A man has been attacked by a shark at a popular snorkelling beach south of Adelaide.

00:00Emergency services say a man in his 40s was attacked by a shark at Port Norlunga this morning.
00:07He's currently in a critical but stable condition.
00:10South Australian Ambulance Service says he experienced injuries to his thighs.
00:14They arrived here and seen around 9.45 this morning.
00:17He was pulled from the water by emergency services and treated by paramedics on the beach.
00:22He was then transported to Flinders Medical Centre where he's being treated for his injuries.
00:27Now swimmers here at Port Norlunga have been urged to get out of the water.
00:30They were evacuated from the water when the incident happened.
00:33They've been urged to stay out.
00:34There are still some people walking along the beach but no one is currently in the water at the moment.
00:38Here at Port Norlunga it's a very popular diving and snorkeling spot.
00:42People often go to the reef which is along the jetty here at Port Norlunga.
00:45This is the second shark attack seen at Port Norlunga in the last two years.
00:49In December 2023, 32-year-old Bridget O'Shaughnessy.
00:52She suffered injuries to her head after being attacked by a shark.
00:57She suffered serious injuries but was eventually in a stable condition.
01:01So the community here at Port Norlunga, they are worried about the increase in shark attacks.
01:05The community have banded together and some locals are even coming down themselves to see if they can get information out to the public a little bit better.
01:12I'm here rallying up the community with Shark Watch to have more surveillance on the water.
01:16But as we can see with South Australia's current shark attack statistics, we're in obviously a grim predicament at the moment.
01:23And it would be the funding and the resources need to be allocated efficiently due to the circumstances that are unfolding.
01:32Unfortunately, there have been four fatal shark attacks in South Australia in the last two years.
01:38Three of them were on the Eyre Peninsula.
01:40The most recent being in early this year in January when Lance Uppelby was taken off Streaky Bay, the granite surf spot.
01:47It was a very unfortunate incident that rocked the community of Streaky Bay.
01:51We also saw Kai Cowley, a teenager.
01:53He died after a shark attack just off the York Peninsula.
01:56So the government say they are doing more to increase shark safety at beaches across the state.
02:02They're increasing funding for drone capabilities to see if we can spot sharks sooner.
02:06But unfortunately, it's not a deterrent as we've seen today.
