‘These Services Are Make Or Break’: Janelle Bynum Decries Trump Admin’s Program Funding Cuts

00:02Mr. Speaker, I ask unanimous consent to address the House for one minute and to revise and extend my remark.

00:07Without objection, the gentlewoman is recognized for one minute.

00:12Mr. Speaker, Mr. Speaker, Mr. Speaker, I rise today because the President is out here in these streets

00:21cutting funding for programs that support a lot of things Americans care about.

00:27Survivors of sexual assault, programs that offer mental health care for police officers,

00:33hotlines to keep victims of crime whole, programs that assist law enforcement in rural communities

00:41providing guidance on finding safe housing and offering care and counseling for children facing abuse.

00:49Mr. Speaker, Mr. Speaker, Mr. Speaker, local organizations have been sounding the alarm

00:55of what these cuts would mean for our communities, and today I'm joining them.

01:00And in some situations, these services are make or break,

01:03and we just can't let our communities and our neighbors down.

01:07Mr. Speaker, this week is police week, and if the President is truly supportive of safer communities,

01:15he should quit cutting funding for programs that work to keep them that way.
