VE Day celebrations in Pembroke Dock

80th anniversary VE Day celebrations have been taking place in Pembroke Dock today. This morning, newly installed Mayor Michele Wiggins and Deputy mayor Tony Wilcox raised of the VE Day 80 flag on The Pater Hall, then it was back to the Town Council office for coffee and cake. The Lighting of the Beacon cermony will take place tonight in the Memorial Park at 9.30 pm; where the Vision Arts Choir will be singing wartime songs prior to this, starting at 9 pm.

00:0680 years ago today, the United Kingdom and its allies from around the globe celebrated VE Day, the end of the war in Europe.

00:15Today, as we come together to commemorate what came to be known as VE Day,

00:20our thoughts termed thanksgiving and remembrance of those millions that gave so much to achieve the freedom we all enjoy today.

00:28We remember those we lost, those who were wounded or scarred, those whose lives were forever changed by the war.

00:36Nobody was immune from the impact of that terrible conflict.

00:40Let us pause to remember their sacrifice.

00:43We reflect too upon the words of our late and glorious Queen Elizabeth,

00:47Never give up, never disser.

00:49And so we offer thanksgiving for the selflessness of those who have raised so much in all the future generations,

00:57who should enjoy the blessing of freedom, democracy and peace.
