00:002014, what a season.
00:12The year began here on the streets of Adelaide.
00:1625 drivers, 5 manufacturers, we all started as equals.
00:20All aiming to be the 2014 champion.
00:24The start was extraordinary.
00:27And the battle is back on.
00:30The Adelaide fans will never forget this one.
00:33And Scott McLaughlin puts one on the champ.
00:36And Volvo into second on Daubou.
00:39Volvo back on the grid and very cool overnight.
00:43All the fans, you guys are playing the Volvo jokes, but I guess they're gone now.
00:47So just bucked her in first, gave her some gin.
00:50Yeah, Volvo.
00:53It's been an incredible year.
00:5614 different race winners.
00:587 different teams.
01:014 manufacturers.
01:03Mercedes-Benz win in the V8 supercars for Erebus Motorsport.
01:08And Lee Holdsworth drives into the history books.
01:12Benny loving every minute of it.
01:15A Moffat was one of 9 different pole sitters.
01:19Joey Dubb racking up the most of all time.
01:23Wing comes to the top.
01:25He moves to pole position number 58.
01:27And that's an all-time record.
01:29By season's end, we will have completed 2,155 laps.
01:34But these guys prove that the only one that counts is the last one.
01:39And Chas Mossman is going to make a very special name in history here.
01:43He is the winner of the Super Jeep Autobadness 1000.
01:49That's a champion, baby!
01:52Last to first.
01:54Who would have thought?
01:56Stories everywhere.
01:59Jason Bryant over and over and up and into the wall.
02:03The Holden Racing Team back in business.
02:06Garth Panda gasses up the Holden Racing Team Commodore and brings it home.
02:11Volvo breaking through.
02:13It's V for Volvo, it's V for victory.
02:16Gizzy in the rain, what a sight.
02:19Van Gisbergen, what a great drive.
02:22And the Enforcer back in full flight.
02:25I'd like to drag those guys down.
02:28Russell, it'll never be the same without your mate.
02:332014, it's been quite a year.
02:36And they've all been chasing this bloke.
02:40Wing Cup has been in a class of his own.
02:43Four championships in a row.
02:45Six in his career.
02:47He now stands alone the greatest of all time.
02:51And Australian motorsport will applaud Jamie Wing Cup.
02:55He goes into the record book.
02:57An extraordinary achievement.
03:00So this is it.
03:02The final race of the year on the streets of Sydney Olympic Park.
03:06And you can bet your house that these guys will fight every inch of the way to the chequered flag.
03:12Welcome to the Sydney NRMA 500.
03:16Live and free right here on Seven.
03:26What a location.
03:28It's a beautiful city famous for its harbour, its beaches, its national parks.
03:32Great lifestyle and weather.
03:34And as a place for a celebration, well, it's the best.
03:37And we have one last big race for the year coming up today.
03:41Of course, there was a bit of bash and tumble.
03:44And the skies opened last night.
03:46It was just remarkable.
03:47Mark Scaife and Neil Crompton.
03:48Look, Neil, we know this place is treacherous.
03:50But yesterday was something else.
03:51Yeah, hi, Brits.
03:52Hi, everybody.
03:53Remarkable, isn't it?
03:54You know, we threw all sorts of things at the problem yesterday.
03:56We had track complexity.
03:58We had water.
03:59And we had concrete.
04:00And yet, Jamie Wing Cup continues to prevail.
04:03I thought his start in that second race, particularly Scaife in his run, was very impressive.
04:07Afternoon.
04:08Yeah, hi, Crompton.
04:09Look, it was a great drive, wasn't it?
04:10It continues to deliver.
04:11It's been an unbelievable season again for Jamie Wing Cup.
04:14But what about this racetrack?
04:15That just never fails to deliver.
04:17We don't even need the rain.
04:18Let's have a look at the highlights.
04:19Because in qualifying, two of the biggest names in the sport fired in the fence at turn five.
04:24Marcus Ambrose, bang.
04:26Over 200 kilometers an hour there for the Xbox Falcon.
04:29And check this out.
04:31Craig Lowndes, totally sideways.
04:33And that has gone in very fast.
04:37Unbelievable job to get that car ready and back out there again yesterday.
04:41Look at the damage from car 888.
04:44And it was an interesting start, as you said, Crompton.
04:48That jump there was very good.
04:50He just got across the inside.
04:52And there was drama immediately for Jack Perkins, who got bumped.
04:56Then there was some drama for Mostad, who ran over those cones and got a drive-through penalty.
04:59And then Mark Winnerbottom.
05:02That left for second in the championship.
05:04Straight in the fence at turn one.
05:06And then the old rivalry of Marcus Ambrose and Russell Engle down Dawn Fraser Avenue.
05:11And Russell just got by the front of Marcus.
05:15And then Todd Kelly in the fence sideways.
05:18Comes back out.
05:19Scott Pye into the side of him.
05:21Both cars damaged.
05:22And Dick Johnson, one of the legends of our sport, looking on.
05:25And what a great battle with Slade and Winkup.
05:29This is race 36.
05:30Down the inside.
05:31Winkup at the end of Dawn Fraser Avenue.
05:34Gets that job done.
05:35And as you said, Crompton, he just continues to just not make mistakes and win races.
05:40Power-steer failure there for the E63 Mercedes-Benz.
05:43And Winkup up on two wheels.
05:46Wins race 36.
05:48And then the next start, Bright didn't get a jump that was good enough.
05:53And Jamie across the front of everybody in the end.
05:57Lowndes gave Ambrose a bump.
05:58Spins him around.
05:59And young Jack Perkins got caught up with that.
06:01The weather was coming.
06:02It was indeed.
06:03And we kept on talking about it.
06:04It got darker and darker.
06:06And in a perfect cue on timing, Winkup came in.
06:10Got onto those wet tyres at the ideal time.
06:12And then the heavens opened.
06:13It was unbelievably wet.
06:15Jane van Gisbergen on the way in.
06:17Also cutting across the snout of James Courtney.
06:20Now, David Wall was trapped on a slick tyre.
06:22That was a little drama for him.
06:23So he rotated and found the wall.
06:25It always had no visibility.
06:26Some of the cars were fogging up inside.
06:28There were rivers.
06:29In fact, it was pooling in the inside of the corners.
06:32And Adrian Burgess and Mark Dutton, former colleagues,
06:34they're having a discussion about it.
06:36So what happened was the Pettis Chrysler safety car took control of the field.
06:40And basically, we got to a point where the race could be finished.
06:43Four points were awarded.
06:44It was a wild afternoon on the streets of Sydney.
06:47So heading into the final race of 2014,
06:49here's a look at the championship standings at the moment.
06:52Jamie Wincup will be crowned champion this afternoon.
06:55That'll be a very special moment.
06:57But things hot up a little bit back from there.
06:58Mark Winterbottom desperately clinging on to second spot at the moment.
