00:00every single thing that has been launched in the sports betting universe has been launched around
00:05something. It's been the NFL, college football, March Madness. So I did find it a little odd
00:12that the state of Missouri announced that sports betting will launch on December
00:16the 1st. I'm not really sure how they landed on that date. According to the quote that I read,
00:22it was just basically that's the soonest that they could get it going. So I'll need a little
00:26bit more on that. Yeah, exactly. Craig, whenever you look at the sports calendar, you can always
00:31pick different events. I mean, if you want to make the case for December 1st, it's right around the
00:35NFL playoffs. So there'll be a lot of action around then. But yeah, most states want to get sports
00:41betting usually launched either before March Madness, right before the Super Bowl, or the start
00:45of football season. For Missouri, when they legalized sports betting at the ballot a few years ago,
00:51there was this clause that was good that they put in there where they had to have it
00:55no later than December 1st. Originally, they wanted to have it earlier, it actually was supposed to
01:01potentially go live in May, which would have been, you know, good, because it's, you know, a lot of
01:06sports going on now. And then it's definitely ahead of football season. As always with this stuff,
01:11it's the bureaucratic process, which delays it. The Gaming Commission has yet to actually go through
01:16all the paperwork and all the procedures they need to do where they open up the license process,
01:22they do background checks on companies, they then review their applications, they decide,
01:27you know, whether everything's going to work or not, all that stuff. There was actually one senator who
01:32had been a big thorn in the side of people trying to get sports betting legalized in Missouri named
01:37Denny Hoskins, which I think we've talked about on this show several times. Oh, yeah. Lo and behold,
01:41he was actually the one that got the date delayed where he said he didn't think that, you know,
01:46this was enough time for the commission to go through all these procedures to get sports betting
01:52live and up and running. So that's why we had the December 1st launch. Now, the application process
01:59has just opened for these companies. So you'll have two that can get licenses through the state
02:04of Missouri itself. And you'll have about 13 applications ready for brands that want to partner
02:11with any of the state's riverboat casinos. And then the state sports teams as well, will be able
02:16to have licenses. So you could have more than 20 sports books. So it's good, good for the market,
02:21good for the betters themselves. You know, I just came from Florida where you are, where there's only
02:26one sports book in town, and everyone knows how frustrating that is. So even though there is a delay,
02:30it's going to be a good market, it'll only be about a 10% tax rate, at least right now, you never know,
02:35those things can always get changed as we're seeing. So you're gonna have to wait a little bit if you're in
02:39Missouri. But the good news is you do have a launch date. And it is before some, you know,
02:43big NFL games, some big playoffs. So I imagine the appetite will only be ramping up more and more,
02:48especially throughout the football season. But yeah, you got the December 1st start date,
02:52if everything goes smoothly. So now we're just going to be watching and monitoring to see which
02:56companies are trying to get in and how the process goes for them.
