00:02About Taylor Swift's Stalker Revealed
00:05The pop superstar was the target of Eric Swarbrick's violent obsession.
00:12As one of the world's most famous human beings,
00:14Taylor Swift has had to deal with plenty of negative,
00:17and sometimes even dangerous, attention in addition to all the acclaim.
00:22In the newest episode of Investigation Discovery's Hollywood Demons docuseries,
00:26titled Stalking the Stars, the brother of Swift's convicted stalker, Eric Swarbrick,
00:33opened up about his siblings' crimes and subsequent arrest.
00:37My brother believed Taylor Swift was his soulmate, and it got out of hand.
00:41He wrote 40 letters to Taylor Swift back in 2018,
00:45Matthew Swarbrick recalled, per Entertainment Weekly.
00:48The first one is not threatening, just strange.
00:52It wasn't long before Eric's letters took a turn, however.
00:57Just a few months later, one of them references,
01:00I'll have one goal in mind,
01:02to push Taylor to kill herself for knowingly abandoning me to my mother, Matthew said.
01:08While Eric was popular in high school, according to Matthew,
01:12he didn't know a lot of people when he went to college.
01:15He didn't know a lot of people.
01:18I feel like he started spending more time by himself.
01:20Some of the isolation eventually got to him, Matthew speculated.
01:26After graduating, Eric sent a series of tweets about a soulmate.
01:31They did not reference anybody in particular,
01:34but it was not something that a normal person would write, Matthew said.
01:38It basically referenced being a prophet of God,
01:41being on the verge of becoming the Antichrist.
01:43I remember feeling very desperate because we knew he needed help
01:47and we had absolutely no idea what we could do.
01:51Eric started sending letters to Scott Borchetta,
01:54CEO of Swift's record label at the time, Big Machine,
01:58begging for an introduction to the singer.
02:01Soon after, the letters took a violent tone.
02:04I will not hesitate to kill her,
02:06and there's nothing you, your lawyers, or the law will be about to do about it.
02:10Remember who I am, Eric wrote.
02:13In another letter, he threatened to sexually assault Swift, writing,
02:17This is why I hate Taylor herself.
02:20This is how I know I am Taylor's soulmate.
02:23Eric eventually started bringing his letters to the Big Machine offices personally,
02:28which led to his 2018 arrest.
02:31Though he was initially released,
02:32he was arrested again after sending more letters
02:35and charged with interstate stalking
02:37and sending interstate communications with intent to threaten.
02:42In 2019, Eric pleaded guilty to the charges
02:46and went on to be sentenced to 30 months in prison
02:48and three additional years of supervised release by a federal judge.
02:53It was sad.
02:54It was depressing.
02:56Matthew said of his brother's ordeal,
02:58There are some people that need punishment
03:00and some people that need treatment.
03:02I certainly wish he was taken to a mental health hospital earlier than they did.
03:07Since being released from prison, however,
03:10Eric began seeing a psychiatrist
03:12and slowly he was starting to become his old self in a lot of ways.
03:16Matthew continued,
03:17adding that his brother is a playful and interactive uncle to his children.
03:22Unfortunately, Swift has been targeted by other stalkers throughout her career.
03:27Just last year, German police detained a U.S. man
03:31suspected of making threats against Swift and Travis Kelsey on social media
03:35as he attempted to attend the Eras Tour concert in Gelsenkricken, USA Today reported.
03:42Stalking the Stars is scheduled to premiere on Monday, April 28th on ID.
