00:08Mr. Speaker, Mr. Speaker, Mr. Speaker, I rise today because the President's trash bill is out here cutting funding for a program that supports low-income kids and families, supports our seniors and those without housing.
00:25I rise today because those cuts will leave people in my district hungry.
00:31I rise today because that's unacceptable.
00:35I'm talking about SNAP.
00:38SNAP provides children and families in my district and across this country with the help they need to put food on the table.
00:45It reduces food insecurity and it boosts our local economies.
00:49Our communities can't afford cuts to these benefits.
00:52It's a vital lifeline for my constituents.
00:56And over 733,000 Oregonians used SNAP benefits last year, and that's over one in six residents in the state.
01:05It's unconscionable to give $2 trillion in tax rates to the ultra-wealthy by defunding this food assistance American families depend on.
