00:00It was a splendid morning on the island of Sodor.
00:20James was feeling very pleased with himself.
00:24His red paint gleamed in the sunshine as he sped along the line.
00:28He reached the junction just as Percy puffed in with some freight cars.
00:33James was surprised to see him.
00:35What are you doing here, Percy? You should be at the station by now.
00:40I know, sighed Percy. These cars have been troublesome all morning.
00:45That's no excuse, Percy. Nothing should stop us.
00:48Sir Topham Hatt relies on us to be on time.
00:51Now if you'll excuse me, I'll be on my way.
00:54And James puffed importantly away.
00:58Bossy buffers, muttered Percy.
01:06James arrived at the harbor. It was market day.
01:09The harbor yard was filled with the sweet smell of fruit from faraway lands.
01:15The fruit was delivered in big ships.
01:18James watched as strawberries, oranges, melons and bananas were carefully loaded onto his cars.
01:24Then he set off for the station on the main line.
01:30On the way, he met Thomas.
01:39Really reliable. That's me, panted James.
01:42Pity the same can't be said for Percy.
01:45Goodbye.
01:45What was all that about, gasped Annie and Clarabelle.
01:53That was trouble. Trouble for James. Just wait and see.
01:58Percy was back in the yard and busy shunting.
02:01He had the cars in good order and was making up for lost time.
02:05But the station master had bad news.
02:09What's happened? Asked Percy's driver.
02:12James' brakes have jammed. We need Percy's help right away.
02:16Percy quickly set off to the rescue.
02:18James was stuck on the line and looking glum.
02:27Percy couldn't help laughing.
02:29Got yourself in a bit of a jam, eh, James?
02:31A sticky situation?
02:35Be quiet. It's not funny having jammed brakes.
02:39And not very reliable either.
02:41I'm surprised you let it happen, James.
02:43Nothing should stop us engines.
02:45That's enough, Percy, said the driver.
02:48Can you push these cars?
02:50Of course I can.
02:51There's no time to lose.
02:53James has done too much of that already.
02:57James angrily hissed steam as Percy was coupled to the cars.
03:01Off we go, said Percy.
03:03I'll have to go fast to get there in time.
03:06Those big engines are so unreliable.
03:09Be careful, Percy, called his driver.
03:16But Percy was in a hurry.
03:22He didn't see that the switch had failed
03:25and that he had been diverted into a siding.
03:29Look out, Percy, shouted his driver
03:31and applied the brakes.
03:32But it was too late.
03:34The driver and fireman had jumped clear,
03:42but squashed fruit squirted all over Percy.
03:53Sir Topham had arrived.
03:55Percy, you are not to blame for the switch failure,
03:58but I do not run a jam factory.
04:00Yes, sir.
04:01No, sir.
04:02And Percy squelched sadly away.
04:06That night, the shed was silent.
04:09James and Percy felt very sorry for themselves.
04:13At last, Thomas spoke.
04:15You know, he said to no engine in particular,
04:18there's more than one way to get jammed.
04:20We all learned that today.
04:22Still, there was silence.
04:24What's more, we also learned that sometimes
04:26when engines help each other out of a jam,
04:29things can still go wrong.
04:32So, said a voice,
04:34so, that means we learned a lot today,
04:36and therefore...
04:38Then came a chorus.
04:41We're really useful engines after all.
