00:01We talk a lot about what happens to us,
00:05what happens to all the trading partners of America.
00:10The question that should be asked is what happens to America?
00:14All the goods in America will go up in price,
00:18so they will suffer from high costs,
00:21and they will demand for higher pay,
00:24and they will be uncompetitive.
00:27This is what former Prime Minister Dr. Mahathir Mohamad has to say
00:31about the wide-ranging tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump's administration.
00:36He also said the U.S. relied heavily on the global supply chain,
00:40especially for microchips from countries such as Korea, Taiwan, and Malaysia,
00:45adding that the tariffs would raise production costs
00:47and make American goods more expensive.
00:50Last week, Mahathir said he expected the U.S. to pause its tariff policy
00:54in the next three months as the duties were damaging its own economy more than others.
00:59The U.S. has announced a 24% tariff on most Malaysian goods.
01:03Mahathir also criticized the American worldview,
01:06saying many in the U.S. regard their country as the world
01:09and remain largely ignorant about other nations.
01:12His comments follow anger in Malaysia over a putdown of China
01:15by conservative U.S. commentator Bill O'Reilly,
01:18who said Malaysians have no money to buy Chinese products.
01:22I do not care about what the Americans say.
01:26Generally, even the president of America knows nothing about the rest of the world.
01:35That's why he's quarreling with the whole world.
