White House to find a way to impose tariffs even if it loses in court

White House trade adviser Peter Navarro says on May 29, 2025 that the Trump administration will seek to enact tariffs through other means if it ultimately loses the court fights over its trade policy. Speaking to reporters at the White House, Navarro said that US tariffs would remain in place for now following a court stay and that the administration was still in talks with other countries to continue trade negotiations.

00:00The tariffs remain in place.
00:03The court told us, they didn't all but tell us, they told us, go do it another way.
00:09So you can assume that even if we lose, we will do it another way.
00:15And I can assure you, American people, that the Trump tariff agenda is alive, well, healthy, and will be implemented to protect you, to save your jobs and your factories, and to stop shipping foreign wealth, our wealth, into foreign hands.
00:28But you are working on a plan B right now.
00:30Of course.
00:30There's no plan B.
00:32It's plan A.
00:33Okay?
00:34Plan A encompasses all strategic options.
00:39And when we moved forward, we had a full view of what the battlefield looks like.
00:44We are not naive about rogue justices in the judiciary.
00:49With respect to the reciprocal tariff argument, that was like a whole separate argument.
00:55They basically said that the president acted beyond or beyond the scope of his authority.
01:03And the buried lead in all that was they said, well, this is why the stock market has basically not reacted to this because the status quo is still in place.
01:13It's like you can use other things to accomplish the same result.
01:18We just don't like this one.
01:19You know, it's the 122, the 232, the 301, 338.
01:24Do your homework.
01:25You know how all that works.
01:26Do your homework.
01:56Do your homework.
