00:00It's all a smile for him. Couldn't quite believe it.
00:13Yeah, waiting for this big moment.
00:22Just closes his eyes briefly there to take it all in and Carlos Verona steps out onto the podium
00:27in front of a big big crowd here at Asiago as a grand tour stage winner at last. He actually
00:34finished in second place on the stage of the Vuelta a few years ago. I say a few years ago,
00:38it's four years ago and that's as close as he's ever come. But he dominated that. That wasn't even
00:43close. Yeah, there was no doubt that he was the strongest among the riders on the breakaway and
00:50he wrote perfection today. So chapeau to him. One of my favorite quotes from that lovely
00:55interview he just gave us was, I'm actually rather slow. I'm not very fast, he said.
01:01I think he meant in a sprint. Yeah, that's what he meant, definitely.
01:04He had to get clear of everyone and boy, did he get clear of everyone.
01:10Think of the riders he held off. Filippo Zana, a former stage
01:14winner at the Giro d'Italia, former national champion and one of the most promising names
01:18in as a young rider in Italian cycling at the moment, Giancarlo Garofoli. She gets soaked with the
01:26sparkling wine as well. That's going to taste very good.
01:43The bottle being handed down.
01:51Taken back to the hotel.
01:57Souvenirs of the day, really.
02:00Absolutely fantastic memories banked here by Carlos Weronov.
02:03All right, well deserved. So once again, Little Trek on the first one appearing at the ceremony,
02:14as they get the sixth victory of this Giro d'Italia out of 15 stages.
02:18Absolutely dominating the prize fund as well on the Little Trek. They're winning so much prize money.
02:23It's going to be, it's going to be changed the classification of pricing money just at the very
02:30hand, thanks to the GC. But so far, some of the mechanics will retire at the end of the race.
02:40Fantastic performance from Carlos Weronov and what a race they're having.
02:45Easing up as he crossed the line and Florian Stork from Tudor Pro Cycling, that's their pretty much their best
03:04result of the Giro so far. Second place on their stage. We didn't see the moment where he attacked,
03:08but he obviously went long and held off a one second advantage over the the sprint for third place.
03:15That was one usefully for Astana in their hunt for UCI points by their rider Christian Scaroni,
03:22who's having a good 20-25 and a third place on that stage of the Giro d'Italia helps their cause enormously.
03:28I don't know whether to call today a missed chance for Isaac Del Toro to extend the lead. Okay,
03:37it would have been just bonuses. So I don't know if it's a very scenic way of riding UAE team Emirates,
03:43but it could have been a good day for a stage victory for Isaac Del Toro. But if, by the looks of it,
03:50I think next week you're going to have plenty of choices. I think he's going to win a stage before the end.
03:55It's very likely to happen. It's not as certain as Texas. He looks, on the evidence of what we saw
04:04today, he looks frankly in a slightly different league from everybody else. I mean, it remains to be
04:11seen. It's a long way still and we talk about the third week for good reason because the Giro d'Italia
04:16has a long tradition of upsetting everything in the third week. It happens often at the Giro d'Italia.
04:22Yeah, the only, like, unpredictable thing that we could expect from Isaac Del Toro is that
04:30there weren't many climbs so far in this Giro d'Italia, but it seems like the other riders were
04:37feeling even those little climbs while he definitely didn't.
04:42He picks everything once again and Chao is going to come back in about a few minutes for the
04:54white jersey as well.
04:57But definitely he goes on this for the second rest day with the Maglia Rosa as he took it
05:04in Siena, which seems like ages ago, but in fact it was just a week ago.
05:12He is riding like a Grand Tour champion, isn't he? He's being economical, he's being very,
05:16he's being, despite his obvious talent and his, if he wanted to, you would imagine he would have won
05:22stages by now, but he's just keeping his powder dry in the knowledge that when he deploys them,
05:28he's going to have to really make it count.
05:30Yeah, it seems like to me that he just was more stopping and preventing the other to go clear
05:37rather than try to get himself in a possibility or in a position to get a victory.
05:42But he leads Primoz Roglic by almost four minutes now, and Primoz Roglic drops down to 10th place.
05:49Still a short GC classification, but this is going to change and by a lot in the next week.
05:57Yeah, I'm already knowing that some of my rest day preparation, I'm going to have to start looking
06:03through the road book and actually totting up the amount of points that could go to the general
06:07classification and whether or not Lorenzo Fortunato soon, even on Tuesday, could be in a potentially
06:15King of the mountains winning position. Plenty of points available still, but you have to figure
06:19out which of them will go to the breakaway and which will go to the GC and how many more he
06:24might need to bank before it's done. And I reckon he's pretty close now.
06:28Yeah, but for now he can enjoy another day in Jersey. It's going to go also in the next
06:36rest day with this jersey.
06:38It's a good day for Astana really, isn't it? Third place for Christian Scaroni on the stage,
06:42hatfuls of UCI points for that and this man's grip on the King of the mountains jersey,
06:47tightening with every passing stage.
06:49He did race very good today, very smart, I would say. He just spent energy on basically
06:57on the climb of Monte Grappa and then he's called it the day. So, so far so good for Fortunato.
07:05Could benefit also from presence of a little bit embarrassed girlfriend.
07:08He's delivering the goods for Astana is Lorenzo Fortunato.
07:23The team is still still missing the victory, but they're not far. Today they were present with four
07:28guys, four riders in the first group, but it was not a good day for or not a good break for the GC
07:36as they all got back together at the very end of Monte Grappa and then reopening up with
07:45another breakaway of 11 riders containing the winner of today, Carlos Verona.
07:53There we are. His lead is now, what is it, 143.
08:01Is that right? Yes, that is right. 143 he leads over Juan Ayuso.
08:04It's a big one. Manuel Tarotti is the only non-GC rider, even in, even in, well, he's not even in
08:12touching distance, so it's a big, big lead.
08:14So now back with Maglia Bianca, the white jersey of the best young rider.
08:23We're doing the jersey slightly out of order today, aren't we? Because
08:26Maz Pedersen would normally have been the second jersey in the Manalicic Climino.
08:29Yeah, but he has yet to cross the line, so I wonder if we're going to see it or not,
08:33the ceremony. There's going to be some time for interview, definitely.
08:50Just a few signs today that his nearest rival in the general classification and indeed in the
09:05white jersey competition, his teammate. So I don't know if we can call him a rival at all.
09:09Juan Ayuso was a little bit uncomfortable. I think it was certainly a moment that was spotted by Simon
09:15Yates, who sees, I think, the battle for second place. If he's, if he's got ambitions on first,
09:24I don't know, but Simon Yates wants to shore up his position in second place, and I think he spotted
09:28a momentary weakness from Juan Ayuso, which prompted him to attack.
09:32Yeah, we've seen a little bit of a grim on the face of Ayuso and thing we felt to spot, to see on the
09:41face of Isaac de Tolo so far. Seems like he never really was in pain, except probably just for the
09:46finish line in Siena.
09:51Well, that's, uh, it's one of my favorite parts of the day, actually, hearing every day, as we do,
09:55from the ebullient.
