Tenby's beacon lighting ceremony concludes VE Day 80th anniversary

Tenby’s 80th anniversary VE Day celebrations yesterday evening, culminated in a beacon lighting ceremony on Castle Hill, proceeded by a parade through the Walled Town.
The beacon lighting took place under the Prince Albert memorial at 9.30 pm, with the Proclamation being read,
and pipes and community singing of ‘I Vow to Thee My Country’.
The parade to the beacon started at 9 pm, forming up outside St Mary’s Church, before make its way through the town centre up to Castle Hill.
Piper Graham Phillips led the way, before the community singing of ‘I Vow to Thee My Country’.
At 9.25 pm, The Town Crier Erin Morgan read the VE Day Tribute at Castle Hill, before local War Veteran Duncan Hilling lit the beacon to form part of a national chain to be followed by the singing of the National Anthems.
Throughout Thursday, May 8, the seaside town paid its respects to commemorate the historic 80th anniversary.
Proceedings started at 9 am, with the Town Crier reading the VE Day Proclamation on the town walls turret, followed by the raising of the VE Day flag.
The wreath laying ceremony at the War Memorial on South Parade then took place at 11 am.
Continuing the programme of events for the day, organised by the Town Council, alongside the local branch of the Royal British Legion - at 6.30 pm, the Peal of Bells from St Mary’s Church took place to coincide with a national peal.
