00:00Meggo is here. Good morning. Hi, good morning. How are you guys? Late night last night. It was. We got that like 852 tip off. That was interesting.
00:09Yeah, but as expected, they advance and we were talking earlier about Jason Tatum and that performance from him last night.
00:21I think the best of this series. And I'm wondering if you look at what Orlando was able to do them defensively.
00:31Is there a concern that they expose the Celtics a little bit?
00:37I think that's like the natural inclination when you look at especially last night.
00:41They go a whole first half without making a three and they only attempt six threes in the first half.
00:47I mean, that's like unconscionable. If you saw that stat line alone without any context, you'd wonder, is the entire starting lineup out?
00:55How does this happen? Even with that, what about Peyton Pritchard and Sam Hauser?
00:59But I would say don't be concerned in the immediate future of the NBA playoffs because what Orlando was coming out of the regular season,
01:08the second best defensive rated team, what they have in terms of their physicality, in terms of their length,
01:14what they were able to do to move you off the three-point line, I don't think is going to be able to be replicable by any team
01:20except for one out West. And that's the Oklahoma City Thunder.
01:24So if you get back to the finals and Oklahoma City is there, then maybe it's time to revisit some of the tape from this series,
01:31which is a big silver lining because it gives you some instruction about, hey, you've seen that you can win other ways.
01:37It's a really ugly, grinded out way of winning.
01:40But maybe you learned some lessons from this.
01:43And the other thing about it is you'd have to be Detroit, New York, Cleveland.
01:48You'd have to be those guys that would want to play defense like that.
01:52The guys in Orlando, they all want to play deep.
01:56So there's a lot of energy that they're burning.
01:58So I don't think you're going to get that from guys like Jalen Brunson.
02:02I don't think you're going to get that from a guy like Kyle Anthony Towns or Cade Cunningham.
02:06So that's the difference is that Orlando takes pride in playing defense.
02:12And, you know, that's why there's not a lot of teams that really take pride in it, which is crazy in today's NBA.
02:19In the entire NBA.
02:20Because it's so much energy.
02:21Wouldn't you say, though, it's so much energy you're expended on both ends of the court?
02:24Yeah.
02:25I mean, some of it is by design and some of it is by necessity because, as we've all seen from that Orlando series,
02:32they had two guys who were really offensive weapons.
02:35And that's not to discredit the rest of them.
02:37It's just the reality of how they stack up against a lot of other teams in the NBA, including the Celtics.
02:42So they have the length, the build, and the know-how to be defensively elite.
02:47But that's also how they survived and advanced as far as they did.
02:50They're a good young team.
02:52Like you had to that team.
02:53They're a really, really good young team.
02:55Is the how long are you without Drew Holiday?
02:58Or what are you hearing about that?
03:01So Joe Missoula continues to say that he's day-to-day and he's doing what he can to get back to the court.
03:08I think, like, it's just one of those things where he's a 34-year-old.
03:13A hamstring can be, I'm sure, as you know, Wiggy, like a super naggy, unpredictable kind of injury.
03:20And so hopefully this little layoff that they get as the Pistons in New York continue to play each other gives you some time.
03:28They have the next couple of days off completely.
03:30So gives you some time before Friday, Saturday, get into the weekend to prepare for whatever that next series is.
03:36And he can be back.
03:37I never understand how basketball players get hamstring injuries.
03:40I feel like they're never running full speed.
03:42Yeah, but that's when you do it.
03:43Usually it's like a mid-speed that'll injure the hamstring.
03:47Usually when you see guys that blow the, you know, because a lot in football, it's a guy who's, like, got his foot on the gas doing 100 miles an hour.
03:54Drew's a sprinter, though.
03:55You know, I think about him chasing down.
03:58It happened to Shine when he saw a rare Pikachu.
04:01Well, he can't miss that.
04:03I was all over it.
04:05Does it feel like to you that they may have been playing down to Orlando?
04:08Like, the energy just didn't seem there, especially in the beginning of all the games.
04:12And will that change once you get a Knicks or Pistons?
04:15So, I feel no.
04:18No, because I know that they have been accused of that in past iterations of the Celtics led by Jalen Brown and Jason Tatum.
