00:00The secret of the power of negotiation, finance hacked warmly greets you and our dear friends.
00:07Recently, due to economic pressures, many people have had to look for new jobs or start their own
00:14businesses. What they don't realize is that this process actually involves a very lively field of
00:21study, one we use constantly in daily life without ever noticing. Successful entrepreneurs,
00:28from Trump to Lee Cushing, all regard this field as the most important skill in business.
00:36We simply call it negotiation. Many people see negotiation as a highly specialized area and
00:42feel intimidated. But I earnestly encourage everyone to learn how to truly understand
00:49negotiation. After all, making money has always been inseparable from buying low and selling high.
00:57And negotiation is the most direct, quickest, and most effective way to boost profits or cut
01:04costs. In our daily lives, negotiation can also bring countless conveniences and resolve the majority
01:13of conflicts. That's why today I'd like to introduce you to a book called Secrets of Power Negotiating by
01:20Roger Dawson. The first time I read it, I felt as though a door had opened to a whole new world.
01:28It was as if nothing in life could stump me anymore, and even making money became a lot easier. Today,
01:36I won't hold anything back, I'll share all the insights I've gained from this book.
01:41But that alone isn't enough. I also want to share some practical negotiation mindsets that have
01:49helped me succeed both in business and in life. The content isn't complicated, if you watch until
01:56the end, you'll surely break through any money-making bottlenecks, and earning a much higher income than
02:03average is absolutely within reach. So don't miss the final section. Before we begin,
02:09let me remind you that this channel is dedicated to sharing wealth-building mindsets for entrepreneurs,
02:16investors, and anyone who aspires to become wealthy. If you'd like to receive this information for free,
02:25please consider subscribing to my channel and turning on notifications.
02:30I sincerely wish everyone who likes this video an early achievement of financial freedom.
02:36All right, enough preamble, let's dive straight into the core content.
02:43First, you absolutely must grasp this foundational mindset and build a solid base before learning the
02:49techniques. Negotiation actually has four levels. Remember, business people must master the highest level.
02:59But we'll start with the lowest. Level one is broken negotiations.
03:06Simply put, there's nothing left to negotiate and you end up in court.
03:11This happens when both sides tear off their masks, refuse to concede, and can no longer cooperate.
03:18Resorting to figures or the law is the worst option. It certainly brings negative consequences for both parties.
03:29Financial, resource, or emotional losses are just the beginning.
03:35Once litigation starts, any goodwill is gone.
03:39Even if you win, you'll never work together again. You may even end up with a new enemy,
03:46and your losses could be far greater. Level two is a zero-sum game.
03:50My win is your loss, and the two sides sum to zero.
03:55In other words, either you win or I lose, so you must maximize your own benefit.
04:01While this might look like success, it can't last because people will only want to deal with you once.
04:10You can only make money from them that one time.
04:14We must never focus solely on immediate gains. We need to learn to reap crops over the long term.
04:22Not pull everything up by the roots. Level three is win-win negotiation,
04:26where both sides cooperate and make concessions so each benefits.
04:32You don't get the maximum profit, but at least there's still a gain,
04:36and you can build a lasting partnership.
04:40This kind of business can endure indefinitely.
04:44Every business person should at least reach this level.
04:48And level four is dominant negotiation.
04:51This level determines whether you can become truly successful.
04:54The highest realm of negotiation is making the other party feel they've won.
05:00Leading them to think we're the ones who've actually sacrificed.
05:05At this level, Lee Koshin is our archetype.
05:10It's why he could grow such vast enterprises.
05:13In every deal, he was willing to take slightly less, giving others a bit more profit.
05:18He taught his son, when you cooperate with someone,
05:23if taking seven parts is reasonable, or even eight, then our Lee family can do with just six.
05:31Do you understand?
05:33It's incredibly wise.
05:36Think about it, who wouldn't want to partner with you?
05:40Then the power of choice is in your hands.
05:43Whenever Lee Koshin launched a project, he could pick the most trustworthy partner.
05:50You must understand that business can fail, and profit sharing is like buying insurance.
05:56You earn a little less up front, but you ensure the project runs smoothly,
06:02your success odds rise, and your start-up risks fall.
06:06Plus, it fosters long-term cooperation.
06:10Others see you as honourable and love doing business with you.
