Apple Accused Of Lying In Court, Faces Possible Criminal Charges Over Epic Case

A federal judge held Apple in contempt Wednesday for violating a 2021 court order stemming from the Epic Games antitrust case. The judge accused the tech giant of deception and anticompetitive conduct, according to CNBC. Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers said Apple willfully ignored her ruling by imposing a 27% fee on web-linked app purchases, defying the court’s mandate that such transactions be commission-free. Judge Rogers wrote that Apple and its lawyers failed to correct what she now calls obvious lies, effectively adopting the false statements presented to the court. She referred the case to U.S. attorneys to consider criminal contempt charges against both Apple and executive Alex Roman.
