00:00Can you explain where you were born?
00:03Sure. Like I said, born in a refugee camp in Spital under Drow in Austria, that's southern Austria, in 1949.
00:12I was delivered in a tent by a Russian doctor who had agreed to let them have enough firewood that day to keep the tent warm.
00:23And my poor mother was suffering from typhoid fever at the time, and we both barely survived.
00:28There was a severe lack of nutritious food in that refugee camp, mainly because the guards and the people running the camp stole all the nutritious food and sold it.
00:41And my mother couldn't produce enough breast milk to feed me.
00:45She said all I did was cry.
00:48My parents immigrated to America when I was two months old.
00:51Once I got to America, and as I became Americanized, it didn't take long for the gap between my parents and me to grow to unmanageable proportions.