06:16This is the highest realm of negotiation.
06:19Before learning any techniques, you must internalise this concept and aim for it in every negotiation.
06:26Truly skilled negotiators always operate this way.
06:31Next, let's move on to tactics.
06:34Secrets of Power Negotiating tells us there are two principles to follow during negotiation.
06:41Principle 1. Learn to bite off more than a lion.
06:45Dare to make bold demands.
06:48Your success in negotiation truly depends on whether you have the courage to ask.
06:54This is the most basic negotiation trait.
06:58In fact, many people do it instinctively, especially great mothers.
07:04We commonly call this action haggling.
07:07I remember when I was little, my mother took me to buy a toy priced at 100,000 Vietnamese
07:13dongs, and she haggled it down to 50,000 Vietnamese dongs.
07:19I was stunned.
07:21For a long time after, whenever I wanted to buy something, I'd ask my mother to come along
07:27because I was afraid shopkeepers would rip me off.
07:30But when I grew up, I realised it wasn't the shopkeepers cheating me, my mother was a master
07:37negotiator.
07:39All my negotiation foundations came from her.
07:44Remember, your opening offer must be higher than your true target.
07:48For example, if a toy costs 100,000 Vietnamese dongs and your goal is 50,000 Vietnamese dongs,
07:57you might start at 30,000 Vietnamese dongs.
08:02Look at how Trump employs tariffs and how most countries, including Vietnam, respond to them.
08:09You'll see why.
08:10Secrets of Power Negotiating points out several benefits of this approach.
08:15First, the other party might accept your terms outright.
08:21Don't think that's outrageous, maybe the toy cost only 10,000 Vietnamese dongs to make,
08:27which you don't know, and the shopkeeper still makes a hefty profit.
08:33Second, it creates negotiation room, the owner might counter at 60,000 Vietnamese dongs,
08:40and after some back and forth, you settle at 50,000 Vietnamese dongs.
08:47Third, it gives the other party a sense of victory.
08:51After negotiations, making the other party feel they've won is crucial.
08:58For example, the toy shop owner might have believed you valued the toy at 30,000 Vietnamese dongs.
09:05Selling it to you at 50,000 Vietnamese dongs feels like a gain of 20,000 Vietnamese dongs,
09:13so they forget that the initial price was slashed in half.
09:17From the moment you offered 30,000 Vietnamese dongs,
09:21they internalized that value, in other words, you've taken control of their psychology.
09:27An uncertain person will no longer believe the toy is worth 100,000 Vietnamese dongs,
09:35they may even feel their own opening price was excessive.
09:40In reality, you save half the cost.
09:44However, you must subtly signal that negotiation is possible,
09:48otherwise, they might walk away, leaving no chance to negotiate.
09:52If you reverse the scenario, the logic remains the same.
09:59Suppose you're the toy shop owner with a 10,000 Vietnamese dongs cost,
10:04you could price it at 100,000 Vietnamese dongs or more.
10:10Remember, the value of anything is what you set it to be.
10:14Whatever you deem it worth is its price.
10:17You just need to provide a reasonable justification for that price
10:22and persuade others to believe in the product's value.
10:26That's the essence, which I'll explain further later,
10:29so our mothers are living proof that negotiation masters are forged in everyday life,
10:35and we should truly respect them.
10:38Principle 2
10:39Never accept the first price the other party offers.
10:42Think about it, when you go to buy a watch and the salesperson quotes 1,000,000 Vietnamese dongs,
10:50you ask if 900,000 Vietnamese dongs is possible.
10:55If they immediately agree to 900,000 Vietnamese dongs, what do you think?
11:02Do you feel you've won big?
11:05Of course not.
11:06You'll think, if I'd known, I should have asked for 800,000 Vietnamese dongs.
11:14See, even if they quickly agree, you don't feel happy, in fact, you feel a bit cheated.
11:22You believe their initial price wasn't honest, that they were inflating it.
11:27This might even make you abandon the purchase, I do the same in business.
11:32When a client gives an initial quote or proposal, I seldom accept it right away.
11:40I understand human nature.
11:43It's counterintuitive.
11:46You may genuinely be ready to accept their first price, but sorry, they won't appreciate it.
11:52They'll think your product can be even cheaper, so what you do is feign awkwardness, act surprised,
12:00and perhaps even raise your own price a bit.