07:02Shane van Gisbergen and Craig Lowndes are coming at him.
07:05It is tight in the top ten.
07:09And beautiful images, sweeping shots over the coastline,
07:12looking towards the west from the eastern coast of Sydney.
07:16And Sydney Harbour, the Central Business District,
07:19and Sydney Harbour Bridge as we welcome our viewers around Australia
07:23and around the world.
07:25We cannot wait to get our final qualifying of the championship season
07:28underway for race number 38.
07:30And then we'll have a shootout.
07:32Let's get into the lane.
07:33Here's Rhianna.
07:34Boys, as you said, the championship is well and truly wrapped up.
07:37But the remaining spots are still up for grabs.
07:40There are eight guys vying for the top five spots.
07:43And one of those is this guy, Scotty McLaughlin.
07:46Now, he has an extra incentive heading into this qualifying session.
07:50The Armoural Pole Award was awarded to Jamie Winkup yesterday
07:54as a result of a countback.
07:56It was nine to ten in Jamie Winkup's favour.
07:59However, Paul Blair from Armoural has said if Scotty can grab a pole position
08:04in today's top ten shootout, he will give him $10,000 as a courtesy
08:09from Armoural just because it's been such an awesome battle
08:12for the Armoural Pole Position Award.
08:14Scotty, great incentive to grab a pole position today
08:16in today's top ten shootout.
08:19Well, I don't think we should be second-guessing at all just how tough
08:22this qualifying session is going to be we're going to embark on.
08:25We know the unpredictability that this circuit delivers.
08:28We've seen it year in and year out.
08:29In fact, I think we've had 37 safety cars in the 12 race starts we've had here.
08:35In yesterday's qualifying, we saw a red flag.
08:37In yesterday's race, we saw a red flag.
08:39This place continues to deliver.
08:41This afternoon will be no different.
08:42As these blokes go out here behind me, just remember that at the end
08:45of this qualifying, it will be tenths of seconds that will differentiate
08:50the front from the back of this field.
08:52Tenths of seconds.
08:53Have a look at these concrete walls.
08:54Think about the predictability, and I hope that gives you some context
08:58to just how tough this is.
09:01It's an incredibly different and complex racetrack, this one.
09:06I had the fortunate opportunity to drive around it a couple of years ago,
09:09and it's a real eye-opener.
09:10Because of the rise and fall in the road, here's our lineup this weekend.
09:13Sydney NRMA 500 entry list.
09:1526 cars, including the wild card of Marcus Ambrose,
09:18and several little things to look out for here.
09:20It'll be car 66 for Marcus.
09:22For those that weren't watching us in the coverage yesterday,
09:25he's in the Xbox Falcon, and you'll also see for this weekend
09:29only number 300 against the name of Lee Holdsworth,
09:32celebrating his 300th V8 supercar race start yesterday.
09:37A couple of other milestones also for both the Kelly boys.
09:40For both Todd and Rick yesterday, 450 and 400 V8 supercar starts apiece.
09:47This is your layout for Sydney Olympic Park.
09:50It's 3.42 kilometres, but it doesn't really do it justice
09:55when you see that diagram like that.
09:57As Neil said, it's got so much rise and fall, so much character.
10:00250 kilometres an hour down Australia Avenue,
10:03which is our main straight.
10:05So the sectors are depicted there in those colour codes.
10:08The last sector, very difficult little area by the train station.
10:12Full throttle for roughly 40-odd per cent of the lap.
10:16We're using hard tyres this weekend,
10:18so we have a qualifying session right now.
10:20We've got 11 in-car cameras covering all the action for you.
10:24Then we go to a top-10 shootout,
10:26and then we go to our final race of the Sydney NRMA 500,
10:31a 250km run this afternoon.
10:34So helmet colours have changed for Jamie as well,
10:36celebrating his sixth and a record championship for 2014.
10:41So there's gold on the helmet for the master,
10:43who yesterday added to his incredible tally.
10:45He's now moved on to 89 V8 supercar victories and 135 podiums.
10:51And that equals Craig Lowndes, who also sits on 135.
10:55And to put that in context, V8 supercar race wins.
10:58The owner of that at the moment is still Craig Lowndes with 97.
11:01Crawling towards an amazing 100 race victory.
11:05So Mark Scaife alongside me is the man that has 90.
11:08So understand the man on screen, win cup, has 89.
11:11He's just one away from the great Mark Scaife in terms of victories.
11:15It's an incredible story since 2007,
11:19stitching up the championship on six occasions
11:23and runner-up on a couple of occasions.
11:25He said earlier in the week at a function,
11:26the worst performance for him since 2007 is a runner-up position.
11:30So that's a bad year for Jamie Wincup at the moment.
11:32We are living in his era.
11:34Clearly his competitors don't like it.
11:36There are lots of fans that have got a point of view.
11:38But what's undeniable is the extraordinary success.
11:41And I kind of alluded to that when we looked at those highlights this morning, Mark,
11:44because there he was on the second row of the grid in the second race yesterday.
11:47I would have probably lost the house if I put a bet on it and said,
11:51look, he won't lead him out of the first corner.
11:52And somehow they're stringing together at Red Bull the things that matter.
11:56So step one, you've got to get off the line perfectly.
11:59He does that.
12:00No wheel spin, perfect drive.
12:03He finds the gap.
12:04Now, whether it's all luck or whether it's good management,
12:07it can't all be good luck.
12:09There's Marcus Ambrose, car number 66 this weekend.
12:12Paul D'Ambrose was in the Red Bull garage there before with Ludo Lacroix,
12:15the chief engineer at Red Bull Racing Australia.
12:18This man has come back from nine ultra-successful years in the USA,
12:23left Australia at the end of 2005 as a dual V8 supercar champion
12:27in 2003 and 2004.
12:29He also picked up a couple of runner-ups in a five-year stint
12:32in the championship.
12:33He was 18 year one, 2001.
12:36And his strike rate of race wins isn't very far away from Jamie Winkap's,
12:40oddly enough.
12:41He sits on around about 20%.
12:42So one in every five V8 supercar races for Marcus has resulted in a victory.
12:48And for Jamie, it's about one in every four.
12:50So he really made his mark.
12:52And it was something of a surprise when he packed his bags and went to the U.S.
12:55did Craftsman trucks, then Bush Series, then Nationwide,
12:58now six years in the Sprint Cup.
13:01He's won.
13:02He's had poles.
13:03He's had a heap of top tens.
13:05And yesterday was like going all the way through a game of stakes
13:08and runners back to the start for him.
13:10So he said to me, I have got a lot to learn.
13:13Brakes have been a challenge for him.
13:15He's had a little fiddle with the brake master cylinders this particular day
13:18to try and get more in tune with the brake feel of the car.
13:22We go back and find Jack Perkins here having his last run this weekend
13:25for Charlie Schwert Colt Racing.
