00:00This is a huge victory for George Simeon, 40%, that's 10% more than the polls had predicted,

00:0620% more than the candidates who arrived in second and third position for this first round.

00:13This confirms the rise of the far right in Romania.

00:16George Simeon's party, our Alliance for the Unity of Romanians,

00:20is already the second party in Parliament.

00:22It was created in 2019 and then gained traction through the COVID and anti-vax movement.

00:31George Simeon is 38 years old.

00:34He is the leader of the OUT party.

00:37He founded that party and he aligns himself clearly with Donald Trump's political agenda and ideological line.

00:46He is also very critical of Brussels.

00:49He campaigned mainly on social media, as we had already seen with the other candidate,

00:55Colin Georgescu, who won the first round of the nulled presidential election last year.

01:00And he promised that if he becomes president, then Colin Georgescu will be in power through one way or the other.

01:08So they also voted together yesterday.

01:10They're kind of this tandem of the far right right now.

01:14Whether he will keep his promises, we will have to see.

01:17And the runoff is planned for May 18th.
