00:00We set out a goal to teach our dog seven new tricks in seven days.
00:03So far we have taught our dog selfie,
00:05selfie,
00:07roll,
00:08roll,
00:10yeah,
00:10wave,
00:12bang,
00:14bang,
00:14bang,
00:16bang,
00:17and guard.
00:20The trick Kobe's going to learn today, teach him how to bow.
00:23Kobe's actually on a hypoallergenic diet, because allergies,
00:27and we definitely need a high value reward for this trick.
00:30So, quick trip to the pet store,
00:32buy some hypoallergenic treats,
00:33and let's get into it.
00:34Teaching our good boy how to bow.
00:37This one looks very hard because he's so lazy.
00:40I don't think he's going to move much.
00:41Let's see how this goes.
00:43Come on.
00:44Good boy.
00:44All right, I'm just going to reward him for just being down there for now.
00:47Good boy.
00:49This is going to do for now.
00:50Good boy.
00:51So how do I get him to bow?
00:52Down, down, down.
00:54Don't tell him down.
00:55Down, down.
00:56Because he's going to try and lay down.
00:58Don't do that.
00:59Down, down.
01:00Don't do that.
01:01Oh, good boy.
01:02There you go.
01:03Good boy.
01:04Yes.
01:04Don't tell him down.
01:05Good boy.
01:07Stop telling him down.
01:08Well, it's working.
01:08It looks so awkward.
01:10Good boy.
01:11Don't tell him down because he's going to get confused.
01:14Maybe using other encouraging words.
01:15Do the trick.
01:16Do the trick.
01:17What do you mean, other encouraging words?
01:19Like, come on.
01:20Come on.
01:20Come on.
01:20Come on.
01:21Come on.
01:21Come on.
01:22Come on.
01:23Come on.
01:23Come on.
01:23Come on.
01:23Come on.
01:24Yes.
01:25Good boy.
01:25Oh, my God.
01:26I think I know what to do now.
01:28If I go back.
01:30Yes.
01:31Good boy.
01:32Oh, my God.
01:33He's actually so smart.
01:34You got a wacky tail.
01:36You got a wacky tail?
01:37I don't know.
01:38Yes.
01:39Good boy.
01:41We've been filming for about three minutes.
01:43You've been learning for three minutes.
01:44You're having a rest.
01:45I've realized when I put the treat sort of back into him, if I kind of make his head go
01:50down,
01:51then he naturally sort of does the hat.
01:54Think about it.
01:56Think about it.
01:57Yes.
01:58Oh, he was a good boy.
01:59He was a good boy.
02:00He was a good boy.
02:01Think about it.
02:02Yes.
02:03Good boy.
02:04Wait.
02:05Yes.
02:06Good boy.
02:07Oh, lazy boy.
02:10He's like, I cannot be bothered.
02:12You're very smart, aren't you?
02:13Bow.
02:15Bow.
02:16Yes.
02:17Good boy.
02:17So I want to get him to stop pouring at my hand.
02:20I don't want him to start thinking he needs to pour at my hand.
02:22Bow.
02:23Yes.
02:24Bow.
02:25Yes.
02:26Good boy.
02:27That was a good one.
02:28We have been training Kobe for about 20 minutes, so we let him have a little drink and break.
02:32Usually when we're recording these, we leave Moki upstairs.
02:34And as you can see, she has decided to destroy our bedroom.
02:39What's that?
02:40What's this?
02:41Moki.
02:42Hey.
02:43What's that?
02:44No.
02:45No.
02:45It should feel bad.
02:47Very bad.
02:47No.
02:48By the way, how good is Kobe the fact that I can leave these streets here and he doesn't
02:52actually go for them?
02:53If this was Moki, they'd be gone in literally five seconds.
02:57Look at me.
02:57So polite, isn't he?
02:59So at the moment, my arm is literally holding him up throughout the whole trick.
03:03I'm going to try and lower my arm, keep it here and try and get him to bow.
03:07So in other words, I'm not holding this up.
03:08He's sort of doing the initial part by himself, keeping his rear end up.
03:12Bow.
03:14Yes.
03:14Good boy.
03:15I'm just going to warm him back up again.
03:17Bow.
03:18Yes.
03:19Good boy.
03:20First time.
03:21Lower the arm.
03:22Bow.
03:24Bow.
03:24Yes.
03:26Good boy.
03:27He instinctively wants to actually lie down.
03:29Bow.
03:30Yeah.
03:31Oh, no, no, no.
03:32Bow.
03:33Yes.
03:34Very slow, isn't it?
03:36He's initially going down to the bow, which is good, but you can see he wants to lay down,
03:40but my arm is stopping him from being able to do it.
