00:00Episode of Kimora life in the family we are preparing for a men's ad campaign and I think I should shoot it
00:12Ming and Aoki are interested in learning how to cook this is your hair. No
00:19What is it? It's hair
00:22We put hundreds of thousands of dollars going into the shoot everything has to go off without a hitch
00:27This is perfect place for me to jump
00:33As the CEO of baby fat I design clothing jewelry fragrances you name it
00:38It's a lot of work, but I've come a long way since my days walking the runway
00:42I'm a mogul and a model and best of all. I'm a mom. I'm Morley Simmons and this is my life in the family
00:58We are preparing for our spring ad campaign for fat fashions
01:02This particular shoot is very important because we definitely need to differentiate between the brand
01:10We want there to be a clear distinction for the consumer about the fat classics
01:15Which is the jeans and the t-shirts and the sneakers, you know the fly guy when he's chilling
01:20And fat premium is grown and sexy when he's out on a date or when he's making his money
01:26That's the difference between those two brands
01:29My vision for the fat premium ad campaign is very simple. I want a location that's really beautiful
01:35sexy male model and a sleek very sexy vintage car. I
01:41Just love this isn't it beautiful. You see you can see the city and the ocean. Yes. It's very peaceful. Do you like it?
01:47Yes, I like it. You get golden light here at night time
01:51Richard is the founder of chandelier, which is the ad agency that we use we could do world of fat up here, and I think I should shoot it
02:00When Camara told us that she wanted to shoot the campaign we were surprised because she's not the first choice as a photographer
02:06I'm quite the little amateur photographer. I've been practicing. Is that true? Yeah, I'll show you something
02:10I don't know whether they want an amateur photographer shooting the campaign now
02:13I have worked very very closely with all of my ad campaigns for many years
02:18So it's my idea that I should shoot this campaign
02:20It's really a way of ensuring that my vision is seen I have worked with the best photographers my model
02:26I'm on both sides of the camera
02:28It's a very high-profile campaign. It's a lot of magazines a lot of billboards
02:32It's a lot of risk to place in someone who you've never seen as a photographer before but can you do your vision and be a photographer?
02:38Richard and sandra when I told them I wanted to shoot the campaign looked at me like I was out of my mind
02:45I wouldn't be here where I was today if I minded people looking at me like I was crazy
02:50It happens every single day. You don't think you're too close to your vision? Honey, Karl agerfeld does both
02:56She's very creative in her own way, but she's not a photographer
02:59So I hope for her sake and for our sake that she can do what she says she can. It's gonna be very interesting
03:03While I brush up on my photography
03:11Ming and Aoki are interested in learning how to cook. However, I am not the best cook in the world. I can cook
03:19But nobody will eat it
03:24Hi
03:26Anna is a friend of the family and she actually is from the Boyardee family like chef Boyardee like the canned food
03:36Now that's something I can cook
03:38So Anna is the living little baby junior chef Boyardee
03:43We're going to cook today. What are we going to cook?
03:46Pie? Pizza?
03:49So today we're here at hip cooks, which is an awesome cooking school in Los Angeles
03:55And we are going to be cooking with Ming and Aoki. Although I don't think we're going to do any real cooking today
03:59We're just sort of going to get them used to the idea of being in the kitchen
04:02Well today we're just kind of going to just play around
04:04I want to see how much you guys know know if you know basics like if you know how to crack an egg and you know how to measure
04:12I just want to see how much they really know
04:15If anything
04:17Yep, you want to give it one good hard crack
04:19And then you get a clean break
04:21Oh
04:23We're going to use this kind of measuring cup for liquids
04:25Yeah
04:26Right and we would use these kind for dry ingredients
04:29Does mommy ever cook at home?
04:31No
04:32Mommy I am a cook
04:33You are not
04:36I want to make something for mommy
04:38You do? Okay
04:40I want to make chicken or pasta
04:43I like pasta
04:44Ming and Aoki decided today that they would like to try to cook a whole meal for their mom
04:48Which is so sweet, it's such an act of love
04:52Here you look messy
04:54Don't
04:55What's this?
04:56Is this your hair?
04:57No
04:58It's not hair
04:59What is it?
05:00It's hair
05:02We had a lot of fun and it was very very messy
05:05I'm so happy that these lessons did not take place in my kitchen
05:23Hi Jerry
05:23Hey there Miss Kimora Lee, how are you dear?
05:27I've called on a friend of mine who is a professional photographer and his name is Jerry
05:31And he actually shot the very first fat farm ad campaign
05:35That is the very first ever
05:36This is my long lost ad
05:39Yeah
05:39We always want to use this ad Jerry
05:41And you have it
05:42You look fabulous, you still look fabulous
05:45I'm Jerry Avanom
05:46I'm a Los Angeles based celebrity and fashion photographer
05:49Some of my clients have included Vogue, GQ and Vanity Fair
05:52That smile is just a million dollar smile
05:55It has dimmed a bit over the years Jerry, it's tired
05:57I don't think it could ever be tired
05:58And that's my little bang that Tyra cut for me
06:01Was that, seriously?
