The Trump administration has agreed to pay $5 million to Ashli Babbitt’s family, settling a $30 million wrongful death lawsuit. Babbitt, a Trump supporter and Air Force veteran, was fatally shot by Capitol Police during the January 6 Capitol riot. Though the officer was cleared of wrongdoing, Babbitt's family argued she was unarmed and received no warning. Trump has cast her as a martyr, while Capitol Police expressed disappointment, maintaining the officer acted in self-defense with no laws broken.