13:27And that was a good lap.
13:28We were on board.
13:29Kromper, when you were talking about Marcus's record
13:31and his achievements, he actually got to position six.
13:34So that's the most competitive we've seen Marcus over the weekend.
13:41It's an unbelievable racetrack.
13:42Aaron Noonan just gave you this status.
13:44Over the last seven races, there have been seven different pole winners.
13:49So to get pole position at this place, very, very difficult for different teams.
13:54So as we go into the final part of 14 minutes of qualifying,
13:59stay with us for the Sydney NRMA 500.
14:08Back at Sydney Olympic Park and Armour All qualifying
14:11is well underway for this final race of the season.
14:14And remember, this just determines who gets a run in the top ten
14:17for the shootout to come.
14:18And then we've got 250 kilometres of racing this afternoon
14:21as Tim Slade on screen goes to the top on a one minute 28.9.
14:25And just at that moment, Robert Dahlgren has nosed the Volvo
14:29into the tyre barriers.
14:31Missed the braking.
14:33That's turn nine.
14:34Turn nine after the roller coaster.
14:39And here comes Will Davison.
14:40He's just backed it off there.
14:44He was up on those green boxes.
14:47Let's check this out.
14:48So this is Dahlgren over this little roller coaster.
14:52Made a comment on it and couldn't get it stopped
14:54and actually ended up running into the tyres quite heavily.
14:56That's gone in quite fast.
14:58Fortunately, it's a very slow corner.
15:00You come from 225 kilometres an hour to 60k.
15:06Had a little glimpse there of Will Davison,
15:08who yesterday grabbed a surprise pole in the Erebus Entry.
15:10That was great news.
15:11He's been a dual pole winner here in years gone by.
15:14As we go to David Reynolds now,
15:16who's also found form and got a podium yesterday
15:18for the first time since the Gold Coast Race 31 last year.
15:21He's teetering on the rear brake into nine.
15:24That was exactly where Dahlgren went in.
15:27And those green boxes look encouraging for David at the moment.
15:30So currently it's Slade who also grabbed a podium.
15:33Then Courtney, Clowns.
15:35And I didn't get to explain it in those highlights this morning.
15:37That was the rear brake chatter that you heard of Davey then
15:40coming round the railway station.
15:43Since Courtney was delayed in the pits yesterday
15:45when Van Gisbergen swiped across the front of the car
15:47and dislodged a loose wheel,
15:49which they had to then retrieve and put back on the car,
15:51he lost track position.
15:53Car number 222 now, Nick Percat on screen.
15:56A question mark over where he drops in in 2015
16:00with his team owner, James Rosenberg,
16:03who's been a wonderful supporter of young drivers
16:05in the industry for a long period of time.
16:07He's hanging up his hat as an investor.
16:09David Reynolds P1, 28.7, Nick Percat P2.
16:12And then Tim Slade, position number 3.
16:15And Garth has gone to the top on a 1.28.7.
16:18Here comes Gizzy. Watch him.
16:20He was mega yesterday in the final practice session
16:22and he is again today.
16:24And around goes one of the Erebus cars.
16:27It's Will. Final corner.
16:29I just caught a glimpse of it in the background for Car 9.
16:31That's an unusual place.
16:33I haven't seen too many cars pointing the wrong way there over the years.
16:36And he had a power steering drama yesterday
16:38when he climbed the kerb,
16:40deposited some oil and smoke.
16:42Holdsworth has just moved up simultaneously to 7th
16:44while all that was going on.
16:46Van Gisbergen, Tanda, Reynolds, Percat,
16:48and Rick Kelly, that's your 5, Larco.
16:50Yeah, and with that ripping time of Giz there
16:52at the low 20, I'm really surprised
16:54there's even some cars out there
16:56that have not yet done what we call a banker,
16:58put a time in the bank.
17:00We talked about the unpredictability of this event or this circuit.
17:03We just saw it then, and this is dangerous territory
17:05more than halfway not to have done a time.
17:07Been a busy boy, Shane Van Gisbergen,
17:09and I reckon it's one of the things that's helping him
17:11in his career at the moment.
17:13Last weekend, raced in the New Zealand Super Tourers
17:15and had three wins, one of them still being debated.
17:17Next week, he's doing drifting.
17:19He just does so many kilometres, Mark,
17:21and it serves him well.
17:23His confidence is high. They've got this car working.
17:25Coming into yesterday's race meeting,
17:29he'd been on the podium five of the last seven visits here,
17:32so street circuits are something this bloke strings together nicely.
17:35Certainly does.
17:37He's the other guy that goes very well here too,
17:39but as you said, he's bigger.
17:41He drives the car so hard.
17:43He's got great car control.
17:45He runs quite a lot of rear brake in comparison to other competitors.
17:48The reason I laugh, that's another 27.9,
17:51so that's the first one into the 27s.
17:53It's six, almost seven-tenths of a second in front of Mostyn.
17:58The reason I had a little laugh when he came onto the straight
18:00in the previous lap, there's just a host of mirrors
18:03that have all been wiped off coming onto the start of any straight.
18:06I walked in this morning with Craig Lowndes.
18:09He's currently in 13th, and he is really sore.
18:12He thinks he's actually broken a rib.
18:14That was a very big hit.
18:15We saw that in the highlights this morning.
18:17We went with our coverage yesterday.
18:18He had a big drama at turn five, whacked the wall.
18:25First, he's an engineer, and you're just hearing the words.
18:27Mark Winterbottom's gone P6 in car five.
18:29There's Jack Perkins leaping over the kerbing down here.
18:32Reliability and mechanical strength is a big deal around here,
18:35and this is why the super slow mode tells a graphic story.
18:39How's that?
18:40A tonne and a half flying through the air in second gear,
18:43and up, up, up it goes.
18:45We'll sneak off for a quick break, and we'll come back and wrap up qualifying.
18:55We're back at Sydney Olympic Park,
18:57and we're right down to the business end now of qualifying.
19:02We're just under three minutes remaining for the final race
19:05of the championship season with the shootout to come,
19:07and we're looking at Scott McLaughlin in car number 33, the Volvo.
19:11Remember, he's been in the titanic battle this year
19:13with Jamie Wincup for the overall pole award of 2014,
19:17and at the moment, it sits 10-9 in favour of Wincup,
19:21and there was an extra incentive placed on the dashboard
19:23prior to heading into quali and the shootout.
19:26A little mistake there through that chicane for McLaughlin
19:29because if he grabbed the pole off the back of the shootout, Scotty,
19:32that would make them 10 apiece,
19:34a tie which would fall in favour of Wincup.
19:37So as an extra incentive, and given the remarkable performance
19:40of both McLaughlin as an individual and the Volvo team collectively,
19:44Paul Blair from Arboral has chucked up another $10,000 incentive for Scott,
19:49so I saw him in the box here this morning,
19:51and he went, well, I'm going after it.