03:42Bow.
03:43Yes.
03:44Good boy.
03:45He's getting there.
03:46So Kobe's actually starting to understand it a little bit.
03:48So I'm going to put my arm even lower and just see what happens.
03:52Bow.
03:55Not much.
03:57What do you want?
03:58Huh?
04:00Do you want a treat for doing nothing?
04:02Yeah?
04:02Okay.
04:03There you go.
04:04No.
04:11I'm going to try and lower my arm even more than what I've been doing before.
04:16Yes.
04:17Bow.
04:19Yes.
04:20This is the first one that he's struggling with, isn't he?
04:23Bow.
04:25Yes.
04:26Good boy.
04:27So now the arm's just going to be here.
04:28Bow.
04:30Yes.
04:31Good boy.
04:32I mean, that was basically it, no?
04:33Kobe was slowly starting to get the trick, I think.
04:36It is a completely new movement for him.
04:38But anyway, we let Kobe have another rest, which of course, he was more than happy to.
04:4520 minutes later and we're back on it.
04:48Oh, come on.
04:49Yes.
04:50We're back to training.
04:51Come on.
04:52Good boy.
04:53Bow.
04:54Yes.
04:55What I'm going to do now is I'm going to tell him to bow.
04:57I'm going to say the command word, wait until he does it, pause for a bit, and then we'll
05:01all do it.
05:01Bow.
05:03Yes.
05:04Remember to say it before you do the movement.
05:07Bow.
05:11Yes.
05:13You could tell that Kobe was understanding what we wanted him to do, but just had that
05:17instinct to go down because that's what he'd been taught.
05:19Bow.
05:21Yes.
05:22Say it, then do it.
05:24Bow.
05:26Yes.
05:27Oh, yes.
05:27It's not Kobe that needs to train him, it's you.
05:29Bow.
05:31See?
05:32Yes.
05:33Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.
05:35Watch this.
05:36My hands.
05:37Bow.
05:39Yes.
05:40Bow, I'm going to have no treat in my hand, get him to do the trick, get him to go
05:43down,
05:44and then once he's completed it, then he gets a treat.
05:46Bow.
05:49Bow.
05:50Maybe too hardy for that, mum.
05:52Wait.
05:53Come, up, up, up.
05:54Bow.
05:59Yeah, too early for that.
06:00This had by far been the hardest trick we've taught him.
06:04He's learned all the tricks in the series in under a couple hours, but this one was proving
06:08tougher than we thought it would be.
06:09We brought Ella in to have a little go at training Kobe.
06:12He got too excited, and well, it wasn't going too well.
06:16Come, up, no.
06:17Up, up, up, up.
06:18Good boy.
06:19Wait, wait.
06:20No.
06:21Up.
06:21Bow.
06:23No.
06:24Up, up.
06:25You have to lift, Ella.
06:26You have to lift.
06:27Under him.
06:28Ready?
06:29Bow.
06:31No.
06:32That's literally down.
06:34That's literally down.
06:35Ready?
06:36Bow.
06:37No.
06:38Up, up.
06:38No.
06:39No.
06:39Up.
06:40No.
06:40Up.
06:42Up.
06:42No, you're laying on the tree.
06:45So I'm back in, repeating, repeating, and repeating.
06:49I thought this could be the first trick that Kobe wasn't actually able to complete.
06:53We've been recording for the whole day now, since this morning.
06:56We were running out of time to actually get this trick done.
06:59We also didn't want to overwork Kobe, so we let him take so many breaks.
07:03At this point, we'd been training Kobe for a few hours, so we wanted to take him out and
07:08clear his head.
07:09He then saw this massive puddle, and of course, ran straight for it.
07:20We felt like we hit a block.
07:22Kobe could get this part of the bow, but only when we guided his head down with a treat.
07:26So, I got back to another YouTube video to see how we could approach this in a different
07:29way.
07:30So, I've been watching a video, and now what we're going to do is, I'm going to, well,
07:34let me show you.
07:35I'm going to get him to smell the treat, guide him down, and when he shifts his weight back,
07:40if he shifts his weight back, yes, good boy.
07:44I'm going to reward him.
07:46Yes, good boy.
07:57Teaching the trick to Kobe in a new way seemed to start working.
08:00I guess it goes to show that if your dog just isn't getting it, try approaching the
08:04trick from a different angle.
08:05So we're breaking up the treats for Kobe, because he's going through the pack like it's
08:10nothing, and once this is done, Kobe's going to have a little rest, and then we're going
08:14to get back into it.
