The prosecution has applied to initiate contempt of court proceedings against a woman accused of posting obscene images on her X account, after she allegedly claimed online that she had been fined despite not being convicted and sought donations to pay it.

00:00The prosecution has applied for contempt of court proceedings against a woman
00:05charged with transmitting obscene content by uploading explicit images to her ex-account.
00:11Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, MCMC,
00:14Deputy Public Prosecutor Fadli Abwahab made the application during the mention of the case
00:19involving 28-year-old Amira Nurafika Agus Salim
00:22before Sessions Court Judge Norma Ismail on Monday.
00:26Fadli told the court the prosecution was informed that on November 18th,
00:29the respondent uploaded content on X, discussing the ongoing case,
00:34and claiming she had been fined RM8,000 under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998,
00:40despite not having been convicted or sentenced.
00:43He said Amira also uploaded several posters seeking donations to pay the alleged fine,
00:47prompting the prosecution to seek contempt proceedings.
00:50Fadli added that on February 7th, 2023,
00:54the court issued an order prohibiting her from discussing or posting about her case
00:58on any social media platform until it is concluded.
01:02Earlier, lawyer Jacinta James informed the court she was withdrawing as Amira's counsel.
01:08The prosecution did not object.
01:10The court fixed January 8th, next year, for the next mention of the case.
01:14Amira pleaded not guilty to knowingly initiating the transmission of obscene images
01:18with the intention of annoying others through the Twitter account at AmiraNafk
01:22at 7.27 p.m. on September 19th, 2021.
01:26The content was later viewed at a premises in Sritiomarn 2, Jalan Malati, Kuala Lumpur
01:31at 7.58 p.m. the same day.
01:34She is charged under Section 233, Subsection 1, Subsection A
01:39of the Communications and Multimedia Act, 1998.

01:46a fine of up to 50,000 ringgit or both,
01:49with an additional 1,000 ringgit fine for each day,
