00:00Donations are pouring in at this community centre in flood-affected Wingham.
00:07It's quite funny, it's like putting it out to the universe.
00:10I turn around and say, you know, we really need this.
00:13I'm not even putting it out there on social media.
00:15I need it, and then within five to ten minutes of coming back in,
00:18someone's got it.
00:19Like, here it is.
00:20It's just manifested, here it is.
00:22Can someone get chai, kettle on a toaster?
00:25As donated goods make their way to flood victims,
00:28help is also on hand from visitors,
00:31some of whom have travelled from interstate.
00:34We're sleeping here in the church hall,
00:36so we know that we've got facilities,
00:37we've brought food with us, and why not?
00:39If we can't be here in the hard times,
00:41why should we be here in the good times?
00:43The Sikh community is pitching in to help.
00:46Anywhere there is a disaster, like bushfire, flood, storm,
00:51anything like that, we try to support the community
00:54with the freshly cooked vegetarian meals.
00:56Support has been pouring in from across the country,
01:00but residents still have a mammoth task ahead of them,
01:04and sometimes it's the smallest gestures of kindness
01:07that had the biggest impact.
01:09Nicole Whiten runs a laundromat in South West Rocks.
01:13She closed her shop for the day
01:15so she could do the washing for families affected by the floods.
01:19I've done probably 50 loads of washing, then drying, then folding.
01:25These people have lost so much,
01:27so it's very humbling just to be able to help in this tiny way
01:30that we think is tiny, but to other people it's massive.
01:33A simple act of generosity in a time of need.
01:37This is a really nice thing,
01:39man doing pretty much,
01:41we use it for lots of years.
01:43You can see the light on the day.
01:46But there is that so many things come in.
01:48Let's see,
01:49we get a good day.
01:50What do we have?
01:51This is a prayer for us.
01:52Let's see.
01:53We'll see you next time.
01:54We'll see you next time.