19:53So he's pushing hard at the moment,
19:54but he's had a bit of a scrappy lap on this one.
19:56And that's one of the things is clearing some space around here,
19:59trying to find your way around between everybody,
20:02and how hard to push.
20:04If you push too hard, then obviously the car breaks away,
20:07and if you get it really wrong here, you wall the thing very, very easily.
20:12So a huge commitment required, but also such an unforgiving layout.
20:18You see all those mirrors where the Falcon tyre sign is there.
20:21They're all the right-hand mirrors of the cars
20:23that have basically wiped them off.
20:25This one will have that wiped off too.
20:27There's James Courtney, the 22 HRTK.
20:31You can see that mirror missing.
20:33We missed the event here last year with an injury
20:35after the Phillip Island incident at Turn 4.
20:38Since we saw him at Phillip Island a couple of weeks ago,
20:40he went to Las Vegas with Mick Doohan,
20:42a big car event over there.
20:43McLaughlin was there as well.
20:44In fact, it's a popular destination for some of the boys,
20:46because next week David Reynolds heads off for a well-earned break,
20:50and he'll be going to LA and then spending a bit of time out at Vegas.
20:54So he'll probably unload his earnings this year.
20:57So Winkup finishes his run.
21:00They'll get two laps.
21:01So he goes to second with a 28.3.
21:03Van Gisbergen remains on top with a 27.9.
21:07Mostyn third at the moment.
21:08Tander, Coulthard.
21:10Let's see what Winterbottom's done.
21:12Local Sydney lad currently seventh behind Dave Reynolds in sixth.
21:16Mostyn, as I said, is the highest-placed Falcon at this stage.
21:21Dave Reynolds goes to fourth.
21:23Van Gisbergen, does he improve?
21:25No, he's just started that lap.
21:27McLaughlin, let's just check out where he's going to be,
21:30because he's actually been a bit untidy with this qualifying performance so far,
21:34and he's had to have a relaunch because of the little mistakes that we saw
21:37when we were describing it in that previous lap.
21:39And it's actually not behaving to his satisfaction.
21:42He's just wiped the right mirror off it there.
21:44You can hear it chattering on the rear tyre.
21:48Yesterday, as Richard Holloway speaks with him, his engineer,
21:50they lifted the rear roll centre in the car
21:52to try and transfer more load to the front tyres and make it pointier.
21:55He said it was way better in the race,
21:57but I'm not sure that it's behaving like it should in quali at the moment.
22:01So James Courtney crossed the line.
22:02So it's Van Gisbergen from Wincup, then McLaughlin, P3, then Mostyn,
22:07then Reynolds.
22:08Here comes Garth Tander, had a bent bonnet on the car yesterday
22:10after getting tangled down at turn one.
22:12That hurt his progress.
22:14And Garth looking pretty strong there for P2 now, 128.2.
22:19Lowndes is in this as well, in recovery mode
22:22from his terrible shunt with the concrete wall at turn five.
22:25Mark Winterbottom out of the shootout.
22:27He's 11th nil.
22:28Scott Pye is into 10th.
22:30Rick Kelly up to 7th.
22:34Lowndes' time, where does he go?
22:3616th.
22:37Not good enough.
22:38Didn't string it together in the final analysis.
22:40So Winterbottom now goes up to P4 on the lap that we saw on conclusion.
22:44And David Reynolds to P4, displacing Winterbottom to five.
22:47So Van Gisberg and Tander, Wincup, Reynolds, Winterbottom.
22:50And here's Robert Dahlgren, who nudged it into the wall earlier.
22:53He's down in 23rd.
22:55So the flag out, done.
22:57McLaughlin still pressing on at the moment.
22:59He's had a green in his first sector.
23:03Back of the car looks just a fraction too loose at the moment.
23:06It's just breaking away.
23:07You can hear the tyre chatter again in the background.
23:09Is it an improvement for him?
23:11P6.
23:12But remember, it's about getting into the top ten.
23:15Here comes Scottie Pyne.
23:16What a day for him yesterday.
23:18He needs a turn of luck, and he just strings together an impressive lap for P6.
23:22He wiped the wall at the exit of Turn 13, the last corner.
23:26But he's done that crew proud after a big turnaround yesterday.
23:29But what about Gizzy?
23:30It's a provisional pole, but a shootout to come.
23:36We always knew these guys would race right to the end.
23:39So with the shootout still ahead of us, Shane Van Gisberg will be last out in that shootout.
23:43Garth Tander will be in there as well.
23:45And then in 11th spot, Fabian Coulthard, the first outside the shootout.
23:49A brave effort from Jason Bryford.
23:51Finished him in 12th position.
23:53And then on the final page, Dale Wood in 21st.
23:56Russell Engle and Marcus Ambrose, 22nd and 23rd, respectively.
24:01Well, our final shootout of the year is coming up.
24:05And it is going to be a great one here at Sydney Olympic Park.
24:08Stay tuned.
24:14It's shootout time on the streets of Sydney Olympic Park.
24:17And for the Holden Racing Team, it's the local lad, James Courtney,
24:21born not too far down the road.
24:23Friends and family are here to watch.
24:24He's in the top 10.
24:26He missed the run here in 2013 as a result of the injury that he received at Phillip Island.
24:32And now he's got to string together a handsome lap to try and grab a pole position.
24:36Slowly but surely in the next few minutes,
24:40Slowly but surely in 2014, the Holden Racing Team have been clawing back to their winning ways.
24:47They've made ground.
24:48They've been competitive.
24:49They've had poles.
24:50They've had victories.
24:51They've been on the podium.
24:53And this will mean a lot to Courtney this weekend.
24:55He was very quick on Friday in practice.
24:57They got fumbled by a red flag in qualifying earlier yesterday.
25:00And so far, so good.
25:02He's driven very well.
25:03He's very fast.
25:05He's always very committed.
25:06He's had two pole positions, as you said.
25:08This year.
25:10And Courtney has got green tyres, new tyres on the rear, and used scuffed tyres on the front.
25:19So we're hearing that Tander's got the same when he runs later in the top 10.
25:24So Courtney very close to the fence there on the way out of Turn 8.
25:29This is this run down Dawnfraser Avenue.
25:31On your left, he's right as an overtail there, right on the track.
25:37Turning left now in first gear.
25:39Complex little area, this at 9, 10, and around the train station to finish the last sector.
25:47Had a couple of pole positions so far this year.
25:49One of them came Race 11 of the Championship at Pukekohe outside Auckland in New Zealand.
25:54The second was on the streets of Townsville.
25:56He liked street circuits.
25:57Listen to those Dunlop tyres in protest.
26:00And James, very good time actually.
26:02One minute 28.5.
26:04Good lap, mate.
26:05Your scales are on pit entry as you come in, mate.