04:25But I don't think that was the case this series.
04:27I think you really do have to credit Orlando for having the length, having extremely active hands.
04:32I was going crazy in the first half last night watching the amount of turnovers that the Celtics were at times seemingly self-inflicting, but definitely feeling the pressure from Orlando.
04:43And Jalen, I think he spoke after the game.
04:46He said, like, he didn't feel good until the second half.
04:49If anything, like, I don't think that—
04:51Was it the knee?
04:52He said it was the knee, and it was a little bit of everything.
04:54Also, extremely, extremely active hands may have been Jordan's nickname in college.
04:59Oh, no!
05:00Do you have some info on her that we don't?
05:04What is your concern level for Bill?
05:07Just to go away from the Celtics for a moment.
05:09It's, like, not okay, guys.
05:10It's not okay.
05:11It's not okay.
05:12We need to see the unedited footage from CBS.
05:16Correct.
05:17It's now because he's employed by a public institution.
05:20I think it's now become, like, this should—this is a public concern.
05:25Yeah.
05:26And we need to see the unedited footage from CBS Sunday morning.
05:29And we need to see the video she has, the 35-minute video that she has.
05:31Wait, what is this?
05:32I didn't hear this.
05:33She took a screenshot of a video that she has a little over 35 minutes, and then playing over it was Taylor Swift, look what you made me do.
05:41It's like a hidden camera video.
05:42And she's delusional, the Lulu, as the kids say, if she thinks that somehow a video of her storming out of an interview with CBS is going to make her look in any way, shape, or form good.
05:57Maybe they said something really offensive.
05:58I don't know.
05:59It doesn't matter.
06:00No, I know.
06:00It's going to make her look bad because who just pulls the phone out of their pocket and then quietly videotapes the whole thing?
06:08That was, like, somebody's very insecure.
06:10Do you think that she leaked the ring camera footage back last year?
06:16Great question.
06:16Probably.
06:17Maybe she did.
06:18Great question.
06:19At her beach home or wherever it was?
06:21Yeah.
06:22She wanted to glow up.
06:23That is a great question.
06:24May go.
06:25Yes.
06:25Back to something.
06:26No, I was just going to ask her about your boy, P. Pritch.
06:30Do you think it was the defense that affected him?
06:34Because, obviously, poor Zingas was off from three-point land, but he still, you know, was able to get you some points in the paint where, like, P. Pritch is a guy that when he comes off that bench, you're looking for the spark.
06:48Do you think it was the defense or he just had, like, a bad series?
06:51I think it was the defense.
06:53We saw him able to do that immediately in game one.
06:57And then you got to see a little bit more of him last night when Paolo Banqueiro got his fifth foul and was out of the game.
07:03And they had to move into this double-big lineup for Orlando.
07:06And they weren't able to do the same switching defense that they like to do.
07:09Really opened things up for the Celtics, and that's why you saw the threes start to come about again.
07:15And even in doing that, then Pritchard is able to drive inside and either drive and kick or finish up at the rim.
07:23And that's just, I think it was just a bad matchup for him.
07:27And so when you take Paolo out and they're not able to do their long switching defense and move him off the perimeter, Peyton's able to be himself again.
07:34Again, I just don't think that a lot of other teams have the horses to be able to employ that again.
07:40So I don't think it's like Peyton Pritchard disappears for the rest of the playoffs.
07:43I think he's still going to have a lot of good games.
07:46You're going to need him.
07:47You're definitely going to need those others.
07:49Him, Porzingis, D. White.
07:53You know, you're going to need those guys to be able to, you know, help out if Tatum and Brown maybe have an off night.
08:00They basically played the same against the Knicks and Pistons during the regular season.
08:04Would you rather see one over the other?
08:06Yeah, I'd rather see the Knicks.
08:07Come on, like New York, Boston.
08:09There's so much more juice to that.
08:11Like all due respect to Cade Cunningham.
08:13It's a fun story watching him develop.
08:16But don't we all want New York, Boston?
08:18Yes.
08:19Like I think that that's just such a juicier matchup.
08:21There might be more excitement for that matchup than for the NBA Finals, depending who's there.
08:26Like these are two big basketball towns, basically neighbors to each other.
