you have in the background,
01:25just the stuff, the, the element of the organ stuff, you know, you get all the shoes, you get
01:30all the stuff, you get all the clothes and they wanted to get away from that. And they wanted to
01:33get into people wanting to be here to play for the right reasons. That's winning. And so we start
01:38every year now from the request of basically that first year's team, we start every year with simply
01:44two white t-shirts and a pair of black shorts and a pair of running shoes or a pair of spikes. And
01:49that's it. Like we don't, we don't do the Twitter picture or the Instagram shot with the, you know,
01:54stuff in the locker anymore about how awesome this stuff is. We just go real basic and we earn it.
01:59And, and we really tried to rally around that message. And I think the locker room has,
02:03and those would be the two biggest things I think that make this team special.
02:07I love that. It sounds like it's substance over stuff.
02:10That's part of our, um, yeah, that's part of our acronym in the process process that we have
02:15preparation, relationship, ownership, um, you know, compete energy and effort, substance
02:21and standards. That's, that's what the process stands for in our program. And
02:25that's basically, that's our weightlifting shirt every single day.
02:27That's what we're seeing in the process. We, um, yeah.
02:38We, uh, we can.
02:39It's, uh, we could potentially have time or share, but we can see what we have in ourgrass
02:41that we have in our program to do in our program that shows up a couple days later on.
02:45And we, um, that, we've been doing, uh,
02:48the program, that we're on our program, that we have in our programs for people to be in our program,
02:50some time or?
02:51And we're in our programs for the program and my program that I know we have before,
02:53and why we can absolutely Jeff complic Christ
02:53of the program, and it makes sure, this is a, we can say,
