Edgar, a young man in his 20s goes on social media everyday. He lives and breathes Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat. Edgar soon questions the meaning of the platforms and any kind of use for it.
Transcript
02:30Why did life become so challenging since social media came into our lives?
02:35I did Instagram and Twitter, you know, became a burden to me to use on a daily basis.
02:44I dare you to have the answers to those problematic questions.
02:50Now, let me start from the very beginning, not from when I was a little fetus, but, you know, nah.
02:59But my introduction, my name's Egger, and his name's not important, besides that it's personal.
03:10Unless you want to follow your boy on the gram at EggerT underscore 42069.
03:19All right, here's a little, here it is, 23 years old, Northern California kid, so if I say hello too much, just DM me, or something in that matter.
03:38You know what's going on here, right?
03:42Or am I having some kind of fever dream?
03:46I can't focus doing something without being, without having to check on something important.
03:53Did you hear how it sounded earlier?
03:57Like, follow your boy on the gram?
04:02DM me something in that matter.
04:05Wait, is that a Boston accent?
04:07In that matter?
04:07Okay, no, it's like Italian, right?
04:10I don't know, fucking know.
04:12It doesn't matter, I mean, what the hell?
04:16What, what is that, you know?
04:19I sound like a cyborg, or a human, and android, or, you know, whatever like that.
04:26Social media's possessive, don't get it twisted.
04:30Smartphone, good.
04:32Instagram, bad.
04:33Snapchat, bad.
04:34It says, um, fucking, face it back.
04:42Fucking mad, man.
04:56We're awfully turned on by good news everyone is sharing on the, on the platforms, like, sharing a new movie role, or,
05:04or, being booked, or, new books being made, or, being interviewed like a high scholar, or,
05:12it all seems like a competition every day, you know, for anyone who's in the same position of what he or she loves doing.
05:23For instance, photography, writing, filmmaking, and broadcasting, uh, whatever it is, it may, that I'm coming off envious, but I'm real appreciative for the others, 100%, 100%.
05:43We're consumed, a lot, of the times, by the fixation of the grits, and the grammar, uh, on social media.
05:59But, for instance, you know, show this dude showing off their physique, and, um, I don't know why I did it like that, but,
06:08supermodels, and, um, making no other man, like myself, feel insecure.
06:15It's the realness, though.
06:23I feel that on a daily, you see this, all this, it's like scars, and, all that shit.
06:34This is the prime example of, this is the prime example of looking hideous as shit.
06:39But, that, and the fact I gained weight over the years, losing my, losing my, uh, toned six-pack when I was, like, 16, you know, that right there, there was a go-getter.
06:58Why do I have to feel imperfect 24-7, considering there's pretty girls, wouldn't go for, uh, you know, a gentleman like me.
07:09A fellow would like me.
07:17Or dudes, with jawlines, are sharp as hell.
07:22I had to touch on that for a little bit, for a little, uh, having it bottle inside is just the worst.
07:34It's the worst, man.
07:35Hey, Edgar here.
07:40Of course, I'm the only one that's here, though, on the entire time.
07:45Anyways, let's move on to the, the nitty-gritty, okay?
07:50You know, it's the blue tick of the stamp on, uh, famous people's Instagram, like, celebrities and shit.
07:54Uh, like, you know, for instance, you know, uh, Dwayne, The Rock, Johnson.
08:01You know, like, fuckin', what is it, like, 145 million followers on Instagram?
08:07I don't fuckin' know what it's, it's right there.
08:10Uh, that's a clarification, also, with a verification checkmark.
08:14To know you're a fuckin' big shot.
08:18You're a fuckin' big shot, kid.
08:20Like, from, from Boston.
08:21Okay, uh, that's it.
08:24Um.
08:24High-named in social media platforms.
08:30This is what I hate about it, frankly.
08:34Why do I need to gain a mass following status to feel more, sort of, an invincibility?
08:42Hmm?
08:43Yeah, I don't know.
08:46I mean, hell do I do something, uh, controversial, or, just silly, or, uh, pus, fuck, or, plus,
08:58mother fucker, mother sucker, a, a publicity stunt to uphold my numbers up to, you know, satisfy my followers amount, whatever.
09:11Or, I'm on the, uh, there.
09:15I mean, that metaphorically.
09:19When will there be a time to be your forlickly?
09:24Well, please, about all things considered, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, Facebook, yeah, yeah.
