Messages described accused’s husband as ‘deadbeat’ read in court

Messages and images found on devices seized from Erin Patterson's home have been shown to the jury in her murder trial, revealing frustrations with her estranged ex-husband and his family.

00:09They're about her estranged husband Simon as well as his family.

00:12One message shown to the jury reads,

00:15His mum was horrified I had claimed child support.

00:18Why isn't she horrified her son is such a deadbeat that I had no choice but to claim?

00:23The court has previously heard there had been disagreements between Erin and Simon Patterson over child support.

00:28Earlier in the trial, Mr Patterson said the pair's relationship had become strained.

00:34He said in late 2022, Ms Patterson was upset.

00:37He had listed himself as separated on his tax return for the first time.

00:41Images found on other devices from Ms Patterson's home showed dried mushrooms on a tray as well as images of information about cancer.

00:50The court has previously heard Ms Patterson told her husband's family she had cancer, which her defence concedes wasn't true.

00:58A report produced from another seized phone showed it had undergone a factory reset four times.

01:04Erin Patterson has pleaded not guilty to all charges against her.

01:08Her defence says she did not deliberately poison her guests.
