00:00Who was your Uncle Aloys, and how does he play into your story?
00:05Uncle Aloys was my father's brother.
00:08The two of them miraculously survived the genocide in Slovenia
00:13and finally immigrated to America and Canada, respectively.
00:18My father came to America, my Uncle Aloys to Canada.
00:21Uncle Aloys, an underground freedom fighter and a very accomplished sniper during the war,
00:27is not only a man among men, and my hero, but a hero in the truest sense of the word.
00:34His adventures during and after the war are the stuff of legend,
00:38and pivotal in my upbringing, and also in the story 600 Devils.
00:44Without his exploits, I would not have been born.
00:47My five children and eighteen grandchildren would also not have been born.
00:51Uncle Aloys all along knew that I wasn't being nurtured like other American boys and girls.
00:57So he made it his personal mission to teach me things designed to give me an edge.
01:03He and his sidekick, Loft, who also immigrated to Canada,
01:08filled me in on the many hair-raising adventures that happened to them during the war.
01:13Some of his most significant exploits are described in 600 Devils.
