04:39I would like to invite the Mayor to lay the reef on behalf of the people of the town.

05:34If there's anybody else that has a reef that they would like to lay, would you do that

07:01who came home, wounded physically and mentally, and the friends and family who cared for them.

07:12Let us remember those who returned to restore their relationships and rebuild their working and family lives

07:22after years of conflict and turmoil.

07:28Let us remember the families that lost husbands, wives, sons, daughters and sweethearts.

07:38Let us remember the servicemen and women of other nationalities and other states

07:45from the Commonwealth and allied countries who fought, suffered and died during six years of war.

07:57Let us remember those in reserved occupations and the brave people who kept us safe on the home front,

08:07the doctors, nurses who cared for the wounded, the men and women who toiled in the fields,

08:17the fishermen who fished the seas, those who worked in factories and air raid wardens, police officers, firemen, ambulance drivers,

08:31and the young people of the scouts and guides who played such a vital role in the war effort at home too.

08:41And finally, we remember those named on the memorial here in the heart of our town.

08:56So let us pray.

08:58O God of truth and justice, we hold before you those men and women who have died in active service,

09:08particularly in the Second World War, who sacrificed for victory in Europe.

09:15As we honour their courage and cherish their memory, may we put our faith in your future,

09:22for you are the source of life and hope, now and for ever.

09:27Amen.

09:28We pray for nations still devastated by war, for their people and their leaders,

09:36and for those who suffer the effects or memories of past wars, for veterans, for those who mourn,

09:44and for all innocent victims whose lives have been shattered by the cruelty of others.

09:50Let us give thanks to those who work for peace and liberty throughout the world.

09:57And so we ask for God's blessing.

10:00God grant to the living race, to the departed rest, to the church, the king, the commonwealth,

10:09and all people, peace and comfort, and to us and all his servants, life everlasting.

10:18And the blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit be upon you and remain with you always.