26:08So you have to stop there.
26:10Rob Starr on screen, just in radio conversation.
26:13And Adrian Burgess, you can tell by the look on his face that he thought it was a good job.
26:18And Garth was peering at the number and everybody thought it was pretty handsome
26:21because it's not easy to do a shootout lap and repeat the sort of numbers you were achieving in qualifying.
26:26G'day, James. It's Neil.
26:27That looked like a very good lap.
26:28Well done.
26:30It wasn't that pretty down here at 2 and 3.
26:32I got caught in the backside of the kerb.
26:34Which affected my drive out of here.
26:36But look, it was pretty clean.
26:38Hopefully we can jump up a few spots.
26:40Looks like the track's rubbering in slightly and a little bit quicker than yesterday.
26:44Is that a reasonable read?
26:47Yeah, it's strange.
26:48It's starting to spit now, just here.
26:50So hopefully that affects the other boys.
26:52But it's coming better.
26:54So it's just pouring down here, boys.
26:57It's pouring.
26:58Wire, wire, pants on fire.
27:00Thanks, James.
27:02Trying to sell everybody a puppet.
27:03The sky has gone incredibly dark again as we were talking yesterday in the race.
27:08But the forecast was for it to come in from any time after 1pm local today.
27:13We've passed that point as we now join Rick Kelly, Jack Daniels Racing, Nissan Altima.
27:18Year 2 of the Nissan Motorsport Program and these guys have made progress.
27:22Just went so close to the exit wall at Turn 1.
27:27And his best this year is a third in qualifying for Clipswell and Sydney Motorsport Park.
27:32So he hasn't been on the front row.
27:33Very deep under brakes.
27:35Had the rear wheels locked.
27:36That's where Courtney made the little mistake.
27:38He just made comment about it.
27:40And Rick Kelly is also very good on street circuits.
27:43Courtney, great job because that's about a tenth and a half faster than Courtney did in the qualifying session itself.
27:49He did a 28.72 in qualifying and a 28.56 for the top ten.
27:54Every little bit of road and some.
27:56That was the mirror.
27:57Cover.
27:58The mirror itself stayed there but he ripped the cover off on the way through.
28:01So he's pushing very, very hard.
28:03They've continued the development with these cars.
28:07He likes this place.
28:10Into the roller coaster.
28:12Very hard to get the car pulled up straight here and deal with the variety of changing surfaces.
28:17First gear.
28:18He had to wrestle it.
28:19Finished third here.
28:21Saturday 2010 and his best qualifying performance was Sunday in 2009 where he also grabbed the third.
28:28Flys are up motocross style.
28:29Two wheels.
28:30Into the final corner for Rick.
28:33Hallmark for him yesterday as we take Helmet Cam.
28:35It was his 400th V8 Supercar Championship start and Rick Kelly punches out a 1 minute 28.9.
28:42Three and a half tenths slower than James Courtney.
28:4528.6.
28:48Eric Penza, his engineer.
28:50Long standing relationship on the phone there just giving him the information.
28:55And watch this.
28:56This is turn one right at the start.
28:57I think he actually missed it but he dropped the right rear into the concrete gutter and brought up the dust.
29:01How close is that?
29:03A little bit of wheel spin there and this is the exit of the bus stop at turn six, seven.
29:08Rick Mark Scaife, very good job mate.
29:10Used every little bit of road.
29:12Gave the mirror a little rub on the wall coming out of the bus stop down there.
29:16Well done.
29:18Yeah look, thanks very much.
29:19It wasn't a bad run.
29:21A little bit of oversteer in the car today.
29:23Seems to be really sensitive to changes and a little bit of temperature in the track.
29:27Yeah, a little skatey.
29:29I'm just happy I got it around and finished the lap.
29:31Not quite as quick as what we would have liked.
29:34Well done mate.
29:35All the best for this afternoon.
29:36As we go to Chas Mostert now starting his lap.
29:39Pepsi backs Ford Performance Racing.
29:41Our 2014 Bathurst Champion.
29:43He brought the house down.
29:45He wants to finish the season in fine style.
29:47He qualified in one minute 28.5.
29:51On the run to the turn two, three chicane.
29:53This is critical.
29:55Ford to be able to try and keep up the rolling speed without flying the car too high
29:59and be able to get back on that gas so close to the exit wall.
30:04He took the same tyre policy.
30:07Green tyres on the rear.
30:08Used at the front.
30:09Now Rick Kelly had used tyres all round.
30:11Which could explain some of that oversteer that he had
30:14because the other guys so far have been using fresh as in brand new rear tyres.
30:19As you heard Rick complaining about the oversteer.
30:21Not enough rear grip.
30:22Sliding around too much.
30:24Mostert now comes down Dawn Fraser Avenue.
30:29Hasn't had a pole position in 2014.
30:32Has qualified third in the series this year in New Zealand.
30:37Wins in Western Australia and that mighty win at Mount Panorama.
30:41Two red boxes.
30:45It's going to be a very special year for him
30:47as he remembers his achievements this year
30:49when he clicks off and shuts down at the end of the championship season
30:53to reflect on really arriving.
30:55Remember, he only ran in the main game here last year for the first time.
30:59And that time for him, 129.1 for Chas Mostert.
31:04Take a break now on the streets of Sydney.
31:06There's a big question mark over the weather.
31:08Join us in a moment.
31:15Nine times this year Scott McLaughlin has grabbed the money
31:18for the armour or pole position but he's under threat at the moment.
31:21Not from fellow competitors but from the skies above.
31:25A wipe of the screen suggests that it's now starting to annoy him.
31:29So there's a drop of rain on the racetrack.
31:31Sometimes if you've got enough temperature in the road and the tyre
31:34you'll get away with it but obviously depends on just exactly
31:37what's going to unfold here weather-wise.
31:39Particularly in the south-western corner of the racetrack.
31:42This is the run to turn number one.
31:44Peak speed just on 250 kilometres an hour.
31:47And remember, there's the added incentive for McLaughlin
31:50that if he ties the race, he's going to win.
31:52Added incentive for McLaughlin that if he ties with Jamie Wincup
31:55for ten armour or pole positions, it's another ten grand
31:59courtesy of armour or.
32:00There's a little incentive for you but it's working against him weather-wise.
32:03The level of commitment at this place is unbelievable.
32:06Without the spots of rain, he's given the fence a rub there
32:09on the way out of turn one.
32:11He's got that mirror hanging back.
32:13He's on four green tyres.
32:15So he's the first one and there's the split.
32:17It's up on Courtney.
32:19Four green tyres for McLaughlin.
32:21That's the policy from the Volvo squad.
32:23There can sometimes be that rare moment in motorsport
32:26with just a couple of drops on the screen
32:28where suddenly you actually find a little bit of grip.
32:30I don't know what the technical reason is
32:32but he may well be in that window at the moment.
