00:00What if I told you the next world war could be fought in space and Donald Trump wants
00:05to build a billion-dollar dome to stop it?
00:09This isn't science fiction.
00:10This is Trump's golden dome plan and is the boldest defense proposal in US history.
00:16Imagine a dome not just over a city or a country but over an entire nation, a high-tech billion-dollar
00:24barrier floating in orbit capable of stopping missiles from space, submarines, and foreign
00:32swats.
00:33Before they even touch US, former President Donald Trump has just unveiled what may be the
00:39most ambitious and controversial defense project in American history, a $175 billion zero-cents
00:49initiative.
00:50To construct what he calls the Golden Dome, a space-based missile defense shield designed
00:56to intercept threats from across the globe and even beyond its speaking from the Oval
01:03Office, Trump declared that the Golden Dome will be capable of intercepting missiles even
01:10if they are launched from the other side of the world or from space.
01:14And here's the kicker, he wants it done before the end of his term.
01:19With $25 billion zero-cent earmarked to kick off construction in next year's budget, Trump
01:27is betting big on futuristic defense.
01:30At the heart of the plan, thousands of advanced satellites equipped with missile-sensing and
01:36missile-destroying technology forming a literal dome of deterrence above the Earth.
01:42If that sounds like science fiction, consider this.
01:46Elon Musk's SpaceX has already launched around 7,000 satellites into orbit for Internet service
01:53via Stalin.
01:55That kind of scale was unthinkable just a decade ago.
01:59But with reusable rockets and rapid deployment, the vision of a space-based defense grid no longer
02:05feels out of reach.
02:07Scientists like Tom Kuroko at the Center for Strategic and International Studies believe
02:12this kind of defense is long overdue, especially as the next major conflict may be fought, at
02:19least in part, above Earth's atmosphere.
02:22But critics aren't so sure.
02:25Laura Grego, a physicist with the Union of Concerned Scientists, warns that such a system could be
02:31overwhelmed by clustered missile launches, or worse, neutralized by enemy weapons targeting
02:38the satellites themselves.
02:40In fact, the U.S. recently accused Russia of exploring nuclear voids in orbit, something
02:46that could cripple any golden dome before it even activates, and the threats are evolving
02:52rapidly.
02:53The U.S. must now consider cruise missiles, hypersonic gliders, and exotic systems like
02:59fractional orbital bombardment, where weapons circle the Earth before striking from any angle.
03:06Defending against these advanced technologies would require lightning-fast space interceptors,
03:12capable of hitting targets just seconds after launch.
03:16That means launching thousands of satellites, not just for detection, but for response.
03:22The financial stakes are just as high.
03:25While Trump claims the project could cost $175 billion dollars zero cents over three years,
03:30the Congressional Budget Office estimates it could run anywhere from $161 billion dollars
03:36zero cents to over half a trillion dollars across two decades.
03:41Senator Sheehy, who is spearheading the so-called Golden Dome caucus, admits the total cost could
03:48balloon into the trillions if fully realized.
03:52History offers a cautionary tale.
03:55Back in 1983, President Ronald Reagan introduced the Strategic Defense Initiative, nicknamed Star Wars.
04:04Despite the bold vision, that program never came to fruition.
04:09Now critics like Grego urged lawmakers to ask tough questions before another expensive defense
04:17dream gets launched, only to crash down years later.
04:21So is the Golden Dome America's next great leap in defense, or a trillion dollar gamble on
04:29unproven tech?
04:31One thing is clear, in an age of rising global threats and space warfare on the horizon, Trump's
04:37missile defense dream has reignited a fierce debate about the future of American security.
04:43What do you think?
04:45Is the Golden Dome a visionary move to protect the homeland, or a dangerous distraction from
04:51more immediate threats?