08:31Or you get Spike Lee out on the parquet yelling at everybody.
08:36Like I'm here for it.
08:37And the Celtics swept them in the season.
08:39Which is funny that it's like the bigger basketball rivalry is Celtics Pistons, though.
08:45So it's more just the New York, you know, and the whole, you know, what Boston and New York.
08:49We've always been looked at as they're like, you know, the little brother or the, you know, little stepbrother.
08:55We were saying, though, I don't even think that the Knicks can get it done tomorrow.
08:58Like I think the Pistons are going to win tomorrow.
09:00I think that you see the game go seven.
09:01Yeah, I think the Pistons, like they had to, obviously they had to win that game to extend the series.
09:06But also just the way that they kind of got punked at the end of the game before.
09:09So we'll see either way.
09:12Like I think that the Celtics have a big advantage because they had gotten so banged up in that Orlando series.
09:17So now having it push back to at least Sunday, if not maybe Monday, like gives them a nice little layoff.
09:24I think what's and you tell me, Mago, you know more because you've seen this.
09:29I almost feel like whoever they play Detroit or New York, the series is going to look easier for the Celtics than it did against New Orleans.
09:36I think your offense is going to look way more like itself.
09:40They averaged 31 three-point attempts across that Orlando five-game series.
09:46The least amount of attempts that they made of three-pointers in the regular season was 33 in one game.
09:51And that was against Orlando.
09:52So what you saw of this Boston team, like again, all credit to the Magic.
09:57That was really uncharacteristic of them.
09:59I think you'll see a lot more of the high-scoring, flashy five-out Celtics that we're used to in whatever the next series is.
10:07I don't know if you heard earlier, but Shime is on Team John Halliburton this morning and has been all morning.
10:13Oh, man.
10:15I did hear a little bit of that, Shime.
10:17Talk your talk.
10:19You're an athlete.
10:19How would you feel if somebody's mama came up in your face?
10:22I'd be like, who's old lady is this?
10:25Like what is going on here?
10:27Such a lame move.
10:29I'm not a huge Giannis fan because I think he can act a little goofy himself.
10:35But what we all got to remember is just if we've learned anything from the Mahomes experiences, you can't control your family.
10:42Giannis is gone, most likely, right?
10:44I think so.
10:45It's unfortunate because I would have liked to have that Milwaukee team be a little bit more of a big bad in the East for this version of the Celtics.
10:53And it sucks watching what happened to Dame Lillard over the last two seasons.
10:58But, yeah, I think they're pretty much done.
11:00The question is if Doc sticks it out there for the rest of his contract or if he's like, yeah, you know what?
11:06This Milwaukee mansion I'm living in is not enough for me.
11:10Well, at least they'll revitalize the Celtics-Laker rivalry when Giannis goes to L.A.
11:15Oh, you think?
11:16Did you get some intel from Curtis?
11:18Curtis is in here, so we have to have the argument for him.
11:21He texted me.
11:21He said, yeah, Giannis to the Lakers, silver, making it happen.
11:26Yeah, I don't see that happening.
11:28But Giannis to New York, that'd be interesting.
11:31Giannis to Boston?
11:32Giannis to Boston not having it.
11:33No.
11:34No.
11:34You keep bringing that up without sharing how it becomes possible.
11:38Who are you saying farewell to?
11:40And I think I asked Shyam this off the air.
11:43Well, that's Mago.
11:45They win a chip.
11:47Brown, Porzingis, white for Giannis.
11:52No.
11:53No.
11:54No.
11:54I mean, brown and white are so young still.
12:00Right?
12:01Pritch goes into your starting job.
12:02So you're keeping Drew Holiday in this scenario.
12:04Yes, keep Drew Holiday.
12:05Why?
12:05Because you missed him over these last three games.
12:07I like Drew Holiday.
12:08You're feeling a little warmer.
12:09I'm asking the question.
12:10Or towards Drew Holiday, absence makes the heart grow fonder.
12:12Yes, because he's a great defender.
12:14I'm just asking the question.
12:16I don't think you'd do it.
12:18I don't think you'd do it.
12:19If you can keep as much of this roster together as possible, why would you try to disrupt him?