06:03Tyra cut that bang for me
06:04So the reason why I wanted to meet with you today is because
06:08I've been taking up photography
06:10Really?
06:11As a hobby and we have a big men's campaign coming up
06:14It's a really big deal for us
06:16And I wanted to take some of the shots of the guide
06:18When Kimora told me she wanted to shoot her own campaign
06:23I thought to myself that was like me putting down the camera
06:27And getting in front of it and trying to model
06:29Do you think you want it more lifestyle or more gritty?
06:32It's more lifestyle
06:33Because Fat Premium, we're a lifestyle brand
06:35Okay, well we can talk about just the basics first
06:38Okay
06:39My camera is not as big as any of these
06:42But we're going to transition you into the big boys
06:45Because with a brand like Fat Farm
06:47You do magazine ads and posters and billboards
06:51And we really have to shoot high-res files
06:54People always hear about megapixels
06:56Oh, it's a 12 megapixel, it's a 16
06:58Well, you know what?
06:58It's also about bit depth
07:01What we do is first meter for the ambient light
07:05From that, we meter the subject with a stroke
07:09We expose the environment with the shutter speed
07:12During my meeting with Jerry, he started talking about megapixels and megabits
07:19And it was a lot for me
07:21And I realized that this might be a little more than what I bargained for
07:25All I know is find the cute guy and shoot him
07:29What I want you to do now is to just go out and practice with it
07:32And we'll connect again
07:38Today is my second class with Ming and Aoki
07:41The first time that they were here was really just about them having fun
07:44And just getting them used to the idea of being in the kitchen
07:47All right, I'm glad we have aprons today
07:48Because last time we got a little messy
07:50Yeah
07:51Okay, today we're going to be more serious, okay?
07:54Today with the girls, we're going to be making a pounded chicken
07:57Which should be pretty easy for them
07:58Because it doesn't really involve a lot of cooking
08:00It's more about assembling
08:04So now we're going to take our chicken
08:05Ow, ow, ow, ow, ow
08:06And we're going to cut it into smaller pieces
08:14Good, perfect
08:17Hi!
08:20What's that in your hand?
08:21You know I'm almost like a professional photographer now, so I came here to take professional pictures of you.
08:28I need more practice, so who better to take pictures of than my little baby?
08:36What's that?
08:37It's called doyage. You can put it in sushi.
08:40This is our chicken.
08:43Let me see that. I want a kitty cat smile.
08:46Why do you have such a fancy camera?
08:52Because I'm shooting the campaign. We have a men's campaign coming up.
08:55You're doing the photography?
08:59Budget cut?
09:06Okay, I think our chicken's done.
09:08On that note...
09:10Ta-da!
09:12Oh, wow! Can we eat it?
09:14Yes!
09:15Voila!
09:16Voila!
09:20Cheers to our chicken.
09:21Cheers to your chicken.
09:28I'm having my second meeting today with Jerry, and this time we're actually going to go out to a park and take some actual pictures.
09:35Kimora, right now what I'm doing is I'm reading the ambient light, and it's right now reading 2.83, which is not a lot. So we're going to bring our shutter speed down to a 60th of a second, which is 563.
09:48This is very technical.
09:50It is.
09:51So Kimora really thinks that she is equipped to shoot a campaign for that premium.
09:57I want you to keep her composition fairly tight, and come down a little bit low, press this button to focus on the face, and then fire.
10:03Okay.
10:04Okay.
10:05That is too many instructions.
10:06I got it.
10:07Come in a little bit closer.
10:08She is supposed to be on this side of the camera, not that side.
10:09Come in a little closer.
10:10There you go.
10:11Oh, you're not going to like that one.
10:12You better tilt that chin a little bit.
10:13Right there.
10:14That way.
10:15Shoot it.
10:16Yeah, yeah.
10:17Turn your camera.
10:18There you go.
10:19I was involved with professionally shooting an ad campaign that I realized that I really wasn't prepared for.
10:25All the little details and things that you have to remember.
10:28It's going to be a lot.
10:29How's that working?
10:30It ain't.
10:31Kimora had problems holding the camera.
10:34She said it was too damn heavy.
10:35This is a workout.
10:36No, no, shoot it.
10:37No, shoot it.
10:38Keep shooting.
10:39Keep shooting.
10:40It absolutely had nothing to do with the model.
10:42Press the user button to get focus.
10:45Right here.
10:46Right here.
10:47Kimora's not no damn photographer.
10:49She is a model.
10:50It didn't go.
10:51I did it.
10:52It doesn't make noise.
10:53Yes, it does there.
10:55Okay.
10:56Kimora, you ready to have a look at these?
11:00Okay.
11:01I hope they're all right.
11:03Did you know the camera was a little heavy?
11:05It was a little windy.
11:06My subject isn't exactly.