12:03This makes the customer feel they've successfully squeezed every last dong out of you,
12:09while you actually sell at a higher price.
12:12This is negotiation at its peak, making a sale while the other party happily counts your money.
12:19Of course, if any of my clients watch this video, please don't take it personally, it's just an analogy.
12:28In the end, we still make money together, why act surprised?
12:33Because when you show genuine astonishment at their price,
12:37they'll unconsciously lower it for you.
12:41Imagine strolling with your partner, seeing a gift you want to buy for them.
12:46If you find the price steep but your partner says it's reasonable,
12:51then no matter how much you haggle, the seller won't budge,
12:54they know you're willing to pay that price, actually,
12:58from the start they don't expect you to accept the first price.
13:03If you don't act surprised, they have no reason to give you a discount.
13:08Now you've learned both method and skill.
13:10Next, I'll share one invaluable negotiation mindset,
13:16the most valuable part of this entire video.
13:20It's something I realized through business,
13:23and I've never even shared it in our company's internal training.
13:27Listen carefully, if you grasp this,
13:31your negotiation ability will reach a whole new level,
13:34and you'll be able to get what you want through negotiation.
13:37Remember, negotiation requires cards, trump cards.
13:43But you don't actually have to own them,
13:46you just need to know how to show them.
13:49Often, the outcome is decided before negotiations even begin.
13:55If you hold something your counterpart needs,
13:57you control the negotiation.
14:00You can set any terms.
14:02Therefore, before entering, ask yourself,
14:07does your counterpart need you more,
14:09or do you need them more?
14:12What if you don't have what they need?
14:15Here's the key.
14:16It doesn't matter whether you truly hold the card.
14:19What matters is whether the other person believes you do.
14:23This wisdom comes from Yuga Liang.
14:27We've all heard the empty-fought strategy, right?
14:30When Saimiye led his troops to attack Xu,
14:35Yuga Liang, knowing he was outnumbered,
14:38sat calmly on the city walls playing his lute with the gates wide open.
14:43Logically, Saimiye could have attacked and wiped out Xu immediately,
14:48but he was convinced Yuga Liang was cautious and had laid a trap.
14:53Fearful of risk, he retreated,
14:55so I believe the pinnacle of negotiation is making your counterpart negotiate with their own perception.
15:03If they believe you possess something, the effect is as if you truly do.
15:08That's why in my previous videos on the law of attraction,
15:12I always say that if you want to become wealthy, you must believe you already are.
15:17Because we are essentially negotiating with our own subconscious.
15:23When you make your subconscious believe you are a certain way, you become that way.
15:29Yuga Liang surely used the law of attraction.
15:33He believed millions of soldiers guarded the city,
15:36and the result was as if millions truly were there.
15:39But you must believe it completely, without a shred of doubt.
15:43Indeed, the universe's law of attraction applies to everything.
15:50If you're interested, feel free to revisit my earlier videos.
15:54Moreover, many linguistic skills in negotiation rely on our logical thinking.
16:01Now I won't go on at length, I've summarized a few key phrasing templates.
16:07In negotiations, just apply these templates in your speech.
16:11Please listen patiently, first, when speaking, state your needs before proposing your exchange terms.
16:21Never do the opposite, never reveal your cards before stating your needs.
16:27I have a friend in business who needed to collect an outstanding debt from a client
16:32whose own business was struggling and unable to pay.
16:35He asked me to accompany him because he, too, was short on working capital and would take whatever he could get.
16:44We sat in the client's office and talked for a while.
16:49My friend's gaze never left the client's watch, it was a very expensive piece.
16:55Then he said, I'll waive the remaining debt this time.
16:58I know you're in a tough spot.
17:02Could you give me that watch instead to settle the debt?
17:06Can you guess whether the client agreed?
17:09Of course not.
17:11Do you know where my friend went wrong?
17:15It was his phrasing.
17:17He revealed his card before stating his need.
17:20The client knew my friend was willing to forego the debt and used that as leverage.
17:27The negotiation power shifted entirely to the client, who could set the terms.
17:33Simply put, if you lay your intentions bare, why should anyone agree to your demands?
17:40It's like when a woman says to her partner, I'll marry you, but you must buy me a diamond ring.
17:46You think she's agreed, so buying the ring is your decision.