32:35So that's a very encouraging time.
32:37And cast your mind back a couple of years ago
32:39when this young fella got the call-up from Gary Rogers in 2012.
32:42At that stage, he was a Dunlop Series driver.
32:44Two green boxes for McLaughlin.
32:46There's ten grand on the line here.
32:48And he stepped in for the ailing Alex Prema
32:51and got exposure to this racetrack.
32:53He put together a beautiful season last year
32:55and what a remarkable story it's been in 2014
32:58for this man and for Volvo.
33:00Race winners, pole-sitters,
33:02and he's pushing hard at the moment.
33:04$10,000 at stake for Scott McLaughlin.
33:06The young Kiwi is flying to the flag.
33:09What can he produce for us here?
33:11He has gone to the top on a 128.3.
33:14Good job, mate. Well done.
33:16That is a great job.
33:18Richard Holway just commenting there to Scott McLaughlin.
33:21He did a 28.51 in the real qualifying session,
33:24so he's two tenths faster.
33:26Have a look how deep he was under brakes at turn one.
33:28He got it turned in, he got on the throttle,
33:31and then have a look how much road he used.
33:33Right out to the fence.
33:35Very similar to Rick Kelly.
33:37A little bit wider and a little bit of damage there.
33:39Great job, Scott McLaughlin.
33:42Hello.
33:44Hey, Scotty, Mark Scaife, well done, mate.
33:46That was a fantastic job to be two tenths faster
33:49than the lap that you did to get into the top ten.
33:55Yeah, thanks, mate.
33:57I can't really hear you that well,
33:59but, yeah, pretty stoked.
34:02I put it all on the line and had a good fun.
34:06What about the $10,000 from Armourall?
34:09Armourall, that's a nice little gesture.
34:13Can't hear me there now.
34:15So Scott Pye starts his lap.
34:18He's been very fast.
34:20His best qualifying this year is eighth in Adelaide.
34:23He's shown really good form this weekend, hasn't he?
34:25He has, and he's due for a change in luck.
34:28Just tightens the belts on the run into two.
34:31One of 11 cars carrying onboard cameras for us this weekend,
34:34Scott Pye.
34:36Mark over what happens with him in 2015.
34:39This bloke's got a pedigree.
34:41He was the British Formula 4 champion in 2010 with 14 wins.
34:45Roland Dain helps him in his career.
34:49He's been through some pretty difficult moments
34:52in his V8 supercar career, and that was close.
34:55That was an awkward little trip over the kerbing for him there.
35:00Debut in the main game here at this racetrack last year.
35:04So he doesn't have a huge amount of experience at this location,
35:08but it seems to have come to naught for him,
35:10because it hasn't hurt at all.
35:12When you look at what he's done in the last couple of days,
35:15he's been super fast, so it's got nothing to do
35:17with how many k's he's done here.
35:19He's been pedalling very, very well.
35:21He's on four green tyres also,
35:23and he also has the same policy from DJR as the Volvo squad.
35:29He's just a little bit down on McLaughlin.
35:33Ooh, again!
35:35He gave the fence a rub there at the last corner.
35:37He did it before in qualifying,
35:39and that's going to put Scott Pye...
35:4129.10, D4 right now.
35:43This is the spot here.
35:44This was the one that we were riding with,
35:46and it actually pitched him up so high,
35:48it made the angle tight for the next part of the left-hander,
35:51and he hit it somewhat awkwardly.
35:53How's that for a super slow-mo?
35:55Isn't that cool?
35:57It's also a good sign of grip.
35:59When they stand up on two wheels like that,
36:01I know the kerb caused it,
36:03but when they do stand up like that for that long,
36:05they've got very good lateral grip,
36:07and Scott Pye in fourth position.
36:09We see here how close he was.
36:11We were on board when we got to that fence.
36:14And looking at McLaughlin's car, the second-last runner,
36:17it looked to me like he'd improved the car.
36:19It was a little bit oversteery in qualifying earlier today.
36:21They made a rear roll centre change with the car
36:23for the race yesterday,
36:25and it was a very nice run for this man, Scotty McLaughlin,
36:28as he vacates the S60 Volvo.
36:30So at the moment, it's McLaughlin, provisional pole,
36:33Courtney, Rick Kelly, Scott Pye, Chas Mostyn,
36:35and the man on screen now is Mark Winterbottom,
36:38who yesterday down here at Turn 1 found the wall.
36:40Not very often you see those sorts of mistakes from Frosty.
36:43He recorded a 1 minute 28.4 in qualifying
36:46to earn a spot now in this shootout for the Arbor Oil Pole.
36:51And they haven't had a pole this year.
36:53The best they've been is second to Bathurst
36:55and second to Phillip Island.
36:56So qualifying has been a real problem
36:59for the factory Ford squad and Mark Winterbottom.
37:03Last time that there wasn't a Ford pole in a season
37:08was all the way back in 1986.
37:11And, yeah, Phillip Island last year for this guy.
37:13So it's been a while between drinks,
37:14and that used to be one of his real strengths.
37:16So they've just had a little bit of trouble
37:18trying to adapt this car.
37:19They've shifted its window of performance.
37:21They got off to a ripper start
37:22in the first half of the championship
37:24and just got a little bit awkward through the mid-stages
37:26and the back end of the series.
37:28They're in recovery mode
37:29at Pepsi Max Ford Performance Racing.
37:32Down here at Turn 9 in the roller coaster for Winterbottom.
37:35Doesn't look too bad, but two red boxes.
37:38They don't look encouraging,
37:39but, in fact, the margin's pretty tight.
37:42He had green rears, used fronts,
37:44so that first part of the segment of the lap
37:46and battle then, didn't he?
37:47Battle to get it stopped
37:48and had quite a lot of push when he got to the corner.
37:52Let's check this one out
37:53as you make the last corner.
37:54It's so close to the fence again.
37:5628.76, and third position for Mark Winterbottom.
37:59Good job.
38:00Remember, there's an immense battle
38:02for second in this series.
38:04Championship battle between Winterbottom,
38:05Van Gisbergen, and Lowndes.
38:12Turn 6.
38:14Turn 7, exit,
38:15and right against the wall.
38:17We've seen almost every competitor do that
38:19in the top 10.
38:21Mark Winterbottom, Mark Scaife,
38:22well done, mate.
38:23Got a nice lap, used every little bit of road.
38:26Yeah, it's hard work.
38:28The car moves around a lot,
38:30which I hope TV shows that
38:32because in here it feels like it's really moving around,
38:34but you're just trying to do that one lap,
38:36and these shootouts are really, really good,
38:38so that's about all I've got.
38:40You've just got to give it a crack
38:41and see where we go.
38:44Thanks, Frosty.
38:45So at the moment, provisional third place
38:47for the man on screen.
38:48McLaughlin is the guy that they're all chasing.