09:41You didn't see that.
10:06You didn't see that.
10:07Fuckin' motherfucker.
10:11I know what you're thinking, right?
10:13Pathetic.
10:15It's real pathetic.
10:17We can't last one to five hours without our extravagant smartphones.
10:24To stare, you know, stare mindlessly at like I have right here.
10:29It's not a great device we have.
10:32That's not the problem.
10:34The problem is Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, Facebook.
10:40You name it.
10:42As the kids say it, snap.
10:44Anyway, the problem is how disgracefully formatted it is.
10:51How everything is a damn competition to life.
10:56It's in the virtual world, of course.
10:59I'll save it.
11:00I'm disgusted by what we got to enjoy by posting, liking, commenting, DMing, sharing into stories.
11:11Whichever.
11:12Whatever.
11:13You know?
11:13It's not fun anymore.
11:15I mean, first we had MySpace.
11:18Let me elaborate here for a little bit.
11:22MySpace.
11:23Yeah.
11:24We had Tom Anderson as a friend.
11:28As a first friend, internet friend.
11:30He was a...
11:31We had top eight, right?
11:33And he created that top eight.
11:36Tom Anderson.
11:37If you're watching, you're my homie.
11:39I love you.
11:40You're my boy.
11:41I appreciate you.
11:43And, yeah.
11:45Think about the top eight we had.
11:47We could add music.
11:51We had the small mirror pictures we could have, you know, added and attached to.
11:56Like, friggin'.
11:57It was a Tumblr.
11:58I did early 2000s.
12:00That was revolutionary.
12:05Let's see.
12:06We got smartphones.
12:09Which is good for a good use.
12:12Yeah, we had MySpace, I think.
12:14And I wasn't old enough to use it, but I still know what it was all about, of course.
12:22I had older siblings.
12:25And I was born in the late 90s, so there's that.
12:29I just want to clarify again.
12:35No, fuck that.
12:37Just keep going.
12:39But, you know, those are soothing times for Facebook.
12:42You know, like, Tom Anderson being our first internet friend.
12:47You know, my first internet friend.
12:49And, you know what?
12:52He's a homie.
12:53He's my boy.
12:54I fuck with him.
12:57I love him.
12:58True.
12:58I kind of miss Tom Anderson and friggin' putting, like, Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, Usher,
13:10oh, fuck else is it, Akon, on my, uh, top eight, on my, well, had my older brother do it for me, I guess.
13:18I'm not sure.
13:19I don't remember.
13:20I had a bad memory, actually, apparently.
13:42Just now, I figured this out.
13:44I figured it out.
13:45I conceptualized it.
13:47I'll have a ton of followers one day.
13:52Or at least, shit, I, at least, I hope I will.
13:57It just won't happen overnight or magically in a section of one day.
14:02Or, you know, I've been waiting as long since 2012 when I joined Instagram.
14:09I get that virtual love and appreciation from lots of, you know, people maybe the next 10 to 10.
14:1720 years or so.
14:19Who knows, really?
14:21Who knows?
14:22It could be, uh, you know, one year or it could be another year.
14:26There's no other solution to be well-known on the gram or Twitter.
14:34This ain't no happy ending, although whatever habits must occur for a reason, right?
14:39It's been a hell of a pointing view to look onto, though.
14:44It's been a damn good story to tell your friends.
14:51Maybe I want to be instant famous or whatever you'll label it.
14:56As of right now, I'm a California dude just chilling like a villain.
15:01Hey, that was fucking dope as shit.
15:04No, Pinterest.
15:05Pinterest, yeah, I don't know what the fuck is Pinterest, okay?
15:08But Pinterest, I heard a lot about it.
15:10I thought it was mainly a chick for, like, a woman's website.
15:17But I'm not going to be totally incorrect about that.
15:20Instagram was popular in the 2012 era.
15:28And, like, it has that hipster vibe at that time.
15:31Friggin, like, Arizona tees and Vans, Converse, and all that shit.
15:40You know, it's, it's com- it's com- here, look.
15:44For example, let me show you something.
15:45Let me show you something.
15:47Okay.
15:48Alright, hey.
15:49Hey.
15:50I can hear you.
15:52Uh, let me see- you see this?
15:54I don't know if I'm sure you see it, but it's a little- it might be a little glare.
15:57Here, let me show you.
15:59That's Dwayne The Rock Johnson.
