00:00Hello and welcome back to The Watchlist. I'm Lindsay Melchick. Giant Mining, an exploration
00:10company currently exploring the Majuba Hill project located northeast of Reno, has recently
00:16announced they have assays pending from their 2025 drill program. So here to dissect some of
00:23that is Leo Hathaway, geologist at Giant Mining. Hello Leo, it's great to meet you.
00:28Hi, great to meet you.
00:31So let's jump right into your press release. The news mentions a strong presence of native
00:36copper cuprite and chalcopyrite. So can you explain the significance of these minerals
00:42and really what they indicate about the underlying copper system?
00:48Yeah, so these are minerals that are enriched in the upper levels of a porphyry copper system.
00:56So they're really high grade and what they tell us is that below this high grade cap there's
01:07a lot more depth to the copper mineralization below that. So it's a really good indication
01:15and I guess the other thing to mention would be that the metallurgy of these minerals is
01:21excellent. So in terms of getting the copper out of those minerals, then it's cheap and easy to do.
01:28Well, that's intriguing news right out of the gate there. So how does the Majuba Hills geology
01:33compare with other major porphyry copper systems that you've worked on globally? I mean, really,
01:38like what stands out the most for you? Well, so the reason I got involved with this is because
01:44there's a number of things about Majuba Hill that is atypical and kind of break the rules. It's not
01:53where most copper porphyry deposits in Nevada are. So it's sitting in a bit of an odd place.
02:02The timing, you know, we have ways to date the mineralization in porphyry coppers.
02:10It's not quite what it should be. There's a few different dates, which means that there's been an
02:18extremely long, um, uh, spanning, um, sequence of, of, of copper mineralization that's taken place.
02:29And, you know, I'm talking geological terms, so I'm talking hundreds of millions of years.
02:33And what that tells you is that there's a really deep, um, structure that is controlling,
02:40bringing up the copper mineralization from basically the earth's mantle. Um, and so all those things just,
02:48just make it extremely intriguing to me. And I just, I just feel this, you know, there's something
02:53about this that is unusual and it's the unusual ones and the ones that break the rules that are
02:59the ones that, that gives you really good discovery. So that's why I'm intrigued by it.
03:04Well, thank you so much for these insights and there's a lot going on for you. We will definitely
03:09be keeping our ears peeled for more to come. So thank you for joining us. Come back soon.
03:13I would be happy to.
03:14Again, that was Leo Hathaway, geologist of Giant Mining. Now to learn more about them,
03:20their WIPES website is giantminingcorp.com. I'm Lindsay Melchick with Stockhouse Publishing.
03:26We'll see you next time.
