00:00This video is part of a Google Form quiz that teachers can assign to their students for homework.
00:06After the students submit their answers, then they can play a video like this one to see the
00:10answer explained. We've made more than 100 quizzes as Google Forms with free access videos,
00:17which teachers are welcome to copy for free. To get access to these, please see the link
00:22in the description. If you've not already done so, we suggest that you watch the video for
00:27question 6 before watching this video. This video is based on a question from an actual state exam.
00:34You may have one like this on your state exam. The text in tab A and tab B are the same as for
00:40questions 5 and 6. Please pause the video if you wish to read that information. Use the information
00:46in figure 1, tab A, and figure 2, tab B to explain why some finches had a disadvantage compared to
00:54other finches during a dry year. Drag the words into the boxes. Before we answer this question,
01:00we'll quickly rewrite the summary diagram, which we made in question 6. We made this summary diagram
01:06since it helps us keep track of a lot of information in the text and figures, and know
01:10how that information is related. Now we can return to the question. During a dry year there are only
01:16large hard seeds to eat. We can see that because the purple box represents dry years, and the only
01:22seed type in the purple box are the large hard seeds. We originally found this fact in the text
01:28for Figure 2 which states, In dry conditions, only large hard seeds were available. Finches with
01:34shallower beaks are less likely to survive, because they cannot eat these seeds. Our summary diagram shows
01:41that all the boxes that contain large hard seeds only contain deeper beak items, and not shallower beak
01:48items. The text above Figure 2 states that finches with shallow beaks could eat only small seeds.
01:54That means that during the dry years, when there were only large hard seeds available,
01:59finches with shallower beaks may have had nothing to eat and died of starvation.
02:04That means they were less likely to survive. Thanks for your attention.