11:08He looks like a supermodel to me.
11:10No, he is.
11:11But I don't have a super photographer.
11:14Here we go.
11:16I really am apprehensive to see how these are going to turn out.
11:19I don't know if we're not off to a good start.
11:25As we're going through the first couple of shots, there's some in there that are not quite
11:31to my liking.
11:33If you blow the image out, there's no getting it back.
11:41It's horrible.
11:42I can't deal with that kind of stress.
11:45This is perfect place for me to jump.
11:47We're preparing for our spring ad campaign for Fat Premium.
12:04I've decided to shoot the campaign myself.
12:07So I've been practicing with my friend Jerry's $50,000 camera.
12:12However, the practice shots are not looking professional.
12:15And I'm feeling a little nervous.
12:17Yeah, go to the next one.
12:22It's horrible.
12:26You want to err on the side of underexposure, because you can always pop it up.
12:35But if you blow the image out, there's no getting it back.
12:38The first shots Kimora took weren't all that good.
12:41But I did see some improvement along the way.
12:44And none of this is color corrected yet.
12:46We can desaturate it.
12:48So what we're going to do to make that pop now, we're going to add about another 20 points
12:53in contrast.
12:54And that looks pretty cool.
12:56It's very important to me that the shoot is up to my standards of fabulosity.
13:01So I need more practice.
13:02Chris, it's a pleasure.
13:03I'll be practicing the children.
13:05If I mess it up, I'll throw it on you.
13:08Bye.
13:09Bye-bye.
13:15The Fat Premium shoot features a sexy model with a vintage car.
13:19So I'm taking more practice shots of Christopher at a classic car showroom.
13:23Come over here, Chris, by the door and be my man.
13:26You don't know what you're doing.
13:28I can't believe it!
13:30Christopher still doubted my abilities.
13:32Stay on this side of the camera, not that side.
13:35Defy the haters.
13:36Just ignore the haters, honey, and keep on going.
13:39Let me get the eyes of the demon.
13:41Come on, demon.
13:45Open the door and lean up against it.
13:47Put one foot inside.
13:48Oh, you look so nice, honey.
13:50I have practiced it.
13:53I have taken great pictures.
13:54And they've come out really wonderfully.
13:56So I know that I can do this.
14:05Let's go.
14:07Hi!
14:08Hi, guys!
14:10Whoa!
14:11What's this?
14:12We want to make pasta for Mommy at her photo shoot.
14:15Are we putting Mommy's lunch in here?
14:17Is that what this is for?
14:18Yep.
14:19Okay, perfect.
14:20Because I thought what we would make today...
14:21Pasta.
14:22Yes, we're going to make pasta and naoki.
14:24We're going to make turkey meatballs.
14:25Mmm!
14:26During our last session, Ming had whispered to me that she wanted to make something for her
14:31mom.
14:32So that's what we're going to be doing today.
14:34This is our turkey meat.
14:35Good.
14:36Who wants to do the garlic powder?
14:38I'll do it.
14:39Half a teaspoon.
14:40It's all we need to do.
14:41It's so big.
14:42It's so garlicky.
14:43I wonder why.
14:44Meatballs a la yokey.
14:45They've definitely come a long way since their first day with me.
14:46Perfect.
14:47Does Mommy know that you're making lunch for her or is it a surprise?
14:48It's a surprise.
14:49Surprise!
14:50Surprise!
14:51Who likes pasta?
14:52Me.
14:53So, now that we've rolled our dough, we're going to shape it into spaghetti.
15:09Look what you made.
15:10Pasta!
15:11We'll just make a little portion for mom just like that.
15:13She going to get a meatball?
15:14Yes, she's going to get her super meatball.
15:17I'm going to make it for mom.
15:18I know you're going to make it for mom.
15:19I'm going to make it for mom.
15:20I'm going to make it for mom.
15:21she's going to get her super meatball okay you guys mom's lunch is ready don't forget

16:31and set

17:45off the set and running home and getting in the bed and getting under the covers i can't i can't
17:49deal with that kind of stress this is perfect place for me to jump we're not worried about the
17:54focus we're not worried about focus there's a lot of technicalities that i was not prepared for
18:03it's just a lot of monitoring and measuring the light and there's a lot of little technicalities that i
18:30really wasn't prepared for i'm not worried about the focus we're not worried about focus don't worry
18:35about the focus just fire away so i'm very relieved that jerry is here to sort of help me execute
18:41my vision for this ad campaign to be successful in any photo should be malleable tomorrow was a
18:47little overwhelmed with the level of equipment that we were using but i know she's going to handle it

19:20oh yes that angle's good right and the light like that yes the light looks good like this this is a
19:25good fill on the skin right it is the golden light on the beautiful boy's skin i feel a little better

21:36i'm really proud my girls learned how to cook and that's a very important lesson in life because
21:41it doesn't matter whether you are young or an adult it's never too late to learn to tackle new skills and
21:48new challenges
