00:01May it please your majesty, the House of Commons has elected me their speaker,
00:07though I am but little able to fulfill the important duties thus assigned to me.
00:13If in the performance of those duties I should at any time fall into error,
00:18I pray that the fault may be imputed to me.
00:21This is my 20th visit to Canada, spread over the course of more than half a century,
00:28and my first as sovereign.
00:33As I have said before, every time I come to Canada,
00:38a little more of Canada seeps into my bloodstream, and from there, straight to my heart.
00:45It has been nearly 70 years since the sovereign first opened Parliament.
00:51In the time since, Canada has dramatically changed,
00:55repatriating its constitution, achieving full independence, and witnessing immense growth.
01:05Canada has embraced its British, French, and indigenous roots,
01:10and become a bold, ambitious, innovative country that is bilingual,
01:18truly multicultural, and committed to reconciliation.
01:21Today, Canada faces another critical moment.
01:27Democracy, pluralism, the rule of law, self-determination, and freedom
01:34are values which Canadians hold dear,
01:38and ones which the government is determined to protect.
01:42As the anthem reminds us,
01:45the true north is indeed strong and free.
01:48Today we are becoming a host of Canada to Canada .
