An 18-year-old Georgia resident has been arrested after allegedly running toward the United States Capitol armed with a loaded shotgun. Authorities identified the suspect as Carter Camacho of Smyrna, Georgia. Investigators say he parked a white Mercedes SUV near the Capitol grounds on February 17, 2026, exited the vehicle, and began moving toward the west side of the building while carrying the weapon.

Officers from the United States Capitol Police quickly intercepted him before he reached the building. Police say Camacho immediately complied with commands to drop the weapon. No shots were fired, no injuries were reported, and officials confirmed there is no ongoing threat.

Authorities later discovered additional ammunition, a Kevlar helmet, and a gas mask inside the vehicle. Camacho now faces multiple firearm-related charges as investigators continue working to determine a motive. Officials say he had no known criminal record and was not previously on the radar of Capitol Police.

00:38as Carter Camacho, a resident of Smyrna, Georgia, a suburb in the metro Atlanta area. On February 17,
00:462026, Camacho drove a white Mercedes SUV near the Capitol grounds. According to investigators,
00:53he parked the vehicle, stepped out, and then ran toward the west side of the building.
00:59He was not empty-handed. Police say he was carrying a loaded shotgun.
01:05So just afternoon today, a gentleman parked in the 100 block of Maryland Avenue in a white
01:13Mercedes SUV. He exited the vehicle. He exited the vehicle with a shotgun and began running
01:20towards the Capitol up the walkway just behind me. He was also wearing a tactical vest and gloves.
01:26And inside the vehicle, officers later discovered a Kevlar helmet and a gas mask. Let that sink in.
01:33A shotgun, extra ammunition, protective gear, all within steps of one of the most heavily guarded
01:40buildings in the country. But here is where the story takes a critical turn. Officers with the United
01:47States Capitol Police moved quickly. They intercepted Camacho before he could reach the building.
01:53They ordered him to drop the weapon, and he complied immediately. No shots were fired.
01:59No one was injured. No breach occurred. Camacho was arrested on the spot. He now faces multiple charges,
02:06including unlawful activities, carrying a rifle without a license, possession of an unregistered firearm,
02:13and unregistered ammunition. Authorities say there is no ongoing threat. They also confirmed there are
02:19no other suspects. This appears to have been a single individual incident. But the big question remains,
02:25why? So far, investigators have not released any details about a motive. The case is being handled by
02:32the Capitol Police Threat Assessment Section, and at this stage, officials are tight-lipped.
02:38What we also know is what didn't exist. Camacho was not previously known to Capitol Police.
02:44No prior threats. No publicly disclosed criminal record. No indication, at least so far,
02:50of past interactions with law enforcement related to security concerns. Even the vehicle he drove,
02:56the white Mercedes SUV, was reportedly not registered in his name. Details about his background,
03:01his education, family, employment, or possible online activity, have not been made public.
03:07This is still a developing story, and investigators are now working to piece together a clearer picture.
03:13What led an 18-year-old from the Atlanta suburbs to arrive at the steps of the U.S. Capitol,
03:18armed and equipped
03:19the way he was? For now, what stands out is this. The response was swift, the situation was contained,
03:26and a potentially dangerous scenario ended without bloodshed. But the questions about motive, intent,
03:32and preparation, and preparation are only just beginning. Subscribe to One India and never miss an update.
