The Canberra Times political reporter Brittney Levinson speaks to independent Jessie Price as early numbers for the seat of Bean look to be in her favour.

00:00Okay, so you just have a quick look at the results. How are you feeling?

00:03Total joy, incredibly hopeful. It's close, you know, Anthony Green's called it, but that's not that easy.

00:11So yeah, we'll just keep an eye on the numbers, but it feels incredibly positive and it has felt positive.

00:18And you said before it's definitely doable. Is that how you're feeling at the moment?

00:22There's a definite pathway to victory with the preferences, so yeah, remain absolutely positive and hopeful about it.

00:29And how have you felt today? What was the sort of general chit-chat you've been having with voters out on the streets?

00:35It's been, from the beginning, there's been such a mood for changing me and to have a viable, strong, community-independent organisation.

00:42It's just been such a positive and the fact that we've had new volunteers, like signing up for free is going to be,

00:48more people joining in and being part of it, I think just stick to the mood.

00:52You know, if these results come through, it is, you know, it's there.

00:56And I was just having a look, based on, you know, it was a 12% margin of labour,

01:01and for you to now win this thing, they call that a surprise victory.

01:05Is it a surprise to you if you knew it, or is it something that you thought was definitely going to happen to you?

01:10I definitely did not assume it would happen or felt sure that it would happen,

01:15but I did know, you know, being out and speak with people in the room, it was so clear,

01:20and now have a fight for something different and stronger, and we have to have our own voice in there,

01:24and I don't know if that's so much fun.

01:26The vibe out there is pretty good. Are you going to celebrate in any particular way tomorrow if you do?

01:33I think we'll be doing loads of media tomorrow.

01:36Probably.

01:37Probably get a little sleep in it at some point, as you know.