16:04You know, he has 301 million followers.
16:08I thought he had, like, 125.
16:12Like, what the fuck?
16:14Founder?
16:15Yeah, founder my ass.
16:23Hey, guys.
16:24Edgar here.
16:27Not Edgar Wright, okay?
16:29Not Edgar Wright.
16:30Although I love that guy.
16:32I love Sean O'Badette.
16:33I love Hot Fuzz.
16:35I love The World's End.
16:37I love Spaced.
16:40Even though I saw, like, a couple episodes.
16:42I'm sorry, Edgar Wright.
16:43But, hey.
16:45We still have the same name.
16:46I think I got something here.
16:49Alright.
16:50Here, I got it right here.
16:51I was, like, the Asian Bruce Lee at the time.
16:54I was, like, 17, 16.
16:55I'm not sure.
16:56But take a look.
16:58Take a look at that.
16:59I'm not sure if there's a glare.
17:01But I have fucking dudes flexing on their social medias with their six-packs abs.
17:06And, like, I had that, too.
17:09I had that, too.
17:09I had that ego.
17:11And now, I don't.
17:13I'm, like, 23.
17:15And, um, I fucking, I have a slob of fat.
17:18I have, like, beer belly.
17:20It's not fun.
17:20It's not good looking.
17:22It's not attractive.
17:24Like, shit.
17:25Take a look.
17:26Can you see that?
17:27Yeah.
17:29Yeah.
17:30Like, I work hard for that shit.
17:31Like, I was, like, what?
17:34A sophomore in high school.
17:36And, like, I was working out every day.
17:37And now, I got a, I got older and a little chubbier and, uh, yeah, got a little more up.
17:49I'm not, no, I'm not, I'm not going to do this as self-judgment.
17:52But, no, this is a place for positivity right here.
17:57Yeah, it's positivity.
17:58You know what?
18:08Gotta do it for the guy in the chair.
18:13No?
18:14Yeah?
18:14Okay.
18:20For the ending message, I, like you're here, will say, use social media.
18:28On a limited time base, if you will.
18:34Or, you know, um, limited down.
18:37Or, uh, I'm not going to tell you what to do, of course.
18:40Lending your time on social media.
18:43Because it could prevail, you know, your positivity and enlightenment onto your reality, your real life.
18:56What not?
18:57For me, I try not, I try not to stay on my iPhone right here for, like, on a 24-7 basis.
19:06It's just, like, it's, it's tiring, you know?
19:11It's, like, it's so tiring, it's exhausting.
19:14It's, like, wow, it's, like, it's not, like, a basic base right now.
19:17Like, I don't, like, right now, look, I'm, I'm using it.
19:21Like, I can't get off it.
19:23Like, it's useful.
19:25Like, if only you use it for a proper good use.
19:29You know what I mean?
19:30Not, like, for, um, not for, like, uh, not for, like, uh, something that's negative.
19:37Like, there's pros and cons to it.
19:39Like, you know?
19:40This shit's addictive, you know?
19:41It looks like it's for good use.
19:43If you put it for good use, that's, that's absolutely, you know, uh, that's absolutely, uh, fuck.
19:53That's actually, that's absolutely necessary.
19:58That's a necessity.
20:00And, um, yeah, well, this is your boy, Edgar.
20:09Um, actually, no, no.
20:11But I also have to say, uh, Twitter, Twitter, you know, I'm gonna touch base on that.
20:18Uh, you know, follow your boy, uh, Edgar.
20:23Underscore T42069.
20:28I can't believe I said that shit again.
20:31But for real though, uh, could be controversial depending on what you say, depending on what
20:40you retweet, um, could be, uh, uh, a little, you know, I don't fucking know.
20:47But, like, it's good to, you know, hear what your, hear what celebrities have to say, you
20:52know, like, freaking Justin Bieber and, um, keep in mind, I love me some Justin Bieber.
21:00Like, like that dude, that dude got some good intentions.
21:04No pun intended.
21:05Um, besides the point, and Facebook, Facebook can be real dangerous if you, uh, you use it
21:16too much.
21:17I should just, I mean, I highly don't use it as, as a fair use that much, that often.
21:25And I try, I'm gonna be real with you guys.
21:29Your boy, Edgar, deleted his Instagram, like, a couple years ago, or a year ago.
21:38You know, because, uh, you know, you got that, um, social media mentality, mentality crisis
21:50going on.
