00:07better at it and recently astronomers were able to capture this image where every little

00:12white dot in this photo is a black hole pretty cool but this is just a small portion of the sky

00:17and after crunching some numbers scientists say they have a pretty good estimate of just

00:21how many black holes there are in the universe according to researchers from the International

00:25School of Advanced Studies in Italy there are likely 40 quintillion or this many black holes

00:30in the universe they say this is the most exhaustive ab initio or from the beginning computational

00:35approaches to black hole estimations ever done according to science alert the researchers use

00:40data from black holes that form from single or binary stars and those that were the outcome of

00:45black hole mergers this data helped them to come up with the birth rate of stellar mass black holes

00:49or those that are between five and one hundred and sixty times the mass of our own sun and when

00:54compared to observational data we have on black holes specifically their gravitational wave data

00:59it checks out so while we still don't know a whole lot about these dark cosmic objects at

01:03least we're now getting a better idea of just how pervasive they are
