PM: We'll do whatever within our means in tackling US tariffs

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim told participants at the official opening of the Clinical Research Malaysia (CRM) Trial Connect 2025 on Thursday (May 8) that while Malaysia adopts a cautious and prudent approach in addressing the tariff issue concerning the United States, the government will also push for made-in-Malaysia products such as solar panels in the country. 00:00We are facing somewhat uncertainty with the latest Trump, President Trump's pronouncements

00:16on tariffs.

00:19So we have a choice just to wait or do whatever is necessary within our means, which means

00:28therefore to collaborate with research to ensure that we affect this change and implement

00:35these reforms as fast as possible.

00:39I gave an example yesterday or before when meeting ECRL personnel.

00:46There was a decision to clamp, basically by imposing high tariffs to solar panels from

00:56Malaysia.

00:57Then we checked if the solar panels are made in Malaysia but through Chinese investors.

01:07So what do we do?

01:07Do we wait?

01:09Okay, we negotiate.

01:11We send teams, a meeting minister, led by a meeting minister, to negotiate.

01:16But meanwhile, there are things that we can do.

01:17For example, all new hospitals, which is being implemented by the Ministry of Health, all

01:25new schools, government buildings, and encourage the private sector, use solar panels made in

01:34Malaysia.

01:35And we just wait until we face or encounter this problem.