21:52And, um, you know, it happens to, uh, it happens to, uh, you know, several people.
21:58I, I could just tell.
21:59Um, and there's, uh, bullying, harassment on Facebook.
22:04Uh, of course, you don't have to hear it from me.
22:07You know, you get it from, you know, whole school assembly.
22:10It's best to, like, block and move on.
22:14But if it's not easy, you gotta, you gotta fight.
22:18And then, but that, if you have no other choice, you gotta, you know, keep fighting.
22:24You gotta keep going.
22:25Uh, what else I'm gonna touch base on is Snapchat.
22:28I guess, like, people, the millennials, Gen Z, we still use that shit, you know?
22:34Like, we still use that.
22:36Of course.
22:37Like, right, for instance, I'm gonna Snapchat something right now.
22:41No, fuck that.
22:43I'm not gonna use my phone.
22:45But I had Snapchat since I was, like, since 2013.
22:50I could care less about it.
22:53If I had to choose two social medias I could fuck with for the rest of my life.
23:00It would be Instagram and Twitter.
23:03But that's only, um, it's only, uh, I could try to.
23:09Facebook, Snapchat, there you go.
23:14So, but, that's kind of like a kill, um, a fuck, marry, kill kind of scenario situation.
23:23Um, uh, yeah.
23:36It's just, uh, it's just how, you know, it's just how, um, how well you provide your time and good usage onto the social media platforms.
23:49And, um, you know, I'm not, like, a networking or platforming, you know, individual fellow or I'm not, like, you know, someone to turn to.
24:00So, I'm not someone to turn to for, like, advice, for technical, um, tips or whatnot, you know what I'm saying?
24:08But, you know, it's life.
24:13It's life.
24:14And so, whatever you use, use it for a certain amount.
24:19Uh, but, that's for me.
24:21You know, that's for me.
24:23Uh, for the future, Edgar.
24:26Edgar, you're watching this?
24:28Um, use social media on in moderation, dude.
24:33Fuck.
24:33Wait, what is that?
24:35Oh.
24:36See, it's kind of toxic.
24:40I'm not going to lie.
24:41It has, it has its, you know, smartphones.
24:44It could be, it could have its tuxis, tuxiszy.
24:50Mother, mother sucker.
24:51It could have its tuxiszy.
24:55It could be toxic.
24:56There, I'm just going to say it like that.
24:58I was going to say it.
25:00No.
25:00Mother sucker.
25:14Yeah, well, if you use it for calling, texting.
25:19You are a, um, you're a real one.
25:28You're a real one.
25:29Uh, my fellow, my fellow, uh, peoples.
25:37You know, that's blousey.
25:48No, no, don't, don't pick up the fucking phone, Edgar.
25:54You don't make it such a shit.
25:55But like I said, though, like I said, though, remember what Edgar said.
26:04Not every, uh, storyline has its happy ending, but, although, there's lessons to learn here.
26:11There's proper good lessons to learn here.
26:13And I'm talking to whoever is listening.
26:17I hope I helped a lot of, uh, you know, um, FOMO, uh, you know, individuals.
26:25You know, FOMO, it's like, uh, I don't know what it stands for.
26:29Uh, what is it?
26:30Uh, frequently, uh, on my phone, I guess.
26:35I don't fucking know.
26:36But, it could be potentially that.
26:39But, I could, you know, I could be, for one, self-described as FOMO on, um, on a daily, which is not good.
26:48But, you know, it's proper lessons to learn, ladies and gents.
26:55Uh, but, you know, it's, uh, something I gotta keep in mind for, you know, the future, uh, and your, your future, uh, of the days in the life of Edgar.
27:07But, you know, it's something to, like, think it over, you know?
27:14You know, um, we either, we're just, um, the innocent ones who're using these platforms.
27:21But, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not gonna call out any founders.
27:26Who would have thought, uh, being famous or infamous would make you, you know, king of the world, queen of the world, but, you know, oh, some sort.
27:40You know, if you're in my shoes, you struggle with the social media and how it turns to, you know, good and bad, of course.
27:53Like, it's all about the likes and ratio and it's, it triggers with your mind sometimes, you know what I mean?
27:59Like, you can't, you just can't believe it.
28:03You can't.
28:05But, still, still, just remember.
28:10Every tale does not have a happy ending.
28:14You know, uh, it's like learning lessons to have in life.
28:21Just remember that.
