00:00Hello, my name is Amber Allitt and I'm a journalist specialising in education.
00:05At long last, the summer exam season is almost here, starting with GCSEs on the week of May 5.
00:12Before long, however, older students will be starting their A-level exams too.
00:17A-levels are a particularly important qualification, and the grades that students get in them can play a big part in securing university places or unlocking other opportunities after secondary school.
00:27Of course, it never hurts to be prepared, so here are some of the key dates students taking their A-levels will need to be aware of this year.
00:36The first is when A-level exams actually begin.
00:40This year, they will start the week of May 12 and will run until late June.
00:45There's then going to be a little bit of a wait until candidates will be able to find out how they did.
00:50This year, A-level results day will be on Thursday, August 14.
00:54Now, some students may not be happy with their results, or they might think that there has been a mistake with how they were marked.
01:01In that case, they might want to speak to their school or college about appealing their grade.
01:06The Joint Council for Qualifications says A-level candidates have 30 days after getting their results to submit an appeal for the marking of their work to be checked.
01:15Now, these can vary a little by exam board or what type of review you want, but this means that the deadline for appeals will be mid to late September for most students.
01:25Priority reviews are especially important for those who might have a university offer waiting, and these usually have a unique deadline which you'll need to take into consideration.
01:33For students taking their exams with AQA, for example, the deadline for a priority review this year will be August 21.
01:42One, two, one.
01:43What are their priorities?
01:49One, two, one.
01:55Next's theory, AQA.
