Global strategist Robinder Sachdev highlights China’s influence in ongoing India-Pak tensions

New Delhi, 12th May 2025 (ANI):  Foreign Affairs Expert Robinder Sachdev shared critical insights on the ongoing India-Pakistan tensions, stating that China exerts significant influence over the Pakistani military and intelligence apparatus.

00:00Even if the Pakistan army or the top leadership of Pakistan had agreed to pause, you know, all conflict,

00:09there are factions within the Pakistan army which are not happy with this decision at all.

00:15Do not forget China.

00:17China has enough or some influence amongst the Pakistani intelligence and military.

00:23It is also in the interest and it benefits China if the Pakistan-India conflict continues

00:29because the more it continues, the more it draws in India.

00:33The Director General of Military Operation DGMOs of India and Pakistan will take place on Monday evening.

00:41Official sources sent that.

00:43Certainly, you know, the meeting between the two DGMOs is expected today, was at 12 noon.

00:50Now it's supposed to be at 5 o'clock in the evening.

00:53There could be some, you know, matters which are continuing to be resolved, some nuances to be worked out.

00:58And so I think definitely, yes, there is nothing much to read as of now in this delay.

01:05This delay can be due to some basic reasons because, you know, once the understanding had been reached between India and Pakistan

01:14that cross-border firing would stop between the two nations, slowly and slowly, almost all, you know, violations have stopped by now.

01:23Some were continuing until yesterday also.

01:25And it happens.

01:27It's in the nature of war and, you know, ceasefires or a potential, you know, pause in the conflict

01:35that some Chutmut incidents keep happening.

01:38So I think they have now petered out and the DGMO meetings will be held in the evening.

01:44Also, PM will talk India accused Pakistan of ceasefire violation hour after Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri announced

01:54that India and Pakistan have reached an understanding to stop all firing and military action on land, air and sea

02:03with immediate effect late on Saturday, sir.

02:07See, the Prime Minister holding a meeting with the top brass of the army and our security establishment

02:13before the DGMO meetings, I think is the right logical thing because the political leadership

02:20has to give an overarching direction to the military leadership before the DGMO goes into a conversation

02:28with his counterpart in Pakistan.

02:31So I think that was very much needed as part of the process.

02:35That is one.

02:36Secondly, in terms of the violations which occurred after the understanding was reached,

02:41my understanding is that even if the Pakistan army or the top leadership of Pakistan had agreed

02:49to pause, you know, all conflict, there are factions within the Pakistan army

02:56which are not happy with this decision at all.

02:58There are Jihadi, Ghazi-minded officials in the Pakistan army.

03:03They would have done something at their own level to continue the conflict.

03:08And secondly, do not forget China.

03:11China has enough or some influence amongst the Pakistani intelligence and military apparatus.

03:17And on the instigation of China, some of these officials may have also continued to launch,

03:27you know, minor attacks on India to keep the, to, in order to maybe even spoil the understanding

03:33because it is not in their interest, it is not in the interest of the Ghazis and the diehard

03:40jihadis that this war should stop.

03:43It is also in the interest and it benefits China if the Pakistan-India conflict continues

03:49because the more it continues, the more it draws in India.

03:53So there could be some such elements who would have had continued some sporadic incidents.

04:00But overall, with time, I think in the last 24 hours or 36 hours,

04:06there is now a pause in any incidents across the border.

04:11Also, sir, while the DVR migrates and the Indian military shows the leverage of likely PL-15 air-to-air missile,

04:22which is of Chinese origin and was used by Pakistan during the attack on India,

04:28the wreckage of the Chinese origin, Y-I-H-A-N drones that were shot down by India has also been shown.

04:41No, certainly, you know, these are the spoils or you can say the treasures of war.

04:46Once we get these, you know, wreckages or pieces that we recover,

04:51we can get to reverse engineer and very well understand the Chinese technology

04:56which goes into the weapons that had been used by the Pakistanis.

05:01Similarly, the Turkish Songar drones and other drones.

05:04So I would think and every right-thinking person would think that this is a treasure trove of information.

05:11Now we can re-engineer and find out better as to what electronics,

05:16jammers and what all engineering is there in the Chinese drones or missiles which Pakistan had used.

05:24And in fact, this would be helpful to us in a situation in future with China.

05:30So this is gold for us.

05:34Also during this period, the character of terrorist activities have changed.

05:40Innocent civilians were being attacked.

05:43Pahalgao take paap ka ye ghada bher chuka hai.

05:49See what the DGMO said about the changing nature of terrorism is absolutely on the mark.

05:57Over the years, as Kashmir has transitioned towards democracy, right, with a local election out there,

06:07and along with it, the security arrangements have been tightened up,

06:11the terrorists, the radicals are finding it extremely difficult to target the army,

06:17which they earlier used to, and our security forces.

06:20So now they are picking soft targets, and especially soft targets to hurt India's economy,

06:31Kashmir's economy and India's economy overall.

06:34You know, when tourists get killed in Kashmir, obviously through the nation it sends a shock wave.

06:39So it is an economic hit on India, in addition to being a terror hit,

06:45and in addition to being a hit to divide, to break the unity of the country.

06:51So the changing pattern of these terror attacks is very much evident, I would say.

06:58Also, aerial vehicle employed by Pakistan were also throwed by the India geniusly,

07:08developed soft and hard kill counter UAS system, and the well-trained India air defense personnel.

07:16See, in addition to the various other success stories of our forces in this Pahalgaam conflict,

07:24conflict, I would say, one very important learning outcome demonstration has been of our air defense systems.

07:35I would, in fact, appeal that the air defense systems of India, the indigenous ones,

07:42we have a mix, we have some imported joint venture also, but I am talking the indigenous ones,

07:47which are manufactured in India, like the Akash, QR SAM, MR SAM, etc.

07:52We should talk more about them.

07:56See, in the Iraq war, the scud missiles became very famous.