38:50We'll take a break and continue with Armour All qualifying
38:52from the streets of Sydney.
38:59Car number 55, David Reynolds.
39:01He's off to Vegas and L.A. next week
39:03for a little break from the game,
39:04but right now he's focused.
39:06He's all about delivering a qualifying outcome.
39:09Oh, it was a wild ride through the curving for him there.
39:12A podium for him yesterday.
39:16And he's looking for form.
39:17He's been a bit frustrated this year
39:18trying to get the car to work.
39:19One minute 28.3 was the number.
39:21He's over.
39:22There's a curb there.
39:23So that lap's over for Dave Reynolds.
39:25He did a great job of this at yesterday's third,
39:27but he's backed it off now.
39:30So just like the Gold Coast,
39:32if you run through the chicane,
39:34you've got a strike,
39:35and you've got a strike for using too much of the curb.
39:38That means you've got four wheels off the racetrack,
39:40essentially, and that's the end.
39:42Nathaniel Osman, he's engineering.
39:45Rod Nash was on Nathaniel's right.
39:47So we were on board, and it looked...
39:49I described it as awkward,
39:50and clearly the external shot will show that it was.
39:53And here it is.
39:54The replay hit the rears,
39:56and he went straight over the top of it.
39:58I mean, I knew it looked ugly on board,
40:00but I didn't realise it was that bad.
40:02And remember, that's just maximum attack.
40:04That's deep under brakes there.
40:07There's a bump.
40:08He had the rear wheels locked.
40:09He was on the slide.
40:11Clearly didn't intend to drive across there.
40:13It was the momentum of the car once he got there.
40:15Have a look at the forces through that front spoiler
40:17and through the bodywork
40:19as it ricocheted across the inside curb
40:22on the right-hander for turn three.
40:24And the boys there, you can see the reaction.
40:27Frustration for him, I was about to say,
40:29before we saw all that going on.
40:301 minute 28.3.
40:31Got him into the shootout
40:33because that's a number that he shares
40:35with the man with the gold helmet.
40:36Now, Jamie Wincup also achieved that number.
40:381 minute 28.3.
40:40He's got 10 Armour All Pole positions in 2014.
40:43He's got more of them than anybody
40:45in the Australian Touring Car Championship
40:47and V8 Supercar history.
40:4961 of them, and he's battling this young pretender.
40:53He is on it, isn't he?
40:55And these guys, I thought one of the big moments for me
40:57this season was watching Scott McLaughlin
41:00and Jamie Wincup have that great battle in Adelaide
41:03at the very beginning of the season,
41:04and we knew at that moment it was on.
41:08This bloke is the benchmark qualifier in the field,
41:10as Neil said, the record holder
41:12for the most amount of pole positions ever.
41:15We're on the left-hand front mudguard of car one.
41:20He's on four green tyres,
41:22so he's chosen to do the same thing as McLaughlin.
41:24Remember this.
41:26The Armour All Pole position award for the year
41:29hanging in the balance between this lap
41:31and the lap that we saw McLaughlin
41:33put on, and he's already wiped the mirror off.
41:36I reckon he's used about ten mirrors
41:38on that wall this weekend.
41:40Now, brake stability and the ability
41:42for the car to ride the kerb
41:44has been their strength here this weekend in this car,
41:46and again, looks super good.
41:48Under brakes, cleanly on line and through one.
41:52What's it look like through all these kerbs down here?
41:54This is where David Reynolds got in stride.
41:56Watch the rear of the car, under brakes,
41:57and the rear gets away from Wincup.
41:59Good, it's the same. Gone.
42:02Over. There's a bit of pressure relief
42:04for Scotty McLaughlin.
42:06He bursts into a grin.
42:08That's a shortcut, mate. That's a shortcut.
42:13He's pressing on with it, Wincup.
42:16He'll be frustrated with that.
42:17He actually had the right rear
42:19in the concrete verge where there's a little bit of camber,
42:21and it locked the rears and slid down
42:23that camber in the gutter,
42:25and it just tripped the back of the car.
42:27This is turn nine on the roller coaster for Wincup.
42:32And what an amazing performance it's been for him
42:35in qualifying so far this year.
42:38Today is one that got away,
42:39but there's another monumental attack
42:43into turn two for him.
42:46You can see the grin break out on Scotty McLaughlin's face.
42:49That's not done.
42:50At the end of this guy,
42:51Wincup's got a bit of a smile on his face.
42:53You can see the grin break out on Scotty McLaughlin's face.
42:56That's not done.
42:57That's right. It's not done.
42:59And this was the guy
43:01that he would have most been concerned about.
43:04Yeah, sorry about that, fellas.
43:06Had quite a lot of rear locking for some reason
43:08going into this lap.
43:10It looked very locky on the way into turn one.
43:12He got away with that.
43:14So this is the first part of the lap
43:16where he, bang, wipes that mirror cover off.
43:18Then he got down to turn one.
43:20He had the rear wheels locked.
43:22He got the car turned in,
43:23but then when he got to the braking area at the next corner,
43:26there's the bumps.
43:27The rear wheels come off the ground,
43:29and he's right out sideways with the rears locked
43:31and has to go across the kerb
43:33at the left and then the right.
43:36So Jamie Wincup with a big handful of opposite lock there.
43:40Rally style on the way into two and three
43:44and very similar circumstance to Dave Reynolds
43:47in terms of the way that the car's reacted over there.
43:49We're on board now. Just listen.
43:53That was graphic.
43:56How sideways it was.
43:58And as Neil said, he got caught a little bit
44:00with how wide the right rear was out to the gutter.
44:03Our first Gillette replay showed it best,
44:05which was that you could actually see
44:07where the right rear of the car was positioned,
44:09so all the eyes are on this guy.
44:11And isn't he making a name for himself in the game at the moment?
44:14Great story, Scott McLaughlin and Volvo.
44:18And now it's Garfander,
44:20the seasoned hand.
44:22Came into the weekend with 510 V8 supercar races under his belt.
44:2629 pole positions for 53 wins,
44:29like street circuits.
44:31Didn't see the best of him in that first race yesterday
44:34because of the difficulties they had qualifying.
44:37He uses a bit of power, but one.
44:39Wincup didn't.
44:42Time for him to get in this far was 1 minute 28.2.
44:47We've still got Shane van Giersbergen to come.
44:52Cleanly through two and three for Garf.
44:57It's a tander, slightly up.
44:590.04.
45:00A lot has said before it's not done.
45:02Two of the best qualifiers for field with tander and van Giersbergen.
45:09So he's using every little bit of road.
45:12Very aggressive on his braking.
45:14He's braking.
45:15Just got it stopped there.
45:17Searching for his first pole this year.
45:19He was on the front row in town.
45:25What's the second split look like?
45:27And it looks good is the answer to that question.
45:29And it's tiny, isn't it, Scott?
