00:00Mock drills are being conducted across the country in the wake of the April 22
00:14Pehlgam terror attack which claimed the lives of 26 civilians.
00:18But what is a mock drill? A mock drill aims to prepare citizens for possible aerial attacks
00:24or missile strikes. The Ministry of Home Affairs on May 5 had instructed the Northern
00:29and Western states along with Union Territories to conduct civil defence mock drills on May 7.
00:34The directive said that during the drills, the civilians will be trained to protect themselves
00:39in a war-like situation. This comes amid heightened tension between India and Pakistan
00:44following the terror attack in Kashmir.
00:59The mock drills will be focusing on air raids, siren alerts and mass evacuations across 244
01:12districts according to the reports. Crash blackout measures will also be implemented
01:18when all visible lights will be shut down to prevent easy sighting during nighttime surveillance
01:23or a potential missile strike. Measures will also be taken to quickly shut off lights and power
01:29during emergencies and to camouflage or hide important buildings and installations.
01:34The drills will provide training for civilians and students in civil defence measures
01:38to ensure safety during a potential attack. SDRF, NDRF, civil defence volunteers, NCC and scouts
01:45will be involved in conducting the drills. Experts advise using natural bunker-like structures
01:51such as thick concrete walls or subways for shelter during potential attacks.
01:56In the early hours today, May 7, India launched Operation Sindhoor,
01:59allegedly targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