12:23Can you imagine Giannis and Tatum, though?
12:25That pick and roll.
12:26You're always lulled into a trance by the shiny new object.
12:32That's a nice shiny object on Giannis.
12:34He don't shoot threes.
12:36So somebody you've got to worry about.
12:37Him and Tatum pick and roll.
12:40You know, you get Pete Pritch comes into a starter and then you can work pick and rolls with him.
12:47You can already work pick and rolls with everybody on this team.
12:50You don't need Giannis to do that.
12:51I just threw the question out there.
12:52Yeah.
12:53He's going to be looking for a landing spot.
12:54Well, it'd be great business for us.
12:56I'd love that.
12:57Giannis press conferences and everything.
12:59All right.
13:02Also, side note, how I saw on your social, you went to the movies.
13:08Thanks for following.
13:09Yes, we saw Sinners.
13:11Wait, he loved it.
13:12It was so awesome.
13:12Rich Keith loved it.
13:13Oscar nominated.
13:14It was so awesome.
13:15Was it really?
13:15Shime, have you seen it yet?
13:16I haven't seen it yet.
13:17Oh, my gosh.
13:18You and your draft stuff all weekend.
13:20You've got to make room for that.
13:21You loved it, though?
13:22It was really good.
13:23I would give it, like, a score out of 100.
13:26I would give it, like, a 93.
13:28Really?
13:28Yeah.
13:29That was Haley.
13:30She was good.
13:31She was so hot.
13:32She was really good.
13:34She was a little edgy.
13:35Yeah.
13:36I would not watch that movie with my mom.
13:38Okay.
13:39Okay.
13:39It's an adult's movie.
13:41If Michael B. Jordan isn't nominated for an Oscar, it will be an absolute shame.
13:48Here we go.
13:49Because he was so good in the movie.
13:52And Meggo said this off-air.
13:54He had to play Twins, so he had to, like...
13:58He had to Lindsay Lohan in.
13:59It was so...
14:00It was so...
14:00Yeah.
14:01And that's got to be a hard thing to do, like, in scenes where it looks like...
14:05But he was so good in the movie.
14:08It was that good?
14:09Yeah.
14:09I don't like horror movies.
14:10No, you'll like this.
14:11It's, like, a good time.
14:12Especially, Greg, because it's super music forward.
14:16Right.
14:16So, like, my husband isn't really into scary movies either, but he loves music.
14:21And it's all about, like, Mississippi Delta Blues in the 1930s.
14:26And a little bit of Irish folk music in there.
14:28Really?
14:29Because the villain is good.
14:30The, like, legend of Robert Johnson.
14:31That's who it is, right?
14:32Oh, that's old.
14:32Yeah.
14:32Who sells...
14:33The blues musician who makes a deal with the devil.
14:36The devil, yeah.
14:36Yeah.
14:37It's kind of like a play off of that.
14:38Crossroads.
14:38They went down to the crossroads.
14:40Exactly.
14:41I'm excited.
14:41So, it's, like, the whole first two-thirds of the movie is kind of just a story about,
14:46like, the blues in this town in Mississippi.
14:50And it's awesome.
14:51Do you have to see it in a theater?
14:53Yes.
14:54Yes?
14:54Yeah.
14:55I mean, you don't have to.
14:56I haven't been to the theater since they first introduced the talkies.
15:00Yeah.
15:00You don't have to.
15:01Several decades ago.
15:02It's not like a Marvel movie, Greg, so you don't have to.
15:04But it's interesting, because they not only introduced that element of it, but if you
15:08ever seen Dust of Dawn, they give you a little bit of that element, and they introduce a little
15:13bit of, like, the mob kind of storyline and a little mafia stuff.
15:18I liked Vampire Diaries, so I feel like I'll enjoy this.
15:22I would say this is probably, like, a rated X version of that.
15:25Perfect.
15:25Because it's also pretty saucy.
15:28Okay.
15:28Yeah.
15:28It is really good.
15:29Well, we will await the result.
15:31If there is a series-ending result tomorrow night, and we'll talk to you again next week.
15:38Hopefully New York.
15:39Okay.
15:40All right.
15:40See you.
15:40That is Meg O, our WEEI Celtics insider.