45:31Pacing around in the garage.
45:35Neither of those crews are breathing at the moment.
45:39Down the back of the station.
45:42Now the tander turns it in with good speed.
45:44Puts it up over the kerb just a little.
45:47Drops it into the gutter.
45:50Very early through the final corner.
45:52Whacks that mirror.
45:53It matters not.
45:54Lost a bit of time.
45:55Oh, how close!
45:57Three hundredths of a second there.
46:01That's a moment of T3, so great job.
46:04Relief.
46:05Again for Scott McLachlan.
46:07Three one hundredths.
46:08How are you going there, Scotty?
46:11You know what I'd want to do now?
46:13Down to Ben Ginsberg and chuck him a couple of grand
46:15and pick up ten for the arm roll.
46:17Splitting the difference.
46:18That was the last car, wasn't it?
46:19Here's the final corner for Garth.
46:21He picked that throttle up very, very early.
46:24And Ryan Walkinshaw, Rob Starr, Adrian Burgess, Blake Smith.
46:29Bucko, go for it.
46:30Yeah, just want to quickly grab Scotty.
46:32You OK?
46:33You're dancing around.
46:34You're zipping, you're unzipping.
46:35You OK?
46:36There's a lot of beers.
46:37There's a lot of beers on offer.
46:38No, no.
46:39Look, man, I'm so happy.
46:40I'm psyched to come through.
46:41And it was probably one of my best laps.
46:43So good luck to Shane and may the best man win.
46:46I'm going to stand here with you.
46:47I'm going to stand here with you once you see what happens.
46:49OK.
46:50Here we go.
46:52This is it.
46:53Our peak moment in qualifying for 2014.
46:55Our final shootout.
46:58We sought out a grid for the final time this season.
47:01And we've got one of the most flamboyant,
47:03one of the fastest,
47:04one of the most spectacular V8 supercar drivers
47:07to take us out of this phase of the year.
47:09Shane Van Gensbergen.
47:11He's had eight career poles,
47:12eight career victories.
47:14He's had a great year.
47:15And he's on target for his best ever
47:17in V8 supercar competition.
47:19He won a Pecoe last weekend
47:21three times in the New Zealand Super Tour.
47:23He's doing a bit of drifting next weekend.
47:25He's in and out of as many cars
47:27as he can get his hands on throughout the season.
47:29He's off to Daytona next year.
47:31And he's driving like a real champion at the moment.
47:34He's on used tyres.
47:35He's chosen not to put green tyres on the car.
47:38So that first sector there
47:39will be important for brake stability.
47:41Oh, he used a lot of kerb at the right-hander then.
47:45A lot of kerb.
47:46In fact, it tripped him up a little bit.
47:52That doesn't quite look like it.
47:55Telltale here momentarily.
47:59Here comes the second timing intermediate.
48:01Oh, he's down one and a half tenths.
48:03That's a lot.
48:04Have a go at Scotty.
48:06Breathe, mate.
48:08Kiwi versus Kiwi.
48:10Van Gisbergen.
48:11VIP pit for its hole.
48:13Versus the man top right.
48:16There's the 10-man auto sports crew down the bottom.
48:18Their hearts have stopped.
48:20One corner remaining now for Shane.
48:22He's been strong at this place
48:24for the last several years.
48:26And the clock stops.
48:27In favour of Scott McLachlan
48:29who takes the arm-rolling pole.
48:31And another $10,000.
48:34Well done, Scotty.
48:37It's biz already.
48:39Yeah, biz, you're dead right.
48:41Well done, mate.
48:43Well done, brother.
48:44Fantastic.
48:45Arm-roll are going to fling you another $10,000.
48:47How good's that, mate?
48:48But when it comes down to it,
48:49that was a beautiful lap, mate.
48:50Well driven.
48:52Hopefully I don't get in trouble for jumping on the wall.
48:54But I'm so pumped, man.
48:55It was awesome.
48:56And we've got a race to go.
48:57But to get pole and equal Jamie
48:59is a big achievement of mine.
49:00And he's a six-time champion.
49:01He's a great driver.
49:02And I've equaled him in the poles,
49:04not the championships.
49:05No, you've done a great job, mate.
49:06And you've just bought a nice little place for yourself
49:08that might help with the mortgage, eh?
49:09Yeah.
49:10Thanks to Valvoline and all our supporters
49:11and all the team for giving me a great car.
49:12It's been fantastic.
49:13And all our fans for sticking by us.
49:15We're on for the race.
49:17And hopefully we can win this thing.
49:18Right, everyone.
49:19Biz on Scotty.
49:20Line up.
49:22Get in the queue.
49:23Well done, young man.
49:24That is a brilliant performance.
49:26And there's the $10,000 from Arm-Roll
49:28about to be handed over.
49:29That is a spectacular outcome.
49:3110 for him in 2014.
49:33And you can't say enough about Jamie Wincup as well.
49:3510 also for him.
49:37So those two guys nailing 20 of the 38 this year.
49:40That's a great outcome.
49:41Look how tight those margins are.
49:44Unbelievable.
49:47Come up for air.
49:49Come up for air.
49:50Come up.
49:51Come up for air.
49:52Come up for air.
49:53Come up.
49:54Come up for air.
49:55Come up for air.
49:57Come up.
49:58Come up for air.
49:59Come up for air.
50:00Come up.
50:17What a summer of golf it's been.
50:19Rising stars from both Australia and around the world
50:22have built on their growing reputations
50:24with impressive wins in Perth, Melbourne and Sydney.
50:28And why wouldn't he finish like that?
50:30This Thursday is the final event of the year on the Gold Coast.
50:34Royal Pines will play host to defending champion Adam Scott,
50:37desperate for more success on home soil.

50:47It's a sizzling summer of sport on the Seven Network
50:50and a sizzling day for Scott McLaughlin.
50:52What about his performance round after round?
50:55He is a rising star.
50:57And that performance to get pole position here
50:59in the final race of the year, just outstanding.
51:02The celebration was well worth it.
51:04$10,000, his 10th pole position of the year
51:07and the adulation of Gary Rogers.
51:10Not a bad combination at all.
51:12Rihanna Crean has been down and chatting with Shane Van Gisbergen.
51:16Rihanna.
51:17Shane Van Gisbergen, the final top 10 shootout of the year.
51:20You made it exciting for the fans,
51:21but unfortunately couldn't quite get it done.
51:23Yeah, just couldn't get it right myself.
51:25But the car's fast enough,
51:26so looking forward to this afternoon.
51:28Were there any deals between yourself and your other Kiwi brother?
51:31You know, maybe 10 grand you could split it between you?
51:33Nah, but he's had the fastest car all year and he's done well.
51:37He's a pretty good driver, good at qualifying.
51:39So hopefully we can get him in the race.
51:41Well, good luck for this afternoon, Shane.
51:42Cheers.