17:52But if she says, if you buy me a diamond ring, I'll consider marrying you, it feels entirely different.
17:59Therefore, in a direct exchange, never reveal your cards first.
18:05People naturally like to play their hand openly to seem honest,
18:09but doing so only puts you on the back foot in negotiation.
18:13When we returned, I explained this principle to my friend.
18:18I told him that if he still couldn't collect the debt next time, he might say,
18:24If you give me the watch, I'll consider waiving the debt this time.
18:30On paper, I lose out, but let's call it cementing our friendship.
18:35Sure enough, once he used that phrasing, he almost always got what he wanted.
18:40See?
18:43You must clearly state what you want before revealing your conditional card.
18:48Negotiations by direct exchange like this definitely have a higher success rate.
18:54But that still isn't enough.
18:56There's one more mindset principle that can elevate your success rate yet another level.
19:02If you want to negotiate with someone, you must master threat style phrasing, not flattery style.
19:08Because threat style phrasing not only raises your success rate, but also puts you in an invincible position.
19:17First, what is flattery style phrasing?
19:21It's simple.
19:22I'll give you an example you'll instantly understand.
19:27Suppose you say to your child,
19:29If you score 100, we'll take you to the park.
19:33That's flattery style.
19:35If you do A, we'll give you B.
19:37Now think in reverse.
19:40If the child doesn't do A, does it mean they won't get B?
19:45Not necessarily.
19:47Not scoring 100 doesn't mean you won't go to the park.
19:51Here's another example.
19:53You haggle with a toy shop owner and say,
19:56If you give me a cheaper price, I'll buy this toy.
19:59But if they don't lower the price, will you definitely not buy?
20:05In the end, you probably buy anyway because your child absolutely loves it.
20:11Do you get it?
20:12So what is threat style phrasing?
20:15Equally simple, if you don't do A.
20:18I won't give you B.
20:22Using the old example, you'd say to your child,
20:25If you don't score 100, we won't take you to the park.
20:30When the child thinks in reverse, if I do score 100, will they take me?
20:35You can say, I never said that.
20:40See?
20:41The power is yours.
20:44With this phrasing, you can backtrack without being at fault.
20:48One more example.
20:50You say to the toy shop owner,
20:52If you don't drop the price, I won't buy.
20:56If he asks,
20:57But if I do drop it, will you buy?
20:59You can honestly say,
21:02I'm not sure.
21:04You're only hearing that if you don't cut the price.
21:08I won't buy.
21:10Now do you see the difference between flattery and threat phrasing?
21:14Recently, China has faced tariffs as high as 245% on goods exported to the US in retaliation,
21:23and President Trump has threatened an additional 50% tariff on China
21:27if Beijing doesn't roll back its 34% retaliatory duties.
21:33Why didn't Trump simply say,
21:35If China doesn't retaliate, we won't add more tariffs?
21:39However, not every situation suits threat-style phrasing.
21:44If the other party holds a much bigger card and you're already weak,
21:49these tactics won't help.
21:50For instance, if someone is trying to rob or kidnap you,
21:55don't foolishly try to negotiate.
21:58Your life is in their hands,
22:00and staying alive is the top priority.
22:04Don't be stupid enough to think you can bargain then.
22:07I know many still feel negotiation is difficult and complex,
22:11even considering giving up on entrepreneurship.
22:15Indeed, any skill requires practice to master.
22:18Also, don't think negotiation is only about talking,
22:23the best negotiators aren't those who speak well but those who listen well.
22:29Listening lets you gather information from the other party and protect your own resources.
22:34Thus, negotiation is essentially an innate skill everyone has,
22:40but its level determines whether you become rich or poor and whether you succeed in life.
22:45Secrets of power negotiating may not be an exaggeration.
22:49It truly changed my life.
22:52Its value is confirmed by multiple you.
22:55S presidents, like Clinton and Trump, who have both praised it highly.
23:02Author Roger Dawson is recognized as one of the world's top negotiators today.
23:08Therefore, I recommend that once you've watched this video,
23:12you also read Hold the High Ground at the negotiation table.
23:16And don't just read it once, I keep reading money-making books until I'm fed up.
23:23Maybe that's one little secret that helps me make money.
23:28I hope you soon earn your first capital and see your own results.
23:33Time is short, so I'll end here.