08:17Next step we're going to do is we're going to try and get him to go even further down
08:21when I'm bringing him down, because he's getting really good at understanding that he needs
08:25to bow, so now we just want him to understand that we want him to go even further down.
08:30Yes, good boy.
08:32Come up, up, up, yes, yes, good boy.
08:37So what we're aiming to do, guys, is to get his elbows here to touch the ground.
08:43Obviously, because he likes to lie down a lot.
08:48Yes, good boy, that was good.
08:50Now that Kobe was beginning to understand that we wanted his weight to be pushed back, and
08:55even doing the occasional bow, we repeated this over and over so that he could get a grasp
09:00on the move.
09:01This next step is we're going to guide him all the way down, try and get his elbows to
09:05touch, and actually throw the food forwards.
09:07The reason why is because if we guide him all the way down and his elbows touch, he naturally
09:11wants to lie down.
09:12But if we throw the food forwards, then he'll just get up from that bow position.
09:16Right, let's try it.
09:16Come, come on.
09:18Come on.
09:22Yes.
09:25Yeah, good boy.
09:28Yes.
09:29Yeah, good boy.
09:29Yes, come on.
09:30Good boy.
09:31Oh, he's quick.
09:32Good boy, come on.
09:34Repetition makes perfect.
09:38Come on.
09:39Yes.
09:41Yes.
09:43Good boy.
09:44He's now starting to understand that we don't want him to lay down.
09:48And throwing the treat forward stops him from getting in that position.
09:51Throwing the treat forward was really helping Kobe.
09:54It stopped him from lying down so much.
09:56I mean, occasionally he would, but that's okay.
09:58We don't expect perfect.
09:59Next step is I'm going to say the key word now, or the command word, which is bow.
10:04And then I'm going to lure the treat into Kobe like this.
10:08Because eventually I want to be able to just go like that and he's going to bow.
10:11I'm going to start luring him in like this to bring him down.
10:13And then hopefully he starts to understand that.
10:15And then I can slowly take that away and just say bow when he bows.
10:18Hopefully.
10:19Bow.
10:20Yes.
10:21Bow.
10:22Yes.
10:23Bow.
10:24Yes.
10:26Oh my God.
10:26He's getting it.
10:27Oh my God.
10:28Something's happening.
10:29Bow.
10:31Yes.
10:33To be honest, if his elbows don't hit the ground, I'm not too worried.
10:35It doesn't have to be perfect.
10:36As long as he...
10:37He's going to be so fat when we're done with this because he's literally eating whole
10:40bags of treats.
10:41We are breaking them up, but you need so many.
10:44Bow.
10:45Yes.
10:46All right.
10:47Let me try and not guide him as much and just see what happens.
10:49Bow.
10:50Yes.
10:51Good boy.
10:53Bow.
10:55Yes.
10:56Ah, damn.
10:57He nearly had it.
10:58I let him lie down.
10:59Bow.
11:00Yes.
11:02Did he lay down?
11:03Yeah.
11:03Damn it.
11:03I don't know who's bowing me or him.
11:05Bow.
11:08Yes.
11:09Just about missed it.
11:11He's really starting to understand it now.
11:12So what I'm going to do is when I get him into the bow position, I'm going to feed him
11:16a couple of treats so he doesn't go to get up straight away and then throw the next treat.
11:20Bow.
11:21Yes.
11:24Yes.
11:27Good boy.
11:28The idea behind this is that he understands that we want him to bow, but then I'm still
11:33throwing the treat forward so that he doesn't lay down.
11:36Bow.
11:37Yes.
11:39Yes.
11:40Yes.
11:41Good boy.
11:42We're going to try and get this wrapped up and see the best that we can get into bow.
11:47Bow.
11:49Yeah.
11:50Come, come, come, come.
11:51This is the one.
11:52Let's see.
11:53Bow.
11:54Yes.
11:55All right, guys.
11:56That is it.
11:57I think that's the best we can do within 24 hours.
12:00You did so good, Kobe.
12:01Oh, well done.
12:03You got it, kind of.
12:04I mean, it was a really hard trick to do, especially in 24 hours.
12:07It usually takes, you know, at least a few days of doing it.
12:09But we're super proud of you, boy.
12:12I'm sure he's going to rest for the whole day now.
12:15Good boy.
12:15Well done, Kobe.
12:17Right.
12:18For the last trick, we're going to be teaching Moki legs.
12:21I'm actually going to take the bag away from her because she's getting so excited.
12:25I'm just going to talk.
12:27Yeah, that's what happens when you're not sure you're food.
12:29I think you've got that.
12:32Oops.
12:32She spoke from today.
12:33I think that I'm going to go.
