Brooki Bakehouse has been accused of plagiarising by RecipeTin Eats founder. But can you own a recipe?

A cookbook controversy has erupted between two popular bestselling Australian authors. Nagi Maehashi has accused Brooke Bellamy of plagiarising two of her recipes, but the claim has been rejected.

00:00Brooke Bellamy is a social media sensation.

00:05Last year, the Brookie Bakehouse owner launched her popular cookbook,

00:09but a firestorm of controversy has broken out in the kitchen.

00:13After best-selling cook Nagi Maharshi, founder of recipe Tin Eats,

00:18accused Miss Bellamy of copying her caramel slice and baklava recipes.

00:24Writing on social media,

00:26profiting from plagiarised recipes is unethical

00:30and it's a slap in the face to every author who puts in the hard work.

00:34Plagiarism is more of an ethical or a moral claim

00:38that sort of says, hey, you used something of mine

00:41or copied something of mine and you didn't acknowledge me.

00:44Brooke Bellamy has rejected the allegations,

00:47saying she has been creating her recipes since 2016.

00:52She's also offered to remove the two recipes from future reprints of her cookbook.

00:58The kitchen clash has sparked debate.

01:08that have been featured over and over again out there.

01:11For me, it's important to do something different.

01:13The idea of plagiarising a particular recipe just seems a bit ludicrous to me.
