Surfer missing after attack at Wharton Beach in Western Australia

The search for a missing surfer is continuing today after a shark attack at a popular beach in Western Australia's remote south east.

00:00Authorities were going to resume the search at first light today at Wharton Beach which

00:07is about an hour's drive east of where I am here in Esperance.

00:11The incident occurred just after lunchtime yesterday and all afternoon police and marine

00:17crews were looking for the man but unfortunately there's been no sign of the missing surfer.

00:23And what do we know about the surfer?

00:29Well the man's identity is yet to be confirmed by police but what we do know is that his

00:34brother spoke to ABC Perth earlier this morning.

00:37He didn't want his name put out there but his brother said that the man was visiting

00:41the region from Melbourne with his partner.

00:44They'd been driving across Australia in their van.

00:47He was an avid surfer and sadly the brother did say that they're not expecting to find

00:54the man at this stage unfortunately.
