00:00Ever wondered what inside that black briefcase the Prime Minister's Special Protection Group
00:04bodyguards are always carrying? Many speculate that it contains India's nuclear launch codes,
00:08a mobile kit that allows the PM to launch the country's nuclear arsenal from anywhere.
00:13Well, not quite. But what's actually inside is pretty cool too.
00:20The briefcase is a folding ballistic shield. Once unstrapped, it folds out into a human-length
00:26bulletproof barrier. It's a portable defense tool used by close protection teams like the SPG to
00:31shield the protectee, in this case the Prime Minister, if bullets start flying at close range.
00:35So where does the myth of a nuclear briefcase come from? It probably stems from the United States,
00:40where the President is always accompanied by a military aide carrying a large black case known
00:45as the Presidential Emergency Sagittal, more famously called the Nuclear Football. That highly secretive
00:51briefcase is believed to contain everything the US President would need to communicate with the
00:55country's military command and authorize a nuclear strike. Back home in India, the Prime Minister
01:00likely has a secure base to connect with the country's nuclear command whenever needed.
01:03But the SPG's black briefcase, that really is not the trigger.
