FBI: Palm Springs Explosion Is 'Probably The Largest Bombing Scene We've Had In Southern California'

On Sunday, FBI officials and Palm Springs law enforcement held a press briefing to provide updates on the explosion that occurred outside a fertility clinic on Saturday.

00:00To clarify, you said the person who died in this explosion is Mr. Barkas.

00:05Is Mr. Barkas who you believe made this bomb and detonated it?

00:10Yeah, so that's nuanced there.

00:11So we are fairly confident that Mr. Barkas is our primary suspect person of interest.

00:19We are working through some other technical means to positively identify the decedent here.

00:25But we believe, at this moment, based on the evidence that we've gathered, that that is Mr. Barkas as the decedent here.

00:51And so there's a lot there that's still under investigation.

00:55What I can say is this is probably the largest bombing scene that we've had in Southern California.

01:00This does eclipse the bombing matter in the Liso Viejo.

01:05And just for reference, to throw pieces of vehicle hundreds of feet in the air and then several blocks away,

01:12you can use your imagine to imagine how big that bomb device was.

01:16Was this individual able to buy the products online?

01:20Was he...

01:21Did he have to use a special license, military grade?

01:24How did he obtain the materials for the device?

01:27And so that information is still part of our investigation in order to protect the integrity of it.

01:31I'm not going to comment on the how and the why yet.
